Furnas is an area famous for its thermal springs and mud baths. Here you can enjoy a thermal bath in the local spa or watch the preparation of the traditional dish "Cozido das Furnas", which is cooked on the hot sand in the ground.
Parque Terra Nostra is one of the most famous botanical gardens in the area. This park is located in a beautiful landscape and is known for its colourful flora, thermal springs and spas.

This circular route, which passes by six different lakes, offers spectacular panoramic views of lush greenery, as well as beautiful forest paths that are moist and lively even after several days without rain, thanks to the peat absorbing water!

On the way back we can stop at the Ribeira dos Caldeirões Park. This breathtaking place combines the beauty of botanical gardens, a historical museum and mountain valleys.
This nature reserve is open to visitors free of charge 24 hours a day.
On the last day we will go to Lagoa do Fogo. We will see the whole area around the lake and then take the last trek of our journey, which will take us to a dilapidated hydroelectric plant. 👟
It is one of the largest freshwater lakes in the Azores and is distinguished by its crystal clear water, which takes on various shades of blue and green. The surrounding hills and vegetation add to the impression of wild and unspoiled nature.
The trek starts at a small lake where the water is one of the coldest in the Azores, yet it's a great place to swim! We will then proceed to a satre abandoned hydroelectric power station, long lost in the countryside. The path leads through an official trail in the middle of wild nature.
In the remaining moments before departure, we can possibly see the sights of Ponta Delgado that we missed on the first day. 🏛️
