7 days on the road in the province of Almería in Andalucía. Sea - Mountains - Countryside - Gastronomy.

Let's drive together in two rental cars through the province of Almería, enjoy the beautiful beaches of Cabo de Gata National Park, take in the views of the sea and coastline, walk through charming villages and countryside, and sample the delicious gastronomy here. We'll also visit the unique rocky desert of Tabernas, where many famous westerns were filmed, including "Once Upon a Time in the West", "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" and "Indiana Jones". By car and on foot, we will explore the various film locations and enjoy the fun of the western town of Fort Bravo.

From the desert, we'll move to the lush countryside called La Alpujarra in the Sierra Nevada foothills, where we'll hike along the river channel and in the hills and recharge our batteries with delicious Spanish food. We'll head (by car) up to 2000m to the Calar Alto Observatory. Almost every day we will have hikes (max 8 km) and we will also go kayaking. At the end of the trip, we will head to the provincial capital, Almería, which is known for its unique tapas culture and activities.

You will have a unique opportunity to experience a different side of Andalucía that is mostly known only to locals.

I spent 10 months in Almería and visited the area several times, speaking Spanish and meeting my friends.

Who is the trip suitable for?

This trip is suitable for travellers who enjoy a busy schedule and active holidays (mostly) in the countryside and rural tourism. We will spend most of the time together in a group. Primarily we are going to explore diverse and unusual places, we will do a lot of driving, but there will also be walking trips that we can adapt to the weather and our mood. If it is very hot, we will take shorter routes and drive more. The car journeys will take a maximum of 1,5h and we will stop for sightseeing along the way and you definitely won't get bored of the surrounding countryside! Physical difficulty: low to medium.

Accommodation

Accommodation is provided in hotels/guesthouses/rural apartments/cottages in double rooms (in Fort Bravo, a cabin for 6 and a cabin for 2).

Accommodation is without breakfast (unless otherwise stated).

Transport

Transport by air from Prague. Travel by 2 rental cars. We need at least two skilled drivers (Travel Buddy is a non-driver).

Diet

We will have the opportunity to visit a variety of local tapas bars, restaurants and café bars. We will not be cooking. Bring plenty of snacks, there may be a longer break between breakfast and lunch. The price level is friendly, definitely lower than in the cities. Tapas and shared meals work out better. Local beer and wine is also well priced.

The cuisine here does not favour vegans, there is always something for vegetarians (Travel Buddy is a pescetarian). The inland cuisine is more dense (cheese, cured ham, beef, potatoes, pulses etc) and there will be a large selection of fish and seafood by the sea. Fresh vegetables and fruit are commonplace (we will indeed see plenty of greenhouses).

Program

Detailed program in the Itinerary. Program may vary according to weather and participants' wishes. We can always agree on a minor change (e.g. spend more time swimming, shorten or lengthen the walks or enjoy the views more). It will be very sunny and warm.

⭐Price includes:

  • Return flight Prague - Almería (direct flight 3.15h, incl. on board luggage up to 8 kg, we will do the check-in for you)
  • accommodation - hotels/rural hostels and hostels/chalets at the campsite (detailed information in the section Purchase of the trip for each date)
  • 2 rental cars (including fuel and insurance)
  • parking fee
  • 3h kayaking
  • Travel Buddy - Moni Zuberová (more info in Profile)
  • bankruptcy insurance

⭐Price does not include:

  • food (1 accommodation will include breakfast)
  • travel (personal) insurance
  • admissions
  • checked luggage (luggage can be purchased up to 7 days before departure)
  • own expenses

We covered a large part of the province of Almería in one week, enjoying both the azure blue sea and natural beaches and the interesting rocky landscape, including the desert. We sampled local delicacies and explored places where you wouldn't normally see a tourist. Each day was different and left us with many memories, new friendships and experiences.
