Paleontological remains, especially bones of the cave bear, were also found inside. An audio guide will take you through the cave, which takes about 30 minutes to explore.

The symbol of the city is the white tower from the 15th century. An interesting building is also the rotunda or the Roman forum from the 3rd century. Excursion boats depart from various ports. A pleasant all-day experience is a boat trip to the southern side of Sithonia with a stop for swimming and snorkeling. It is organized by the local company Trip Adventure. The boat departs at 9:30 from Paliouri beach and returns at 5 p.m.
You will enjoy the cruise and you will not be bored for a moment. You can jump from the boat into the water, feed the seagulls or just calmly enjoy the views of the Greek coast. One of the stops on this trip is the beautiful Toroni beach, where you can visit local taverns, cafes or shops in addition to swimming in the clear water. The cruise continues through the beautiful Porto Koufo lagoon to Turtle Island, where the boat anchors again for swimming. The price includes a snack – a drink and a sandwich. Tirana Airport is easy to navigate. Pick up your suitcase (if you're not traveling with a backpack) and buy a local SIM card in the hall or use an e-SIM (Albania is not a member of the European Union).
Pick up your rental car outside the terminal. In Albania, you can park for free anywhere that is not private property or a paid parking lot. Albanians sometimes park in the roundabout, but you better not do that. Don't be alarmed - their way of driving is peculiar, but you'll get used to it soon. They often honk just to draw attention to themselves and overtake even in places where you probably wouldn't try. Gas stations are everywhere in Albania. A calmer drive awaits you in Greece. But be careful there to always have a full tank. It can happen that you won't find a gas station for several tens of kilometers on the highway.
Currency: The official currency in Albania is the lek. You can also pay in euros (they will usually give you change in the local currency) and prices are often quoted in euros. There is an exchange office at the airport or in the city. As long as you don't exchange money on the street, you're safe. But it is necessary to carry cash - in euros or local currency. With a length of 1.2 kilometers, you will experience adrenaline near the village of Petrele. You can get here from Tirana in less than 30 minutes. It is open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. No need to book. So pluck up your courage and slide down the hill. Believe me, it will be one of the greatest experiences of your life. You don't have to be afraid at all, safety is taken care of.
And we continue. The town of Pogradec is an ideal stop on the route, you'll get there in two hours. It lies directly on the shore of Lake Ohrid, which is not only clean and transparent, but is also one of the deepest in Europe. Look forward to beautiful views along the way. You'll start your journey in the capital of Albania - Tirana. You will discover the vibrant metropolis, its sights, and soak up the Albanian atmosphere.
Tirana Airport is easy to navigate. Pick up your suitcase (if you're not traveling with a backpack) and buy a local SIM card in the hall or use an e-SIM (Albania is not a member of the European Union).
Pick up your rental car outside the terminal. In Albania, you can park for free anywhere that is not private property or a paid parking lot. Albanians sometimes park in the roundabout, but you better not do that. Don't be alarmed - their way of driving is peculiar, but you'll get used to it soon. They often honk just to draw attention to themselves and overtake even in places where you probably wouldn't try. Gas stations are everywhere in Albania. A calmer drive awaits you in Greece. But be careful there to always have a full tank. It can happen that you won't find a gas station for several tens of kilometers on the highway.
Currency: The official currency in Albania is the lek. You can also pay in euros (they will usually give you change in the local currency) and prices are often quoted in euros. Head to the city of Durres, where people go not only for the kilometers-long sandy beach, promenade, but also for history and gastronomy. Once you arrive in the center of Durres, take a tour that starts at Illyria Square, the heart of Durrës. Here stands the town hall, an elegant clock tower, and a large mosque.
Just a short distance from the square, you'll discover an impressive Roman amphitheater – the largest and oldest of its kind in the Balkans. This nearly 3000-year-old colossus is clearly visible from the street, but it's worth going inside. Imagine the crowds that once watched stories of courage, entertainment, and human emotion here. Today, although grass covers the stone benches, the atmosphere of the place is still strong. (Tickets can be purchased in cash at the entrance; it's open from May to October daily from 9 AM to 8 PM, and until 4 PM in winter.) As you walk, you'll come across narrow streets adorned with murals that give the city a playful face.
You only walk a few tens of meters from the amphitheater and you will find yourself on the Vollga city promenade. It is a large, lively area by the sea, lined with bars and restaurants. The village was once an important cultural center of the Balkans - and today you will find remnants of glory in the form of stone churches with frescoes, monasteries and quiet streets. It is open in the summer season daily except Mondays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., in winter daily except Mondays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Park in front of the cave and enter the depths of the underground. Inside the cave you will see impressive stalactites and underground lakes. The largest room in the cave measures 45 x 17 meters. Inside, the temperature is constant at 16 - 18 degrees Celsius throughout the year, so pack a light sweater or sweatshirt. The Dragon Cave dates back 6 million years, but was only discovered in the 20th century. It opened to the public in 2009. Paleontological remains, especially bones of the cave bear, were also found inside. An audio guide will take you through the cave, which takes about 30 minutes to explore.
Greece is not just about the sea. Today you will set off to cool down in the mountains, discover a monastery hidden in the rock, or a waterfall with a crystal-clear pool.
In two and a half hours, you'll arrive from Posidi to the town of Litochoro. It's a great place from which to explore the legendary Mount Olympus, which, according to mythology, became the seat of the most important Greek gods. Litochoro has a calm and pleasant atmosphere. On the main street of Agiou Nikolaou or in the central square, you will find many cafes and restaurants. The city also has a rich maritime tradition, which is summarized by the Maritime Museum full of ship models, old compasses, or chronicles of local sailors. It is open from Friday to Sunday.
Litochoro is literally captured by the mountains. The mountain range has more than 50 peaks, the highest of which is Mytikas with a height of 2918 meters. You won't conquer the summit during your one-day visit, but you'll still enjoy the mountains. From Litochoro, you can drive to the Old Holy Monastery of Saint Dionysios of Olympus. This historic Orthodox monastery from 1542 is located in the Enipeas gorge at an altitude of 850 meters. During various wars and conflicts, it served as a refuge for locals and soldiers, and it was destroyed several times over the years. Many of its buildings have been restored, and the original stone and wooden structure has been preserved. You can take a look inside the decorated chapel. Admission is free. The monastery is open daily from sunrise to sunset. You can also explore the nearby cave - follow the sign.
From the monastery to the Enipeas waterfall, you can continue on foot along the path or drive up the winding road a little further – to the parking lot below the waterfall (parking is free). From here, you only have to walk a few tens of meters to reach the waterfall. Although its clarity is tempting for refreshment, swimming is prohibited here. Once you've admired and photographed it enough, head back. You'll be driving back down to the town - on winding roads with beautiful views. Below you, you will see not only Litochoro, but also a part of the coast.
