Are you looking for exotic but don't dare to go all alone? Then go to Sri Lanka (almost) on your own. You can enjoy accommodation in a villa with a pool right on the beach and excursions around the area in a small group of up to 6 people. You will get to know this exotic country with its beautiful nature, endless beaches and ever-smiling people, all with my Czech online support.
Accommodation right on the beach
You will be staying at the Tropical Garden holiday homes, which are owned by my family and where we go every year as a "cottage". The houses are right on the beach in a large garden with a pool. You'll stay in double rooms, each with a private bathroom and a balcony overlooking the ocean. It is therefore ideal if you sign up for the tour as a couple.
How it works
This trip is a cross between an organised tour and a holiday on your own. Worldee will arrange the flights for you and I, as your "travel buddy from afar", will help and advise on everything you need before and during the trip. Although I won't travel directly with you, I will be available for regular evening online calls and anytime on WhatsApp. There will be several trips together, which will be pre-arranged and you will take them in a van with a verified English-speaking driver. About half of the days are without a pre-planned programme, so you can spend them as you choose. Each evening I will be available for a joint online meeting where you can ask me anything you need, we will discuss the next day's programme and, if you wish, I can help you arrange excursions for the days not included in the itinerary.

You will explore the beautiful southern coast of Sri Lanka, which is rightly said to be home to some of the best beaches on the island. You'll marvel at the amazing wildlife, go on an elephant-watching safari in Udawalawe National Park, walk amongst tea plantations and see iconic viewpoints. You won't miss the sights, visiting Buddhist temples and the historic city of Galle. And the rest of the time you'll relax or explore the area on your own, perhaps on a bike or scooter, as you wish.
How about food
Sri Lankan cuisine is full of flavours and aromas, and you can enjoy fresh fish and seafood, fresh tropical fruits and local specialities like rice and curry and kottu rotti. If you like to cook, you can take advantage of our fully equipped kitchen, you can find local fresh ingredients in the supermarket in town or at the market. If you prefer to indulge in a meal prepared for you, there are plenty of restaurants in our vicinity. Prices are much lower compared to the Czech Republic.

We'll connect online for the first time in the evening, give you tips on what to do the next day, where to go for a swim, where to get rice and curry or the best coffee in town, and sort out whatever you might need.
Tropical Garden consists of two holiday homes in a large garden with a swimming pool. At your disposal you will have double rooms with a balcony overlooking the sea. Tropical Garden is located in a quiet part of Tangalle, with only small guesthouses and restaurants nearby. But at the same time it is close to "civilization", it is half an hour walk to the town with shops, ATMs and everything you need and barely ten minutes by tuktuk, the local taxi. Right in front of the Tropical Garden you will find a beautiful beach, but you can't swim in front of the houses because of the currents and waves. You can find out where to go for a safe swim from me at the calla or in the information material. But don't worry, the nearest safe swimming area is only a 10-minute walk away.
Free day with no trips planned. You can use it to explore the area, swim at one of the beaches or perhaps pamper yourself with a local Ayurvedic massage 😉
You're about to embark on your first big trip to one of Sri Lanka's top attractions - an unadulterated jeep safari in Udawalawe National Park. Udawalawe is one of the best places to see elephants in the wild, the chances of seeing these amazing animals up close are bordering on certain 😉 But you can also look forward to seeing buffalo, crocodiles, various species of deer, peacocks, monkeys and countless birds.
The Elephant Transit Home cares for orphaned or injured baby elephants. You can see sometimes up to fifty small elephants of different ages. They are allowed to roam freely in the adjacent national park, and every three hours they come to be fed artificial breast milk from large bottles, at which you will also observe them. Transit Home's main aim is to return the elephants to the wild and they have been very successful in this regard.
On Thursday you will have another day completely in your control. You can use it to visit the beautiful Pallikudawa beach.
Afternoon will be spent again to suit everyone's taste, you can explore Marakoliya beach, which stretches for miles from Tropical Garden to Rekawa.
In the afternoon you will have a half-day trip together. You will go to the nearby "mini-botanical garden" where you will learn about the local flora and lesser known species of crops grown in Sri Lanka. For example, do you know what an anona or jackfruit looks like and grows like? No? Then after this trip you will :) As a bonus, you will get a "fish pedicure" :D
In the evening you will move to the Kalametiya Bird Sanctuary, where a catamaran will be waiting to take you around the lagoon. You will enjoy the flocks of birds returning to their nests and the beautiful sunset.
You have another free day ahead of you. You can use it to go for a swim at the amazing beach, which is rightly called Silent Beach. Don't expect crowds of tourists here :)
The next day you will have a day trip together, this time to see the sights. Sri Lanka has a long and complicated past, the colonial part of which is written into the face of Galle. The core of the city is an imposing UNESCO-listed fort. The city is also a popular base for foreigners living in Sri Lanka and offers a much wider range of shopping opportunities compared to our town. An ideal opportunity to shop for souvenirs to take home :) There are several interesting stops along the way.
The first stop will be the iconic Coconut Tree Hill lookout at the famous Mirissa Beach. You simply cannot miss this photogenic spot with its stunning views :)
Fishermen on stilts are one of the typical motifs on postcards from Sri Lanka. However, it is not a traditional way of fishing, in recent years fishermen pose like this for tourists. Nice for a photo, but that's the way to approach it and possibly not be surprised when Mr. Fisherman asks for money. Take it from me that he's now doing photomodelling rather than fishing.
Galle is a bit of a revelation among Sri Lankan cities. Its centre feels like a Mediterranean town with lots of shops, cafes, galleries and museums... When you get tired of wandering the walls, grab a coffee or a drink in the former barracks building and enjoy the view of the endless ocean.
Another relaxing day can be spent at Harmony Beach, just a short walk from Tropical Garden. Sporty people can take a yoga class in the morning or rent a kayak and go to the lagoon.
You are about to have the longest and, for me, the most beautiful trip together. You will go for a full day in the mountains to emerald tea plantations, waterfalls and beautiful views.
Your first stop on the way to the mountains will be Rawana Ella waterfalls, which fall from a height of several dozen meters.
You will continue to the beautiful viewpoint of Little Adam's Peak. It is ideal to reach the top by about 10am, before the clouds cover it. This will probably be the only time you will be in a hurry in Sri Lanka 😀 Adrenaline junkies can try the zip line below Adam's Peak :)
From the viewpoint, you descend down between tea plantations and walk through the forest and between fields of locals to reach the famous nine-arch bridge
You won't miss at least a short train ride between tea plantations with amazing views. Depending on how you manage to catch the train, you will take a ride to either Bandarawella or Badulla village. There again, the driver will be waiting for you.
On the way, you can still stop at one of the tea factories. The process of tea processing is interesting, even if you are not a technical fan. And if it doesn't impress, at least you can enjoy a cup of tea in a beautiful setting.
After a more challenging trip, you will have a more relaxing day again. Among the beaches, you can try nearby Goyamboka this time.
Every Sunday and Wednesday there is a "big market" in Tangalle full of colours and scents. Take advantage of a free day to visit and buy fresh fruit or spices.
In the afternoon you will go together to the beautiful rock temple of Mulkirigala.It is similar to the more famous rock temple in Dambulla, but unlike it there is a peaceful atmosphere. Rather than the crowds of foreign tourists, you'll encounter groups of local worshippers, traditionally dressed in white and carrying flowers for Lord Buddha, heading here for prayer and meditation. You will climb more than 500 steps in total, but you will be rewarded with a beautiful view of the surrounding countryside as you climb to the top.
It is the penultimate day and the last trip together. This one will please especially the turtle lover. In nearby Dikwella there is the same place where 4-5 giant turtles arrive every day. You can snorkel with them and observe these beautiful creatures in their natural habitat. Those who are not interested in turtles can be taken to the nearby Hiriketiya surfing beach.
On the way back you can stop at the natural sea geyser Hoommanaya Blow Hole. A short walk will take you to a viewpoint where a geyser gushes out through a gap between the rocks every few minutes, the height of which depends on what the waves are like at the time.
It's your last day. It will be up to you how you spend it, whether you go for a walk in the surroundings that you will already know perfectly by then, visit the beach you liked best, go into town to buy the last souvenirs or just stay by the pool or in the hammock. In the evening you will be transferred to the airport. I believe you will enjoy your stay and fall in love with Sri Lanka as much as I did.

Every Sunday and Wednesday there is a "big market" in Tangalle full of colours and scents. Take advantage of a free day to visit and buy fresh fruit or spices.

Rather than the crowds of foreign tourists, you'll encounter groups of local worshippers, traditionally dressed in white and carrying flowers for Lord Buddha, heading here for prayer and meditation. You will climb more than 500 steps in total, but you will be rewarded with a beautiful view of the surrounding countryside as you climb to the top.
It is the penultimate day and the last trip together. This one will please especially the turtle lover. In nearby Dikwella there is the same place where 4-5 giant turtles arrive every day. You can snorkel with them and observe these beautiful creatures in their natural habitat. Those who are not interested in turtles can be taken to the nearby Hiriketiya surfing beach.
On the way back you can stop at the natural sea geyser Hoommanaya Blow Hole. A short walk will take you to a viewpoint where a geyser gushes out through a gap between the rocks every few minutes, the height of which depends on what the waves are like at the time.
It's your last day. It will be up to you how you spend it, whether you go for a walk in the surroundings that you will already know perfectly by then, visit the beach you liked best, go into town to buy the last souvenirs or just stay by the pool or in the hammock. You will be staying at the Tropical Garden holiday homes, which are owned by my family and where we go every year as a "cottage". The houses are right on the beach in a large garden with a pool. You'll stay in double rooms, each with a private bathroom and a balcony overlooking the ocean. It is therefore ideal if you sign up for the tour as a couple.
How it works
This trip is a cross between an organised tour and a holiday on your own. Worldee will arrange the flights for you and I, as your "travel buddy from afar", will help and advise on everything you need before and during the trip. Although I won't travel directly with you, I will be available for regular evening online calls and anytime on WhatsApp. There will be several trips together, which will be pre-arranged and you will take them in a van with a verified English-speaking driver. About half of the days are without a pre-planned programme, so you can spend them as you choose. Each evening I will be available for a joint online meeting where you can ask me anything you need, we will discuss the next day's programme and, if you wish, I can help you arrange excursions for the days not included in the itinerary.

You will explore the beautiful southern coast of Sri Lanka, which is rightly said to be home to some of the best beaches on the island. You'll marvel at the amazing wildlife, go on an elephant-watching safari in Udawalawe National Park, walk amongst tea plantations and see iconic viewpoints. You won't miss the sights, visiting Buddhist temples and the historic city of Galle. And the rest of the time you'll relax or explore the area on your own, perhaps on a bike or scooter, as you wish.
How about food
Sri Lankan cuisine is full of flavours and aromas, and you can enjoy fresh fish and seafood, fresh tropical fruits and local specialities like rice and curry and kottu rotti. If you like to cook, you can take advantage of our fully equipped kitchen, you can find local fresh ingredients in the supermarket in town or at the market. If you prefer to indulge in a meal prepared for you, there are plenty of restaurants in our vicinity. Prices are much lower compared to the Czech Republic.
Who will enjoy the trip
If you want to go to an exotic country but don't dare to go all by yourself, struggle with the language barrier and would appreciate support in Czech, don't have time or don't enjoy figuring out and organizing everything on your own, but at the same time don't want to go to a big all inclusive resort or go sightseeing in a bus full of strangers, then this trip is for you :)
Welcome to Sri Lanka 😀 You will arrive on the island in the morning. A driver will be waiting for you in the arrivals hall at the airport with a sign with your name on it. An air-conditioned van will then transport you to Tangalle. The journey takes about 3 hours depending on traffic and you can use it to catch up on sleep after a long flight :)
You arrive in Tangalle around lunchtime, check in and depending on your mood, you can either stay by the pool or head to the beach, a walk around the area or a welcome drink 😉 Tropical Garden Holiday Homes on Madilla Beach will be your home for the next few days.
We'll connect online for the first time in the evening, give you tips on what to do the next day, where to go for a swim, where to get rice and curry or the best coffee in town, and sort out whatever you might need.
Tropical Garden consists of two holiday homes in a large garden with a swimming pool. At your disposal you will have double rooms with a balcony overlooking the sea. Tropical Garden is located in a quiet part of Tangalle, with only small guesthouses and restaurants nearby. But at the same time it is close to "civilization", it is half an hour walk to the town with shops, ATMs and everything you need and barely ten minutes by tuktuk, the local taxi. Right in front of the Tropical Garden you will find a beautiful beach, but you can't swim in front of the houses because of the currents and waves. You can find out where to go for a safe swim from me at the calla or in the information material. But don't worry, the nearest safe swimming area is only a 10-minute walk away.
Free day with no trips planned. You can use it to explore the area, swim at one of the beaches or perhaps pamper yourself with a local Ayurvedic massage 😉
You're about to embark on your first big trip to one of Sri Lanka's top attractions - an unadulterated jeep safari in Udawalawe National Park. Udawalawe is one of the best places to see elephants in the wild, the chances of seeing these amazing animals up close are bordering on certain 😉 But you can also look forward to seeing buffalo, crocodiles, various species of deer, peacocks, monkeys and countless birds.
The Elephant Transit Home cares for orphaned or injured baby elephants. You can see sometimes up to fifty small elephants of different ages. They are allowed to roam freely in the adjacent national park, and every three hours they come to be fed artificial breast milk from large bottles, at which you will also observe them. Transit Home's main aim is to return the elephants to the wild and they have been very successful in this regard.
On Thursday you will have another day completely in your control. You can use it to visit the beautiful Pallikudawa beach.
Afternoon will be spent again to suit everyone's taste, you can explore Marakoliya beach, which stretches for miles from Tropical Garden to Rekawa.
In the afternoon you will have a half-day trip together. You will go to the nearby "mini-botanical garden" where you will learn about the local flora and lesser known species of crops grown in Sri Lanka. For example, do you know what an anona or jackfruit looks like and grows like? No? Then after this trip you will :) As a bonus, you will get a "fish pedicure" :D
In the evening you will move to the Kalametiya Bird Sanctuary, where a catamaran will be waiting to take you around the lagoon. You will enjoy the flocks of birds returning to their nests and the beautiful sunset.
You have another free day ahead of you. You can use it to go for a swim at the amazing beach, which is rightly called Silent Beach. Don't expect crowds of tourists here :)
The next day you will have a day trip together, this time to see the sights. Sri Lanka has a long and complicated past, the colonial part of which is written into the face of Galle. The core of the city is an imposing UNESCO-listed fort. The city is also a popular base for foreigners living in Sri Lanka and offers a much wider range of shopping opportunities compared to our town. An ideal opportunity to shop for souvenirs to take home :) There are several interesting stops along the way.
The first stop will be the iconic Coconut Tree Hill lookout at the famous Mirissa Beach. You simply cannot miss this photogenic spot with its stunning views :)
Fishermen on stilts are one of the typical motifs on postcards from Sri Lanka. However, it is not a traditional way of fishing, in recent years fishermen pose like this for tourists. Nice for a photo, but that's the way to approach it and possibly not be surprised when Mr. Fisherman asks for money. Take it from me that he's now doing photomodelling rather than fishing.
Galle is a bit of a revelation among Sri Lankan cities. Its centre feels like a Mediterranean town with lots of shops, cafes, galleries and museums... When you get tired of wandering the walls, grab a coffee or a drink in the former barracks building and enjoy the view of the endless ocean.
Another relaxing day can be spent at Harmony Beach, just a short walk from Tropical Garden. Sporty people can take a yoga class in the morning or rent a kayak and go to the lagoon.
