Start your Catalan adventure at a relaxed pace! After arriving in Barcelona and picking up your car, there's no long, exhausting journey ahead. Your home base is in the city of Vic. This gives you a fantastic opportunity to turn the drive itself into a deep experience and catch your breath after your flight. If you have the time, veer off the main route and make a stop at the magical Pantà de Sau reservoir. Once you arrive at your home for the next few days in the historic town of Vic, take it easy and unpack, because from now on, you can forget about moving your suitcases every day.
Day 2
Swap the historical city of Vic for the fresh mountain air of the Pyrenees. Drive to the stone village of Queralbs, the gateway to the stunning high-altitude Vall de Núria valley (1,961 m above sea level). Experience a ride on the famous Cremallera rack railway, which will take you through rocky gorges and past waterfalls into a valley where no roads lead. Enjoy the peace by the crystal-clear lake, take a walk, and soak in the mountain energy. You will head back to Queralbs on foot along a beautiful historic trail. A safe but breathtaking descent through wild nature along a babbling stream awaits you. Craving a change? Choose an adrenaline-filled or a more relaxed hiking alternative.
Day 3
In the Garrotxa region, you'll find the perfect balance between the silence of an ancient forest, the raw energy of extinct volcanoes, and a visit to an exceptional place with deep significance. First, you'll head out to admire the exposed cross-section of the Croscat volcano, which reveals the fascinating colorful layers of the earth's interior. Then, you'll dive into the silence of the La Fageda d'en Jordà beech forest. Its existence is a total natural miracle—it grows on a rolling lava flow left behind thousands of years ago by the Croscat volcano. Here, you can spot the so-called tossols, which are unique formations created thousands of years ago during a volcanic eruption. Afterward, you'll visit the La Fageda farm, where the most honest local products are made from pure ingredients. Finally, you'll descend directly into the crater of the Santa Margarida volcano, in the very center of which a mysterious stone chapel is hidden. And now for the best part! You'll head down into the silence of the forest to reach natural pools and waterfalls.
