Rome is a city full of history and beauty, one of the most fascinating places in the world. I was lucky enough to spend almost a year there, which gave me the opportunity to explore not only the famous monuments, but also the hidden corners where you can feel the true Roman atmosphere. In this itinerary, I will take you to the most famous places, but also show you some that are not so much visited by tourists, so you can get to know Rome as it really is. During my stay I discovered many great restaurants and cafes. Each day in the itinerary is designed to give you a taste of the best local specialties.

Day 1
Arrival in Rome

On the first day you will transfer to your accommodation. From the airport, take the train to Termini Central Station and from there take the metro to your apartment. I've added some great places to go and if you still have energy, I offer two options to end the day. You can go out to a viewpoint with a great view of the whole city, or take a walk in one of Rome's beautiful parks. The choice is yours.
Where to eat ?
There are plenty of great restaurants in Rome where you can enjoy delicious Italian food. The Trastevere district in particular is a popular destination for dinner, where you will almost never come across a bad restaurant. After a delicious meal, you can wander its narrow streets and admire the unique charm of what is arguably the most beautiful area of Rome. If you're looking for a student atmosphere and more affordable meals, head to the Pigneto district. This lively neighbourhood is full of student spirit and an aperitivo is a staple of the day here.

Day 2
Rome full of history

1/11
11 places
8.33 km(1 h 55 min)

Start your day at the Vatican - a place that will immediately immerse you in the atmosphere of Rome.

First stop is St. Peter's Basilica. It's definitely worth seeing it from the inside, but bear in mind that you'll need to cover your shoulders and wear a skirt or trousers at least to your knees. Once you've explored the basilica, walk around the entire square, take a photo by the obelisk and enjoy the view of the fountains.

Then head to Castel Sant'Angelo for a spectacular view of the Vatican and the city. The entrance is up to you, but if you like panoramas, it's definitely worth it. After the tour, cross the Ponte Sant'Angelo bridge and slowly head to Piazza Navona - one of the most beautiful squares in Rome. Just take a moment to stop, soak up the atmosphere and walk around.

If you're craving something sweet, a short walk away you'll find a place where they have the famous tiramisù. From here, continue to the Pantheon, where it's always best to book tickets in advance to avoid the big queues. If you get hungry, the famous All'Antico Vinaio panini place is just a short walk away. A few steps from the Pantheon is one of the most beautiful churches in Rome, the Chiesa di Sant'Ignazio di Loyola. Its ceiling is literally a work of art that you cannot miss.

Then head to the Trevi Fountain. Don't forget to toss a coin into the water and make a wish, but most importantly, go to L'Antico Forno di Piazza Trevi cafe. Their pistachio cornetto is a once-in-a-lifetime treat!

Finish the day in Piazza di Spagna and Piazza del Popolo. At the Spanish Steps, sit back, relax and enjoy this beautiful view of the city.

Ancient Rome and its charm

3.5 km(53 min)

Start your third day at the impressive Colosseum. Walk around it and soak up its unique atmosphere. Just a few steps away, continue through the Forum Romanum.

Continue on until the beautiful Monument to Victor Emmanuel II appears before you. Entry is free, but if you'd like to go up to the rooftop, where you can get a great view of the whole city, expect to pay around €7. After the tour, be sure to stop by the statue of the she-wolf with Romulus and Remus, and then head to the church of Santa Maria in Aracoeli, which is right next door.

After you've enjoyed all this, you'll want to take a stroll to the Giardino degli Aranci. This place has incredible charm, especially at sunset, so definitely take a moment to relax here. At the end of the day, head to the charming Trastevere district. Stroll through the narrow charming streets, discover the local restaurants and end your day with a great dinner in this unique atmosphere.
