Take advantage of its unique cove beaches, including 1,000 Steps Beach and Victoria Beach, though if a more traditional elongated shoreline is more your speed, you'll no doubt enjoy the bustling Main Beach or Crystal Cove State Park. And be sure to do as the Californians do and take a hike, preferably at Laguna Coast Wilderness Park. After you've worked up a sweat, end your day admiring the artwork at California's oldest museum or catch a sunset at Crescent Bay Point Park or Heisler Park, two coastal gems.
1000 Steps Beach in Laguna Beach is a beautiful, quieter beach accessible via approximately 230 steps (not actually a thousand). You can expect clean sand, caves, tide pools, and a great place to take photos and relax. Access is a bit challenging, but the views are worth it. Parking is limited, so it's best to arrive early. Bring water, sunscreen, and good shoes, especially if you want to explore the rocks or go further at low tide.
Victoria Beach is one of the most beautiful and photogenic beaches in Laguna Beach, known mainly for its "fairytale tower" (Pirate Tower) built into the rock. Access is a bit hidden—through a residential neighborhood and a steep sidewalk—but it's worth it. The beach is small, with white sand, tide pools, and a small natural pool at low tide. Parking in the area is limited, so it pays to arrive early. Bring water, sunscreen, and water shoes if you want to climb the rocks.
Crystal Cove State Park is a large natural park on the coast between Newport Beach and Laguna Beach, ideal for nature lovers, hikers, and those seeking peaceful swimming. You'll find long beaches, picturesque cliffs, tide pools, as well as hiking trails and viewpoints overlooking the ocean. There is a historic district with beach cottages and a restaurant right on the beach (Beachcomber Café). The park has multiple entrances and large parking lots (paid), but it is recommended to arrive early, especially on weekends. Don't forget comfortable shoes, sunscreen, and water – whether you're going to the sea or the hills.
Laguna Coast Wilderness Park is a nature reserve in the hills above Laguna Beach, ideal for hiking, running, or mountain biking. It offers dozens of kilometers of trails with beautiful views of the ocean, canyons, and wildlife. You'll often see lizards, birds, and deer here. The terrain is mostly dry and hilly, so bring sturdy shoes, water, and a hat. The park has several entrances (the best known is the Nix Nature Center) and paid parking. It's best to go in the morning when it's cooler and less crowded. A great place to escape the city and get back to nature.
Crescent Bay Point Park is a small, landscaped park on a cliff in Laguna Beach with breathtaking views of the ocean and Crescent Bay below. It's a great place for picnics, relaxing, or watching whales, dolphins, and sunsets. The beach below the park is accessible on foot and is ideal for swimming and snorkeling. The park has benches, green lawns, and is easily accessible, but parking in the area is limited. It is recommended to arrive early, mainly for the beautiful photos and peaceful atmosphere.
The Laguna Art Museum is a small but high-quality museum focusing on Californian art, from classics to contemporary artists. It is located right by the ocean in the center of Laguna Beach. Ideal for a quiet cultural break, it takes about 30-60 minutes to visit. There is an admission fee, but they sometimes have free days or discounts. Parking is available nearby (paid). Great for art lovers and tourists who want to escape the sun for a while.
Spend a day in the beautiful Dana Point harbor. Explore the beaches and hiking trails. Take a surf or yoga class on the beach or spend the day shopping at the many unqiue stores on the strip. Finish your day with a luxury sunset and wine cruise down the coasts of orange county.
