Arrival at Muscat Int’l airport, after visa and immigration formalities, pick up your rental car based on our previous instructions, and drive yourself to the hotel. If you have more time, explore the surroundings of your neighbourhood and get some Kabsa in one of the local restaurants. 

This is your day to really feel the city—no tour group, no rigid schedule. Just you and the open road in Oman’s capital. Start the morning with something awe-inspiring: the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque. Even if you're not the "mosque-visiting" type, this one will stop you in your tracks—its sheer scale, the quiet beauty of the prayer hall, and that massive chandelier that somehow manages to be both extravagant and peaceful. Next, if you're into architecture or music (or both), swing by the Royal Opera House. Even from the outside, it's a stunner. And inside? Pure elegance. 

You don't need a ticket to admire the place—just wander and take it in. From there, you’ve got options. If you're curious about Omani culture and history, the Bait Zubair Museum or the National Museum offer a solid, no-fluff introduction. They're both manageable in size and won’t overwhelm you with endless exhibits. 

When the sun starts to lower, head toward the coast and make your way to Mutrah, Old Muscat. Drive along the corniche with the sea on one side and the mountains on the other. It’s the kind of drive that reminds you why you chose to do this solo. Stop, breathe it in, and just... be there. 

The Mutrah Souk is where things really start to hum at night. It’s chaotic in the best way: incense in the air, silver jewelry, textiles, and everything in between. Don’t rush—this is a place to get lost for a bit. 

This is your day to chase Oman’s wild side—deep canyons, turquoise pools, and coastlines that feel like the edge of the world. No crowds, no concrete, just nature doing its thing.

Start at Bimmah Sinkhole, a surreal, sapphire-colored crater that looks like it crash-landed from space. Swim if you’re up for it—the water’s cool and shockingly clear.

Next, roll down to Fins Beach. It’s low-key stunning: white sand, turquoise sea, and not a soul in sight. Just enough time to breathe, recharge, and snack before the real adventure kicks in.

Wadi Shab is your headliner. Short boat ride, scenic hike, then a swim through cave pools to a hidden waterfall. Yes, really. It’s part hike, part swim, full magic.

If you’ve got time (and energy), end at Wadi Tiwi. Think dramatic cliffs, tiny mountain villages, and a winding road that feels like a secret. It’s quieter than Shab, but every bit as special.

By sunset, you’ll be tired in the best way—sun-kissed, salty, and stunned by how beautiful a day can be.

Today’s drive takes you into the coastal charm of Sur. Explore the city at your own pace—walk along the corniche, stop by the dhow yard to see traditional wooden boats being built, and check out the Sur Fort for a quick dive into the area’s history. After that, head toward Ayega village for a relaxing boat ride—simple, scenic, and a nice change of pace. Then it’s time to leave the coast behind and make your way inland to Wadi Bani Khalid, one of Oman’s most stunning wadis. Think palm trees, clear pools, and the perfect spot for a swim.

Hit the road toward Nizwa, but don’t rush—there’s plenty to see along the way. First stop: the old village of Ibra. Wander through the crumbling mud houses and palm-lined alleys—it’s quiet, atmospheric, and gives you a glimpse of Oman’s past without the crowds. Next, make time for the Oman Across the Ages Museum. It’s modern, beautifully done, and connects the dots between ancient traditions and today’s Oman in a way that’s actually engaging. Once you reach Nizwa, explore the iconic Nizwa Fort and then dive into the souq next door—spices, silver, pottery, and that mix of smells and sounds that makes it feel like a step back in time.

Today’s route winds through some of Oman’s most historic and scenic spots on your way to the mountains. Start with a visit to Jabreen Castle—a beautifully restored palace full of painted ceilings and hidden staircases. Then stop at Bahla, a UNESCO-listed fort that looks like it’s straight out of a storybook.As you head higher into the hills, take a break in Al Hamra, one of the oldest villages in Oman. Don’t miss Bait Al Safah, a living museum where locals share old traditions over fresh coffee.

If time allows, explore the underground world of Al Hoota Cave, then continue the climb to Jebel Shams—Oman’s Grand Canyon. Up here, the views do all the talking.

On the way to Jebal Akhdar, stop at Misfat Al Abriyeen—a hillside village where stone houses, date palms, and ancient falaj systems give you a real feel for traditional Omani life. Next up is Birkat Al Mouz, a quiet village at the base of the mountains, perfect for a short walk through its old ruins and lush banana plantations.

From there, drive up to Jebel Akhdar. Once you’re up, explore the terraced villages like Al Ain, and don’t miss Wadi Bani Habib—an abandoned mountain village with incredible views and an easy, peaceful hike. 

Today’s drive takes you through heritage towns, forts, and hot springs on your way to Mussanah. Start with a quick stop in Barka, known for its seaside fort and lively fish market if you’re there early.

Next, head inland to Nakhl to explore its dramatic fort perched against the mountains. Just nearby, relax your feet at the Ain Al Thawarah hot springs—a natural spot locals love.

Continue to Rustaq, another town rich with history and home to one of Oman’s oldest forts. From there, it's an easy drive to Mussanah, where you can wind down by the coast.

Spend the day relaxing by the pool or enjoying the beach. Alternatively, take a drive to explore Barka and its surroundings.

Wrap up your journey with a drive to Muscat International Airport. Return your rented car at the airport. Once that’s sorted, you’re all set—continue to your departure gate and catch your flight to your next destination, carrying a bit of Oman with you.
