Your Long Weekend in Budapest
Day 1–3 / 4
1

Day 1
Arrive and dive into the nightlife

2 places
2.18 km(30 min)

After arriving at the airport, it's best to get a 72-hour Öffiticket right away, either in the BudapestGo app or at the nearest counter. This allows you to travel freely for three days using the metro, trams, and buses. Alternatively, a Bolt ride will take you comfortably directly to your hotel or Airbnb. After checking in, you can start your first little exploration tour: Deák Ferenc Tér is the heart of Pest. Here you will find the Budapest Eye, numerous cafes, and a great starting point to get to know the city. From there, you can stroll along the famous Váci utca, Budapest's promenade, lined with shops, street artists, and small restaurants.

In the evening, one of the highlights of Budapest's culinary scene awaits: Mazel Tov, a stylish restaurant in the Jewish Quarter with oriental cuisine and an impressive ambience. Afterwards, it's off to Budapest's famous nightlife. A must-see is the Szimpla Kert, the world's most famous ruin bar, a crazy labyrinth of old furniture, fairy lights, and creative installations. If you still haven't had enough, continue to Gozsdu Udvar, a courtyard full of bars and restaurants, perfect for bar hopping and soaking up the city's special atmosphere.

2

Day 2
History, Culture & Wellness

3 places
13 km(3 h 00 min)

Saturday starts with a real highlight: breakfast at the New York Café, considered the "most beautiful café in the world". Stucco-decorated ceilings, golden ornaments, and large chandeliers make this place unique. Afterwards, it's off to the Buda side of the city. Here stands the majestic Buda Castle, the historical center of Buda and today home to important museums. Right next to it is Matthias Church, one of the most beautiful churches in Hungary, where Hungarian kings were once crowned. The path leads you further to Fisherman's Bastion, one of the most famous viewpoints in the city – from here you have a fantastic view of the Danube and the Parliament building.

For lunch, it's off to the Stand25 Bistro, where Hungarian classics are given a modern interpretation. Afterwards, a detour to the Great Market Hall (Nagyvásárcsarnok) is worthwhile. Here you can buy paprika in all variations, try Hungarian wine, or treat yourself to a fresh lángos. Next, it's on to Gellért Hill, where the Citadel stands. The climb is rewarded with one of the most beautiful panoramic views of Budapest – perfect for photos.

In the late afternoon, it's time to relax: The Széchenyi Thermal Baths are one of the largest and most famous thermal baths in Europe. It's especially magical when you're sitting in the warm outdoor pools as the sun sets and the steam hangs in the air. To conclude the day, dinner awaits at the Red Pepper Étterem, before you end the day with a drink at a rooftop bar like the 360 Bar or the High Note SkyBar, overlooking the city's sea of lights.

3

Day 3
Culture, green oases & Danube magic

2 places
9.45 km(2 h 11 min)

Sunday starts leisurely at the traditional Gerbeaud Café, known for its fine cakes. Afterwards, a visit to the Hungarian Parliament Building is on the agenda. This neo-Gothic masterpiece is one of the largest parliament buildings in the world and a landmark of Budapest. Particularly impressive is the dome hall, where the Holy Crown of Hungary is on display. You should definitely book tickets online in advance.

Then it's time for nature: On Margaret Island, a green oasis in the middle of the Danube, you can rent a bike and leisurely cycle through parks and rose gardens. The Kiosk Budapest, a modern restaurant directly on the Danube, is a good option for lunch. In the afternoon, immerse yourself in the city's alternative scene: A street art tour in the Jewish Quarter will show you huge murals, hidden graffiti, and tell stories from the creative subculture.

The crowning finale of your stay is a Danube cruise in the evening. When the Chain Bridge, the Parliament, and the Castle are illuminated, Budapest looks like something out of a fairy tale. Afterwards, you can spontaneously choose a restaurant on the Danube or let the city carry you away.
