You tread carefully along the slippery path, but it's worth it - your heart beats to the rhythm of nature as your camera captures every moment of this magnificent scenery. How could it be more beautiful? And yet it can! Skogafoss offers you an even more powerful experience - when the light is right, two rainbows appear above the water mist, like something out of a fairy tale. And did you know that Skogafoss was a frequent location for film shoots?

Your next stop is the picturesque village of Vík, which rises above the Mýrdalsjökull glacier, near the Katla volcano. This charming destination is your destination today! Enjoy a stroll along the black beach where you can soak up the quiet atmosphere and listen to the sounds of the waves that will take you to another world altogether.

One of the most stunning beaches in the world is at your fingertips, ready to amaze you with its beauty. Hop in your rental car and embark on a journey that will take you to Reynisfjara Beach! In a few minutes, the road below you will turn into a black strip, and then you'll see it - black sand, majestic rocks and waves crashing wildly against the shore. The power of nature literally stuns you - an experience so powerful it sends shivers down your spine. But beware, unexpected waves can be dangerous! Iceland's volcanic history has left its mark here: in Hálsanefshellir Cave, black basalt columns rise up to 15 metres above the ground - the perfect spot for romantic photographs. Your next destination is already looming in the distance: the Dyrhólaey Peninsula. Walk along the steep cliffs and, if you're lucky, you'll catch a glimpse of the cute puffins that sometimes nest here.

And don't forget the mysterious plane wreck at Sólheimasandur! Leave your car in the car park and take a quiet walk through the deserted landscape. A fresh breeze, black stones, mountains in the distance and the sea - and then, as if from another world, an abandoned plane wreck appears before you, stunning you with its strange beauty.

Contradictory things attract - and maybe they attract you too? In Skaftafell National Park, you'll experience Iceland's contrasts in a particularly compelling way. An extensive network of hiking trails stretches between the lava plains and the numerous rivers that spring from the glacial outwash of Skeidarárjökull, Morsárjökull and Skaftafellsjökull. Your destination is Svartifoss! The black waterfall does justice to its name: from dark, snow-covered basalt columns, the water rushes into the depths. Before you get too chilled - stiff with admiration - you set off again. At the glacial lagoon of Jökulsárlón, which stretches icily into the distance, all is quiet. The view into the distance leaves you in disbelief: diamonds washed up on the black sandy beach - welcome to Diamond Beach! A closer look reveals that shimmering chunks of ice lie scattered everywhere.

The imposing Vestrahorn on the Stokksnes peninsula towers high above, waiting for you to capture it with your lens. (Note: Admission is payable locally!) As the tide comes in, this majestic mountain is reflected in the calm surface of the lagoon. Your cameras will fill up with photos as if by themselves, because the Vestrahorn is truly perfect for every photo!

We continue east towards the fjords. The best part is that the Ringstrasse takes you to places with spectacular views, steep mountain peaks and fascinating rock formations that are also right by the sea. Along the way, you'll come across sheep grazing in the pastures, while herds of reindeer can be seen in the distance walking along the mountain slopes. At the heart of this unspoilt Icelandic landscape is you and your hire car, giving you the freedom to explore. The photo stops are constantly changing and the beautiful panoramas take your breath away. Take a break in the fishing village of Djúpivogur, stroll past picturesque houses and enjoy the fresh sea air. As you drive further north, nature becomes wilder and more solitary.

Today, Iceland's natural wonders await you! A walk along the bottom of the famous Diamond Circle will reveal more natural wonders. First, you will be amazed by Dettifoss, a waterfall that surpasses all expectations: a massive wall of water falls from a basalt cliff more than 100 metres high. The mist that rolls off the waterfall will make it almost impossible to speak of the power of nature around you. Dettifoss is rightly considered the largest waterfall in Europe. After a while, you'll find yourself in a world of hot water - on the crest of Námafjallu, you'll be immersed in a wondrous world of bubbling mud lakes and steam rising from the ground. Your feet are just a stone's throw from the hot rocks, all in the volcanic region of Krafla. But be very careful here and only follow the hiking trails! At Lake Myvatn you will be greeted by blooming nature. The best view of the fertile wetlands is from the rim of the volcanic crater Hrvafjall. Finally, Godafoss, the waterfall of the gods, awaits you!

Akureyri walk or whale watching in Húsavík?
You might opt for a morning wander around Akureyri when the sun is just starting to rise. The cool morning air carries the smell of freshly baked rolls and coffee, beckoning you into one of the small cafes. Akureyri is located in the middle of Iceland's largest fjord, Eyjafjördur, which is 60 kilometres long and 24 kilometres wide. This fjord definitely deserves your attention! You can take a walk along its shores or enjoy a drive and enjoy the view of the dark blue sea surrounded by impressive mountains. And if you're lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of the underwater springs called "white smokers", which spew hot water up to 45 metres high! And if you're patient and lucky enough, you might get to see a whale raise its head as you watch the sea! Húsavík, Europe's whale-watching capital, is just a short drive from Akureyri. If you want to get really up close and personal with these giants of the sea, head to this picturesque harbour town for an unforgettable whale watching cruise (extra cost).

Get up, get in your car and explore the west coast of Iceland! You'll leave Akureyri and a few moments later find yourself in the Öxnadalur valley, surrounded by rugged mountains. Now you know that your journey is the real destination! Cars are rare here, so you feel that time has stopped. You can catch a glimpse of wild horses galloping through the endless pastures. In fact, your journey will take you through Skagafjördur, one of the most famous horse breeding sites in Iceland. The solitude and tranquillity here are incredibly beautiful.

Add to that the extinct Grábrók volcano, which invites you to its crater rim and shows you how lava flowed through the valley more than 10,000 years ago - this force of nature will amaze you! If you like Iceland, don't miss the detour to Hraunfossar and Barnafoss waterfalls. Hraunfossar consists of many small waterfalls that flow into the river through a lava field, while Barnafoss falls through cascades into a narrow gorge.

The first rays of the sun accompany you on your journey to the Snæfellsnes peninsula, which is full of natural wonders. Steep cliffs, deep volcanic craters, dramatic waterfalls and even cute seals await you. At your first stop on Ytri-Tunga Beach, you'll be greeted by just that. A little to the west, you can see Bjarnarfoss waterfall, which plunges 80 metres into the depths, surrounded by moss-covered lava fields. From here, continue on to the lonely Búdakirkja, a black church in Búdir that stands as if painted in a barren landscape.

Back behind the wheel, you'll have plenty more opportunities to admire - you'll pass through the narrow Raudfeldsgjá gorge, where you'll come across a stone bridge amid rugged rocks. On Djúpalónssandur beach, made up of black sand and the remains of an old shipwreck, you'll feel like you've entered another world. Then there are steps leading to the top of Saxholl Crater, where you can see the majestic volcanic glacier Snæfellsjökull, which proudly dominates the peninsula. And for fans of Game of Thrones, a stop at Kirkjufell is a must, as it is behind it that the famous "Arrowhead Mountain" and the enchanting Kirkjufellsfoss waterfall are located.

Are you ready for the last part of your journey? Head quickly towards Reykjavik for one last taste of the tranquillity and beauty of Iceland's unspoilt nature. First stop: Akranes. This harbour town will charm you with its picturesque old wooden houses. After a rest and a hot drink, you'll get back on the road and head to the capital, where comfortable accommodation awaits.

In Reykjavik, you have your own adventure on your agenda. To see the city from above, head to the observation deck of Hallgrímskirkja Church and enjoy panoramic views that are reminiscent of scenes from "Lord of the Rings". If you prefer to walk on land, take a stroll around the harbour and admire the modern architecture of the Harpa Concert Hall and other unique buildings. If you're drawn to learning about Iceland's history and nature, be sure to visit the "Perlan" museum, where you can not only admire interactive displays about the country, but also visit an ice cave and watch a breathtaking aurora borealis show in the planetarium (admission is on site).
