Like the Czech Republic, Latvia spent many centuries under the influence of other powers, primarily Russia and later the Soviet Union. The influence of socialism is still noticeable in the country today, though fortunately only marginally, and Riga will convince you of this at every step. Whether you choose a boat trip on the Riga canal, a stroll through the old town, or go shopping, Riga will captivate you everywhere with its peaceful atmosphere. The second day will be dedicated to exploring Riga's historic center and the best things it has to offer for free. Immerse yourself in the bustle of Europe's largest market located in former zeppelin hangars, take a leisurely stroll along the Riga Canal and through local parks, and expand your knowledge of Latvian history at the War Museum. Along the way, you'll also come across countless restaurants where you can stop for a traditional lunch. Latvian cuisine is not so different from ours or Polish; potatoes, ground meat, and vegetables play the main roles, and definitely don't miss the traditional pierogi. If you're looking for a cheaper lunch, look for Lido bistros.

If you love castles and regional train trips that don't take hours, you'll definitely enjoy a trip to the nearby town of Sigulda. Since the town is located in a National Park, nature lovers will also get their money's worth - the train ride goes through the beautiful Latvian countryside, and if you time it right, you'll be able to admire carpets of blooming heather. You will visit both the New and Old castles, take a stroll through the peaceful town, and check out the views of the surrounding landscape.
