As usual we went to the Alps for a dip. Yeah, the heights, we can do that 😍
We chose Intersport Klettersteig as our first choice. It's a pretty famous ferrata, but the ladder is so unique that you just have to try it.
The ferrata is difficulty C/D, so nothing for beginners. The ascent will take you about half an hour if you use the cable car. We used that on the way up. The ferrata has an elevation gain of 470 metres. We took the following time:
Parking > cable car > boarding: 30 minutes
Ferrata: 2 hours, 40 minutes
Descent to the bottom, without cable car: 2 hours, 30 minutes
Total time: 5 hours, 40 minutes
On the second day we wanted to take it up a notch and do a difficult ferrata on Dachstein - Johann. Unfortunately we missed the ascent and after some time of wandering we arrived at the bottom of the Anna ferrata, which Johann follows. So we went for Anna instead of Johann.
Anna is difficulty D and is 380 metres long. If you don't wander around like we did, the climb should take you 45 minutes. It took us this long:
Parking lot > boarding: 2 hours, 30 minutes
Ferrata: 2 hours
Return to car park: 1 hour, 30 minutes
Total time: 6 hours 🏆
And at the end we had a URBEX experience, in the form of a giant abandoned sanatorium. From googling, it looked like the sanatorium was easily accessible. The opposite was true. What awaited us was probably the most extreme access we've experienced. The building is divided into the main building and the pool. The pool would still go. But the main building... well... look it up. A little hint: very high up 😀
Anyway, a great experience. These giant buildings have their own charm. The fear in the underground when you enter the door with the sign "DEAD INSIDE, DON'T OPEN" is priceless 😈
