Mauritius is characterised by its romantic white sandy coastline, clear blue lagoons with wonderfully warm waters, stylish hotels, delicious cuisine and warm smiles from the locals. The trip is designed as a combination of a staycation and sightseeing holiday - whether you relax on the beach or explore more of the island through excursions is entirely up to you.
On arrival in Mauritius, you will enjoy a pleasant car ride to idyllic Belle Mare, where you will immerse yourself in an oasis of peace and tranquillity. After a long flight, you deserve to relax, and this is where you'll find it - spend the rest of the day relaxing on the bright white beaches, letting the sound of the turquoise waves wash over you and enjoying the sunset with a cocktail in hand. This is the perfect place to unwind and recharge before your Mauritian adventure.
Pick up your rental car at the airport from one of the local car rental agencies. When you pick up your car, we recommend that you thoroughly check its condition - especially the bodywork, tyres, lights, air conditioning and fuel level. Pay attention to the insurance conditions and document any minor damage before you leave, ideally in the form of photographs.
After picking up the car, you'll make your way to your hotel, where you'll check in and get some well-deserved rest after a long flight.
In Mauritius, you drive on the left side of the road, just like in the UK, India or Australia, for example.
To drive as a tourist, an international driving licence or national licence will suffice (most European licences are accepted).
Road signs are in English and road conditions are generally good, especially on the main routes.

The journey takes about an hour and partly follows the east coast of Mauritius, so you can enjoy beautiful ocean views, palm-fringed beaches and typical tropical landscape. It's a pleasant and scenic drive that creates the perfect holiday atmosphere. If you wish, you can spice it up with a stop at La Vallée de Ferney – a nature reserve offering short trails and the opportunity to observe endemic fauna and flora.
Belle Mare is a popular area on the east coast of Mauritius, known for its long and wide beach with fine white sand and crystal clear turquoise water. This part of the island offers ideal conditions for a quiet stay by the sea, swimming and water sports such as snorkelling, windsurfing or paddleboarding.
Belle Mare is also popular for its luxury resorts and hotels, making it a great place for relaxation and family holidays. The surrounding countryside is gently undulating and offers walking and cycling routes to enjoy the beautiful nature of Mauritius.
The proximity to nature reserves and places of interest around Belle Mare extends the range of activities for anyone with a thirst for exploration and adventure. In the area, you can enjoy day trips to see the beauty of nature, discover the lesser-known corners of the island or just enjoy a leisurely stroll through the tropical landscape

Experience a day of relaxation on the east coast of Mauritius - relax on the white beaches of Belle Mare, indulge in a spa, yoga or snorkelling, or explore the surrounding nature and local life.
As far as public beaches go, Belle Mare Beach is one of the most beautiful and longest beaches in Mauritius. With over ten kilometres of white sand and clear waters, it offers ideal conditions for swimming, sunbathing and walking. The beach is publicly accessible, quiet and less crowded, making it an ideal place to relax.
In addition to water fun, Belle Mare also offers varied options for those who desire quieter or land-based activities. Go for a walk or an easy trek in the nearby Bras d'Eau National Park, where you will be surrounded by tropical nature and the sound of the forest. Golf enthusiasts will enjoy the top courses along the coast, while the traditional markets of the Centre de Flacq provide a cultural atmosphere. The area is also ideal for cycling trips among the palm trees and sugar cane. Local bike hire shops, such as E-labbikes and Bike Haven, offer a wide selection of bikes of different types and sizes, including mountain bikes and comfortable city bikes. Your Sunrise Attitude hotel also provides bike hire for its guests.

From Belle Mare, you'll move to the vibrant Grand Baie, which offers a wide range of experiences - from lazing on the beautiful beaches, to exciting water sports, to exploring stylish boutiques and delicious restaurants.
Grand Baie is a picturesque town on the northwest coast of Mauritius, in the Riviére du Rempart district, just 25 km from the capital Port Louis, between the resorts of Pereybere and Trou aux Biches. Its white sandy beaches, lively restaurants and growing resorts make it one of the island's most popular tourist destinations. The town offers a wide range of water sports, from swimming, sailing and windsurfing to diving lessons and glass-bottom boat rides. For the adventurous, there's also the option to walk on the seabed in a special wetsuit or ride in a two-seater dive boat among tropical fish. Catamaran and sailboat trips lead to the nearby islands off the north coast, offering unique experiences of tropical nature and the underwater world. In addition to active pursuits, fashion and craft shops attract visitors, providing a varied experience even on land.

The second day in Grand Baie is entirely at your disposal, so you can enjoy it exactly as you like. You can start by relaxing on beautiful public beaches like La Cuvette or Pereybere, where you can swim, do yoga or rent a kayak or paddleboard to explore the coastline from the water. Snorkelling or underwater walks are available, allowing you to experience the colourful underwater life without diving. Enjoy the day just the way you like it!
If you're more interested in exploring the local culture, you can visit the bustling craft market, stroll through the shops and sit in the cafes. For lunch, I recommend enjoying fresh seafood at one of the beach restaurants. In the afternoon, enjoy a catamaran trip to nearby islands where you can snorkel and relax on the beach, or stay in town and indulge in a spa or massage. Le Morne Brabant is an iconic mountain and peninsula on the southwestern tip of Mauritius, known for its beautiful scenery, historical significance and wealth of activities. The area around Le Morne offers beautiful beaches with white sand and clear turquoise water. It is also a popular hiking spot, with the climb to the top of Le Morne Brabant providing breathtaking panoramic views of the Indian Ocean and surrounding countryside.
If you prefer quieter activities, you can go horse riding on the beach or in the surrounding forests. Some rides are also possible at sunset.
It is also possible to encounter dolphins in the surrounding waters. Some organised trips offer the opportunity to swim with these amazing creatures.
In addition to its natural beauty, the area is also known for its luxury resorts and tranquil atmosphere that attracts visitors looking for a combination of adventure and relaxation.

Le Morne Brabant is a 556 metre high basalt monolith on the southwestern tip of Mauritius. From the very top, it offers a panoramic view of the island's lagoons and the Indian Ocean. The ascent of Le Morne Brabant is about a 6.4 km circuit with an elevation gain of about 532 meters and usually takes 3 to 4 hours depending on pace and breaks. The first part of the route is relatively easy, but there are steep sections at the end where you have to use your hands to hold onto rocks.
The starting point for the ascent of Le Morne Brabant is located just outside the village of Le Morne on the south-western tip of Mauritius. Specifically, it is a parking lot and trailhead near the hotels and beaches in the area. There you will find information boards and a place where visitors must sign in before starting the climb for safety. The trail is open daily from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm. There is no entrance fee. You can also hike independently, but guides are recommended to guarantee safety and provide interesting information about the history of the place. The guides are certified in first aid and mountain medicine. Tips for the climb: start early in the morning to avoid the heat, wear sturdy shoes, a hat and use sunscreen. Remember to take plenty of water and something to eat. It is advisable not to go out alone and to carry a fully charged mobile phone.

Take an unforgettable journey into the heart of the tropical wilderness of Chamarel, where nature plays with all its colours. Marvel at the majestic Chamarel Falls, which cascades from a height into a green valley, and be enchanted by the magical Seven Coloured Land - a natural phenomenon unlike anything else you'll see. At Ebony Forest, you'll enjoy a peaceful walk above the treetops and unparalleled views of the southwest coast. End the day in style with a visit to the Rhumerie de Chamarel, where you can taste the finest Mauritian rum at its source.
Chamarel is one of the most picturesque and most visited areas in the southwest of Mauritius. This small village is best known for its breathtaking natural scenery and unique geological phenomena found nowhere else on the island.
The main attraction is the Seven Coloured Earths of Chamarel - a natural phenomenon where a spectrum of different colours (red, purple, blue, yellow, green...), formed by the weathering of volcanic rocks, appear on a small area of land. Right next to this attraction you will also find the Chamarella Waterfall.
In addition to nature, the area is also famous for its Rhumeria de Chamarel, where you can see the process of Mauritian rum production and taste different types of this traditional drink.
Chamarel also offers beautiful views of the countryside, scenic lookouts, local restaurants serving Creole cuisine and the authentic atmosphere of rural Mauritius.
The grey-coloured land of Chamarel is one of Mauritius' most spectacular natural wonders, located in the Chamarel region in the south-west of the island. This unusual geological formation captivates visitors with sand dunes that naturally play with seven different colours, from red to purple to blue. The colours are formed by the weathering of volcanic rocks and are uniquely separated by mineral composition. In the protected geopark, where entry is charged at MUR 550, you can not only enjoy the view of the colourful streaks from the viewing platforms, but also visit the nearby Chamarel Waterfall and meet the giant Aldabra tortoises. The Geopark is open daily from 8:30am to 5:30pm and offers an exceptional experience for all those who love nature, photography and geology.

Chamarela Waterfall is one of the most impressive natural phenomena of Mauritius. With a height of over 100 metres, it is one of the highest waterfalls on the island. It is fed by three rivers that join and fall over ancient volcanic rocks that are 8 to 10 million years old. Visitors can admire the waterfall from several viewing platforms that offer panoramic views of the falling water and surrounding greenery. For the more adventurous natures, it is possible to take a three-hour trek to the base of the falls, where you can refresh yourself in the natural pool and experience the waterfall up close. Entrance to the waterfall is included in the price of the geopark ticket.

Rhumerie de Chamarel is one of the most famous and most visited rum distilleries in Mauritius, set in the picturesque landscape of the green hills of the Chamarel region. It is unique in that it is one of the few to use fresh sugar cane juice instead of molasses, resulting in 'rhum agricole' - a high quality and aromatic rum in the style of the French Caribbean islands.
The distillery offers guided tours of the production process, during which visitors will see modern distillation equipment, traditional copper pot stills and the way rum is aged in barrels. At the end of the tour, you can taste several types of rums, including white, aged and flavoured (e.g. with vanilla or coffee).
The complex also includes a stylish restaurant, L'Alchimiste, where you can enjoy Creole cuisine made with local ingredients overlooking the green valley and cane fields.

After a pleasant stay in the Charamel area, you will travel to the picturesque Blue Bay, where you will spend the last days of your vacation. The journey takes approximately one hour.

After nine days of adventure, beautiful beaches, green mountains and a colourful Creole cultural heritage, it's goodbye to Mauritius. After a carefree return of your car at the airport, all that's left to do is check in for your flight home. If you have a little time before your flight, enjoy your last moments in Mauritius in style - wander among the fragrant duty-free shops full of exotic souvenirs, or take a well-deserved rest in the tranquil airport café with a delicious cup of Mauritian vanilla coffee for a last taste of tropical paradise.

Fill up your tank as close to the airport as possible and keep your receipt. Check the vehicle before returning it, remove any rubbish and take photos of its current condition if necessary. Follow the signs to the drop-off point, or use the shuttle bus if the rental company is located outside the airport. Upon return, have the condition of the car and the keys handed over to you. If you will be returning the car outside of business hours, check in advance how self-service returns work.
It's time to say goodbye to Mauricio and head back home. With a head full of experiences and a memory full of photos, you board the plane for home. The island remains behind you as a beautiful memory of a tropical paradise in the middle of the Indian Ocean.
Bon voyage and we look forward to our next adventure!

To drive as a tourist, an international driving licence or national licence will suffice (most European licences are accepted).
Road signs are in English and road conditions are generally good, especially on the main routes.

The trip from the hotel to the airport takes approximately 15 minutes.
When returning your car, we recommend arriving at the airport well in advance - ideally at least three hours before departure to allow time for all formalities and any delays.
Take a 10-day trip to the exotic island of Mauritius.

Finish the evening with a romantic dinner overlooking the sunset, or live entertainment in one of the bars or clubs.
Explore the surrounding area on a scooter or bike - rentals are available, making it easy to get to nearby beaches and less touristy spots.

A trip to Flat Island (Île Plate) is a great alternative to visiting Gabriel Island, especially if you are looking for a quieter and less touristy environment. Flat Island is larger, has more vegetation and offers beautiful beaches, snorkeling and the opportunity to climb to the historic lighthouse.
The atmosphere here is quiet and intimate, which is especially appreciated by couples or singles looking to relax. Similar to Gabriel Island, excursions here include a cruise, BBQ lunch, drinks and snorkelling, with prices also starting around 1,900 MUR.
Both trips last approximately 7 hours, from morning to afternoon. While Gabriel Island is ideal for a social day at the beach,Flat Island will offer a quieter and more natural setting. The choice depends on what type of experience you're looking for - a more lively and action-packed day out, or a peaceful escape into nature.
