Head to the heart of Vietnam! Discover the bustle and charm of Hanoi, explore the surrounding villages and scenery like something out of a movie - literally, like where Godzilla was filmed. There's also vibrant Saigon and excursions to its surroundings full of history, flavour and colour. Authentic experiences, breathtaking scenery and a culture that will grab you by the heart!
On arrival at Nội Bài Airport, a comfortable transfer to the heart of Hanoi awaits. Your first encounter with the vibrant city, where history, culture and the aroma of street food come together, is here. Leave behind the worries of the journey, settle in and indulge in your first leisurely stroll around the area or a well-deserved rest as you please. Tomorrow the real adventure begins!
If you are arriving for the first time and have luggage, I recommend taxi or Grab for airport transfers - they are convenient, fast and reasonably priced. If you want to save money and have light luggage, the Line 86 bus is a great combination of price and comfort.
Grab (mobile app): a popular alternative to traditional taxis. Prices are fixed and often lower than regular taxis, usually around VND220,000 - 300,000.
The Grab or Be app can also be used for the Mototaxi service when moving around Hanoi. Just enter the destination and select "Bike". Prices usually range from 10,000 to 40,000 VND.
If you choose the bus, board the orange Line 86 express bus which stops right outside the terminal. The journey to downtown Hanoi takes approximately 45-60 minutes. Get off at the Bưu điện Hà Nội (Hanoi Post Office) or Trần Quang Khải stop, both of which are very close to the centre.
If you just want to take a light stroll after you arrive, I recommend a walk through the quieter part of the Old Quarter - specifically around Ma May and Ta Hien streets. From the May De Ville Lakeside Hotel, exit onto Gia Ngu Street and continue westwards. You will soon come across Ma May Street, where you will find a mixture of traditional Vietnamese architecture, small cafes, galleries and street food stalls. Ta Hien Street, just a few steps away, is known for its relaxed atmosphere and is ideal for an easy stroll or to grab a bite to eat and observe life around you. Finish the whole walk at Bạch Mã Temple, one of the oldest in Hanoi, which offers a peaceful contrast to the busier parts of the city. This short route is perfect for a break along the way, while giving you your first taste of Hanoi's authentic atmosphere.

If you're interested in a gastronomic experience of the local culture, the hotel offers a Hanoi Street Food Tour, which takes you through the hidden alleys of the Old Quarter and introduces you to traditional dishes popular among locals. This walking tour is a great way to sample authentic Vietnamese cuisine while getting a glimpse into everyday life in Hanoi.
Today is a day of Hanoi's most famous sites - immerse yourself in history at the Temple of Literature, stroll around the tranquil Hoan Kiem Lake and sample the iconic bún chả at Hương Liên, made famous by Barack Obama. There's also a coffee stop with a view at the stylish Cafe Phố Cổ, a visit to the elegant Hanoi Opera House and an adrenaline-fuelled photo-op on Train Street, where the train literally passes between houses. End the evening with an original cultural experience - a puppet show on water at the Thang Long Theatre.
If you just "peeked" the day before, you can now immerse yourself more in the life of this part of the city. Stroll through streets like Hang Gai (famous for silk), Hang Bac (silver) or To Tich alley, where fruit smoothies are sold. Streets here are often named after crafts that were once practiced here - an interesting experience in itself.
Lake Hoan Kiem, often translated as Lake of the Returned Sword, is one of the most famous and picturesque places in Hanoi. It is located in the very heart of the city and historically and symbolically represents its centre.
According to legend, King Lê Lợi gave the magic sword that helped him win back to the Golden Turtle, a divine creature that emerged from the lake, after his victory over the Chinese invaders. Hence the name Hoan Kiem - "The Returned Sword". This legend is deeply rooted in Hanoi and adds a mystical dimension to the place.
In the middle of the lake is a small island with the Turtle Tower (Tháp Rùa), which is one of the symbols of Hanoi. At the northeastern tip of the lake, a red wooden bridge, The Húc (Bridge of the Morning Sun), leads to the picturesque Ngoc Son Temple, dedicated to General Tran Hung Dao, who defeated the Mongols in the 13th century.
The lake is a popular spot for locals and tourists alike - perfect for a leisurely stroll, a morning tai-chi or observing the daily life of Hanoi. Around the lake you'll find cafes, street vendors and artists. In the morning and evening, the atmosphere is most impressive, with cultural events often taking place, and on weekends the surrounding area is closed to cars, turning it into a pedestrian zone full of music, dancing and families with children.
Lake Hoan Kiem is not only a beautiful natural place, but also the cultural and historical heart of Hanoi.

Cà Phê Phố Cổ is one of the most characteristic and romantic cafes in Hanoi, combining a historic atmosphere with modern charm.
The café's interior is a fascinating mix of antiques, wooden furniture and art objects that create a calm and nostalgic atmosphere. Each floor offers a different experience: the first floor is open and spacious, the second floor is enclosed with wooden tables and chairs, perfect for those looking for a quieter environment. The third floor is popular with young people who enjoy the atmosphere and take photos here. The roof terrace offers spectacular views of Hoan Kiem Lake and the surrounding cityscape.
The café is famous for its specialty coffee with egg (cà phê trứng), which is creamy and sweet, perfect for those who want to taste something authentic from Vietnamese coffee culture. In addition, it offers a wide range of other beverages, including traditional Vietnamese coffee and teas.
From Z Café Phố Cổ to the Temple of Literature in Hanoi, you can easily take a Grab taxi via the app, with the ride usually costing between 50,000 and 70,000 VND and taking approximately 10-15 minutes depending on traffic.
The Hanoi Literature Festival is the place to go for anyone who wants to escape the hustle and bustle of the city for a while and experience a piece of old Vietnamese culture. Founded in the 11th century, it was the first "university campus" in Vietnam and still feels like a peaceful oasis full of history, zen atmosphere and beautiful architecture. Stroll among the old steles that bear the names of successful students and sit by a small lake or under the trees - the perfect place to relax or take a soulful photo. If you're travelling alone, this place will slow you down and remind you a little why culture is an adventure too.

Hanoi Train Street is a unique stretch of railway line that passes closely by residential buildings in the historic city centre. This attractive site is located in the vicinity of Phùng Hưng and Trần Phú streets in Hoàn Kiếm district, approximately a 10-minute walk from Hoan Kiem Lake. Another well-known section is located in the Ngõ 224 Lê Duẩn area, between Lê Duẩn and Khâm Thiên streets in Đống Đa District.
This narrow street is famous for the fact that the train literally passes between houses, creating a unique experience for visitors. The train passes through this area twice a day, usually around 3:30pm and 7:30pm, but times may vary slightly and it is recommended to arrive at least 30 minutes early to find a good viewing spot.
When visiting this area, it is important to follow safety guidelines and be careful as the space between the tracks and the houses is very narrow. Locals and café owners are used to the presence of tourists and will be happy to provide information or recommendations.

From Hanoi Train Street, you can easily get to Bún Chả Hương Liên by taxi via the Grab app. The ride usually costs between 50,000 and 70,000 VND and takes approximately 10–15 minutes.
Bún Chả Hương Liên is an iconic Vietnamese restaurant in Hanoi, best known for the visit of former US President Barack Obama and Chef Anthony Bourdain in 2016. This event contributed to its international popularity, and the restaurant has since become a popular place for lovers of authentic Vietnamese cuisine.
The restaurant is open every day from 8am to 8pm. It offers traditional Vietnamese dishes, with a specialty being bún chả - grilled pork served with rice noodles, fresh herbs and sauce. In addition, you can also enjoy nem hải sản (sea rolls) and bia Hà Nội (Vietnamese beer).
Of interest to tourists is the "Combo Obama", a special menu including bún chả, seafood rolls and beer, inspired by the food President Obama enjoyed during his visit. The place where he sat is now enclosed in a glass case as a memorial

The Hanoi Opera House is one of the most beautiful buildings in Vietnam and a striking symbol of the colonial era. Located near Hoan Kiem Lake, it was built by the French in 1901-1911 as a smaller copy of the Palais Garnier Opera House in Paris. It is an elegant neo-classical building with an ornate façade, columns and marble staircase.
The opera house serves as the cultural centre of Hanoi - it hosts classical music concerts, ballets, operas and traditional Vietnamese performances. Even if you don't attend any performances, it's worth a look - the exterior alone makes for a great photo op and reminder of the city's historical legacy. Sometimes it's possible to see the building without a concert ticket, but most of the space is only accessible during events.
If you're interested in the architecture, history or cultural life of Hanoi, this building shouldn't be missing from your list. Plus, it's a great place to pop into nearby cafes or businesses for a drink with a view.

If you're looking for a cultural end to the day, book tickets for an evening performance of traditional Vietnamese puppetry on water. The theatre is located right on Hoan Kiem Lake.
Tickets for the performance at the Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre can be purchased either on-site at the theatre box office or conveniently online. Advance booking is recommended as performances tend to sell out quickly, especially during the tourist season. Tickets are available on the theatre's official website thanglongwaterpuppet.com, or through booking portals such as Klook, GetYourGuide or Traveloka. Prices range from around VND100,000 to VND200,000 depending on the type of seat. The theatre offers several performances a day, so it's a good idea to arrive at least 30 minutes before the start time.

Sometimes it's possible to see the building without a concert ticket, but most of the space is only accessible during events.

Travel to the heart of South Vietnam - the fascinating Mekong Delta. Cruise among floating markets, observe life on the river and visit rural villages where time passes more slowly. Tasting fresh tropical fruits and enjoying a home-cooked lunch mirrors the true flavour of the region. An organized trip with transportation and meals will allow you to fully enjoy the authentic atmosphere of one of the most vibrant and beautiful parts of the country.
The one-day trip to the Mekong Delta, organised by the Silverland Jolie Hotel, takes approximately 9 to 12 hours and costs between VND 360,000 and VND1,060,000 per person, depending on the type of trip chosen; bookings can be made directly with the hotel reception, who will also advise you of current availability and programme details.
You will be picked up directly at the hotel in the morning - no hassle, just a comfortable start to the day. And then you're off to the Mekong. It's no ordinary trip, but a journey into a different world - where houses bob on the water, bananas are sold from boats and the river is the main road.

The experience is crowned with an authentic lunch right at the locals' place - no touristy bistro, but honest food like from a Vietnamese grandmother. And if you want, you can even take a ride in a hand-paddled canoe among the palm trees, the silence broken only by the chirping of nature.

And so ends this adventure. After exploring the historic charm of Hanoi and the vibrant energy of Saigon, it's time to say goodbye. Each of these cities has offered unique experiences and unforgettable moments. Departing from Tan Son Nhat Airport (SGN) is the final step in a journey that has brought many memories and inspiration.
Remember to be at the airport at least 2/3 hours before departure.
Your journey across Vietnam is now coming to an end - but your experiences are just beginning to write their own story.
During these days, you have experienced Vietnam from different angles - from the heights of the mountains and the surface of the water, from the modern bustle of the city and from the depth of the past. The journey was built to ensure that each day brought contrast: calm and excitement, depth and lightness, discovery and relaxation. No rush, but full. Without compromise, but with respect.
And now? Now you're taking more than just beautiful photographs with you. You take away the atmosphere - the sound of horns in Saigon, the rustle of palm trees in the Mekong Delta, the taste of pho eaten on a plastic stool by the street. And maybe something more - the feeling that you have not only seen Vietnam, but really experienced it.
Vietnam is not just a place on the map. It's an experience that will stay with you long after you return. And once you remember it, you'll smile - because you'll know you were really there. And you haven't forgotten.

After landing in Saigon (Tan Son Nhat Airport – SGN), I recommend using the Grab app or an official taxi at the terminal exit – the journey to the city center takes approximately 20–30 minutes and costs around 250,000 VND.
You board a boat and let yourself drift through a winding network of canals, among coconut palms and smiling locals. You visit floating markets, stop at rural workshops where sweets are made from coconuts, and taste fresh tropical fruit like you can't get at home.
The experience is crowned with an authentic lunch right at the locals' place - no touristy bistro, but honest food like from a Vietnamese grandmother. And if you want, you can even take a ride in a hand-paddled canoe among the palm trees, the silence broken only by the chirping of nature.
At the end of the day, you'll be dropped off at the hotel again. A peaceful return from an expedition that smells of coconut, sounds like splashing water and tastes like a Vietnam to remember.
If you would like to organise a trip away from the hotel, I recommend checking out saigonadventure.com for a wide range of tours and activities.
