However, few people can appreciate the no less magical hinterland made up of historical towns and megalithic temples older than the Egyptian pyramids.
Despite its miniature size (smaller than Prague, for example), this Mediterranean dwarf offers a lot and you can easily have fun here for several weeks. Families with children and beach lovers will appreciate the pleasant, accessible beaches with a gradual entry into the crystal clear sea. Adventurers and photo hunters will appreciate the rugged coastline with white cliffs and hidden lagoons. History and archeology lovers will be in seventh heaven from the artifacts of ancient times and the legacy of the Knights of Malta. Couples in love will be thrilled by the romantic towns with promenades and sunsets over the coast. In the evening, you can shake your hips in a music club or sit over a drink in one of the many bars. In terms of leisure activities, everyone will find something for themselves here, and the rich local culture, formed by a unique combination of nearby Italy, British rule and Arab past, only underlines the uniqueness of the country. The day of arrival will serve as a first taste of the islands (both figuratively and literally). After arriving at the airport, get a weekly pass for unlimited travel around the islands of Malta and Gozo and head towards the capital city of Valletta. Depending on your arrival time, you can start with a light exploration right away, or leave everything for the next day.
The tour can begin in the vicinity of accommodation near the Grand Harbour, which separates the historic center of Valletta from the Three Cities area. Valletta itself, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, offers a compact center full of monuments, narrow streets and a pleasant Mediterranean atmosphere. Good morning, welcome to Malta! The airport is as small as the country itself and you can quickly get your bearings. Before you leave the arrivals hall, visit the stall selling tourist travel passes. It is definitely worth buying the so-called Explore card, thanks to which you can use buses on both islands without restrictions for a total of 7 days. You buy it at the airport and don't deal with anything later on the buses. From the airport to Valletta and the area around Grand Harbour it is barely half an hour.

In the small center of the capital city of Valletta (mostly built in the 16th century by the Order of the Knights of Malta), a UNESCO World Heritage Site surrounded by walls, you will find a pleasant atmosphere of a small coastal town with many sights. Start your tour with a view from the walls and the beautifully landscaped terraced coastal park Lower and Upper Barracca Gardens overlooking the bay and Valletta Fortress.

The Grand Harbour used to be an important trading center, so it is no wonder that great emphasis was placed on its protection. This is evidenced by several fortresses that guard it. One of them, Fort Saint Elmo (details on the visit here), stands on the western side of the harbor in the capital Valletta. Malta is famous not only for its beaches but also for its rich history that goes deeper than the Egyptian pyramids themselves. One of the island's most popular natural attractions is located not far from the megalithic temples, creating a unique combination of cultural experience and stunning natural scenery. The complex of cliffs, sea caves and rock arches with blue hues caused by the surrounding sea can be viewed from several viewpoints, or you can wander around the surrounding cliffs or take a boat trip directly to the cave. The area is also popular with divers who, in addition to the rich underwater flora, also explore the sunken shipwreck.

Enjoy the setting sun and pleasant evening atmosphere in a charming fishing town with a lively promenade and many restaurants offering, of course, mainly fresh seafood. However, there are other goodies on offer, such as the country's popular and widespread bakeries. You can taste the local famous snack pastizzi or some of the many tempting sweets. In the picturesque harbor, you will not miss the traditional colorful boats "luzzu". If you want to enjoy nature trails along the rugged coastline, just go a little outside the city and enjoy the local white rocks and cliffs contrasting with the beautifully blue sea.
TIP: Not far from the city (approx. 3 km) lies one of the most beautiful natural bays on the island - St. Peter's Pool. The sea is really very clean here and the water is deep. The entrance to the water is rocky and you can jump in. The place is also suitable for snorkeling. Unfortunately, no bus goes here, so you have to walk, take a taxi or try to hitchhike. Maybe you will meet some tourists or locals who will have a ride and a place in the car :) The location is here.

Follow in the footsteps of Popeye the Sailor and see the sets built to film the popular comic about this strong sailor. Later, head out to sea on the nearby long beach and relax your body before the subsequent march. During it, you will walk around the most remote tip of the island, where you will be greeted by breathtaking natural scenery offered by the local rugged coastline with sea caves, secluded bays and white cliffs. If you have snorkeling gear with you, this place is the right one. Then end the evening where you spent the whole day, by the sea. While strolling along the pleasant promenade, enjoy the coastal breeze and soak up the vibrant evening atmosphere.

The village of Popeye the Sailor, the legendary comic book character, provided the backdrop for the film adaptation of this spinach lover. Today it is used as an attraction especially for children, but adults, especially fans of this comic, will also appreciate it. It serves as an amusement park with film sets. There is also a swimming area with a beach pier.

Locally known as Ghadira Bay, it is a long sandy beach with a gentle entry into the sea. Add to this good accessibility directly along the main road on the bus route to the port of Cirkewwa and the necessary facilities (showers, toilets, restaurants, sunbeds...), it is not surprising that it is popular with locals and tourists alike. However, you can definitely find nicer beaches, like the next one :)

No buses go directly to Armier Bay. From the nearest stop, Ahrax, on the main road near the roundabout, head east along the coast following this route.
This more remote beach (or rather two interconnected beaches) is more secluded compared to Ghadira Bay, and you have to walk or drive to it without a car. However, this means it is not as popular and is therefore more natural and, above all, emptier. However, the necessary facilities are available. In addition to swimming in the clear sea with a beautiful sandy beach, you can also enjoy views of the nearby islands of Comino and Gozo. The surrounding rugged coastline is also ideal for snorkeling. You can walk to the next place according to this route.
The location refers to the northernmost tip of the island of Malta with the Dragonara Cave. Exploring the entire eastern coast of the promontory with Għar iċ-Ċomb bay, another cave or church, and a Madonna statue is a wonderful experience and an ideal place to explore the beautiful coastal formations or snorkel in the local lagoons. You can reach the stop following this route.

Whether you have snorkeling gear with you on the island or not, it would definitely be a shame not to get acquainted with the local underwater world. The local aquarium allows you to do this comfortably, where, in addition to Mediterranean species, you can also admire exotic species, not only fish. After getting acquainted with the marine fauna, it's time for a bit of history and culture. The picturesque royal town surrounded by walls with winding stone streets, churches and palaces is the perfect place for this. You will then spend the end of the day walking along the picturesque steep cliffs, from which you can observe not only the endless surface of the Mediterranean Sea, but also the sunset. You will have it there as if it were in the palm of your hand.

In the inland town of Mosta, the local Mosta Dome rotunda (official name Santa Marija Assunta), inspired by the Roman Pantheon, is worth at least a short visit. The basilica is the largest sacred building in Malta and impresses especially with its decorated interior with a magnificent dome without supporting pillars. This can best be admired from the inner balcony, which is accessed by stairs from the church. Inside you will also find a replica of a bomb that passed through the dome during mass during World War II and miraculously did not explode, and an underground shelter used as a shelter during the war bombing.

The beautiful historical town standing on an elevated hill and surrounded by ramparts served as the island's capital for centuries. It will take you through the history of the Maltese Knights, Phoenicians, and Arabs - all of whom left their mark on the town. After entering through the bridge arching over the moat, you will be immersed in history in the local narrow cobbled streets and baroque aristocratic residences. The town is also very pedestrian-friendly, as car transport is prohibited here. This is why it has earned the nickname "Silent City".

Formerly a suburb of the royal capital Mdina, Rabat is now one of the largest inland centers in Malta. It is not as picturesque as neighboring Mdina, but given their proximity, it is worth visiting. Compared to Mdina, it is a more vibrant town with many bars and restaurants, but you will also find interesting sights, such as the St. Paul's Catacombs complex, St. Paul's Church with the famous St. Paul's Grotto, and St. Agatha's Church with other catacombs.

Lovers of sea views and sunsets will love this place. The vertical white cliffs stretching along the coast are the highest in Malta (the highest peak of Malta - Ta' Dmejrek is also located here). Walk along the cliffs to the church of St. Mary Magdalene (here) and ideally further southeast to the ruins of a Bronze Age settlement, where there is a viewpoint offering perhaps the most beautiful view of the cliffs. Sunbathing on golden sandy beaches, swimming in the clear sea or snorkeling - simply a typical summer idyll. However, if you are on the island outside the swimming season or you are not built for long lazing and lounging, the surrounding rocky coast with cliffs will surely keep you entertained. You can climb along the loose paths and crawl between the rock formations while enjoying views of the beaches and the sea below. Then all that remains is to explore the nearby archaeological sites with Neolithic temples and head to the hustle and bustle of the "big city" to experience the nightlife, so you can get to know another side of the country - an island of endless parties and entertainment.

A large part of Malta's coastline is rocky, so today will be appreciated by lovers of beaches with fine sand. The first of the trio of nearby sandy beaches, Golden Bay, is the most popular (also thanks to good accessibility and quality facilities). It is crowded in summer, it is recommended to arrive early. Your stay on the beach will be made more pleasant by the surrounding restaurants, sunshade and deckchair rental, WC, showers and changing room. You can reach the next place according to this route.
The route in the Wordlee map is not displayed correctly. Use the coastal route, which is approximately 1 km long.
The location is Ghajn Tuffieha Bay. It has a popular beach with fine sand and a gentle entry into the sea. The area is popular with surfers due to the relatively larger waves. At the same time, it is noticeably quieter than the popular Golden Bay, but it has the necessary facilities (WC, showers, sunbeds...). The rocky area between Ghajn Tuffieha and Gnejna Bay is an excellent place for hiking and will be appreciated especially by climbing enthusiasts and photo hunters. On the way along one of the paths, you will crawl around rock formations and be rewarded with beautiful views of the bay with the beach. Near the beach on the cliff you will find the bunker and the It-Torri ta' Għajn Tuffieħa watchtower (here). You can reach the next place according to this route.
I recommend extending the trip to the next bay with a circuit along the rocks on the small peninsula.
Another bay with a beach of fine golden sand is hidden between rocky limestone cliffs. Even with more difficult access, it is a less visited beach compared to the previous two. This means you will have greater comfort and privacy here. In addition to swimming in the clear sea with a gradual entry, there are also good conditions for snorkeling thanks to the rugged terrain. Necessary facilities are also available. Near the beach, you can explore the Lippia Tower defense tower.
Enough of swimming and sea views. It's time to continue exploring the island's historical gems. Another of the many archaeological sites will serve this purpose, specifically a pair of megalithic temples built from limestone coral shells, inscribed (like other monuments of this type in Malta) on the UNESCO list. Compared to the previously visited Hagar Qim or Tarxien, this is a smaller and lesser-known complex. More information here

The ruins of Skorba village, in addition to the remains of temples, also contain folk houses and are an interesting example of what life was like on the island in prehistoric times, including insights into the customs and traditions of the local people. The town of San Giljan is the main nightlife center on the island. Especially its northern part, Paceville, is a hub of entertainment and luxury. From the main Maltese island by ferry to the neighboring island of Gozo, which is noticeably smaller, but incredibly packed with interesting places. So get up early - you have a lot to look forward to. After disembarking, move to the most beautiful beach on the island and perhaps the whole country with golden sand and the surrounding rugged terrain with mysterious caves. Before moving on to other natural beauties on the west coast - today's ruined Azure Window and a lagoon separated by a cave from the surrounding sea, it would be a shame not to explore the sights in the interior, led by the imposing megalithic temple and massive fortress. Whether you prefer lazing on sandy beaches, exploring natural beauties or historical monuments, the island of Gozo will surely enchant you.

The surrounding table mountains and rock formations are worth visiting in themselves due to the views and mysterious caves. The beach itself offers fine golden sand with a gradual entry into the water and the necessary facilities (refreshments, toilets, showers, sunbeds and umbrellas for rent).
One of the stops while wandering around the rocky surroundings of the beach offers a cave with a beautiful view of the sea and the golden sand of the local beach. You can reach it via an easy (albeit unpaved) path up directly from the beach from its eastern part, or a longer but less steep path that will take you above the cave, from which you then descend via stairs.
The place is meant to be Calypso Cave, associated with Homer's epic about Odysseus, who was held captive here by the nymph Calypso for seven years. The cave offers beautiful views of the sea and the beach.
!!ATTENTION!! At the time of writing the itinerary, the cave was closed for safety reasons. However, the surrounding view is still worth it, and the cave is located along the route to the Ggantija Temple, so you'll be passing by anyway :)
From Calypso's Cave, continue on foot along the Gozo coastal walk, then turn towards the town of Xaghra and continue to the Ggantija Temple. The entire route from the beach through the cave to the temple is here.
Another of Malta's megalithic temples (and certainly one of the most interesting and extensive) is among the oldest structures on the planet. These UNESCO-listed temple ruins get their name from the legend of the giants who supposedly built them. More information can be found here. The dominant structure of the city of Rabat (also Victoria), the capital of the island of Gozo, is this vast fortress with ramparts towering on a hill inside the city, strategically located almost in the center of the island. Its function is therefore clear - a defensive fortress with a prison. Thanks to its central location on a raised site, the citadel offers a beautiful view of all sides of the island and the sea. In addition to the fortress and ramparts themselves, you can also see the cathedral near the entrance and several museums.

The basilica is particularly interesting due to its unusual isolated location on elevated terrain without surrounding buildings. It is also notable for the space in front of the entrance to the temple, with its colourfully decorated ground bordered by walls with mosaic decorations and statues of saints. The church has become an important pilgrimage site, and a Stations of the Cross leads from it to a nearby hill.

One of the most beautiful and sought-after places in Gozo, and indeed all of Malta, is this picturesque bay surrounded by azure blue sea, steep cliffs, and a rocky, erosion-carved coastline with lagoons. The place is a paradise for adventurers, photographers, romantics, and, thanks to the rich system of underwater caves and rock formations, also for divers.
What to see here:
Fungus Rock - a distinctive rock formation emerging from the sea, separating the bay from the surrounding sea.
Dwejra Inland Sea - a lagoon connected to the surrounding sea by a cave tunnel, the main attraction of the bay after the collapse of the Azure Window. You can swim and dive in the natural saltwater lake, or sail by boat through the cave to the surrounding sea and see, among other things, the site of the collapsed Azure Window.
Collapsed Azure Window - until 2017 (when it was destroyed by erosion combined with a strong storm) there was an imposing rock arch stretching from the surrounding rocks into the sea. It is no longer there, but the place is still interesting, especially for divers exploring its remains hidden under the sea surface.
Blue Hole - a small sea "pool" near the shore created by protruding circular rock formations that separated it from the surrounding sea. In good weather you can swim here, but be careful during rough seas.

The place is meant to be the rugged coast in the narrow bay near the town of Xlendi, where you can admire the beautiful views of the rocky coast, the endless sea, and peek into the Carolina grotto cave. The bay and the area around the cave are popular diving and snorkeling locations. The surrounding Xlendi Valley is known for the occurrence of freshwater crabs. You can also relax on the local small beach nestled by the coast.
When visiting Xlendi Bay, be sure to take a walk along the south side of the bay along the cliffs on the pleasant Gozo coastal walk. This will take you to the tip of a small peninsula, where you will have wonderful views from the local watchtower surrounded by beautifully eroded rock formations. In the vicinity of the tower you will find salt pans, where salt is traditionally extracted for Malta (by evaporating sea water captured in shallow stone tanks).
Continue along the Gozo coastal walk and enjoy the views along the way.
These stunning cliffs rising vertically from the sea and stretching for several kilometers along the south coast will prepare you for a wonderful farewell to the island of Gozo and the whole of Malta. They offer incredible views of the sea and the nearby island of Malta, where you are headed. But first, enjoy a walk through this beautiful natural creation. Today is reserved for the departure home, so it's time to say goodbye to this sunny country. Depending on your departure time and preference, you can use any time to visit places in Valletta or the Three Cities that you didn't manage to visit on the day of arrival, or return to where you felt good. The island is really small and nowhere is far.
In the Three Cities area, located on the south side of the bay on two distinct peninsulas, walk through the narrow stone streets and coastal promenades, or visit some churches (e.g. St. Lawrence Cathedral). Beautiful views of the bay are offered by the fortresses Ricasoli and Saint Angelo. From here you have the capital Valletta at your fingertips. If you didn't manage to walk through Valletta on the day of arrival, you can set off to explore the other side of Grand Harbour Bay, where this city lies.
However you decide to spend your last time in Malta, thanks to the proximity of the airport and frequent connections, you can enjoy the atmosphere of the island until the last moment.

The Grand Harbour used to be an important trading center, so it is no wonder that great emphasis was placed on its protection. This is evidenced by several fortresses that guard it. One of the island's most popular natural attractions is located not far from the megalithic temples, creating a unique combination of cultural experience and stunning natural scenery. The complex of cliffs, sea caves and rock arches with blue hues caused by the surrounding sea can be viewed from several viewpoints, or you can wander around the surrounding cliffs or take a boat trip directly to the cave. The area is also popular with divers who, in addition to the rich underwater flora, also explore the sunken shipwreck.

Enjoy the setting sun and pleasant evening atmosphere in a charming fishing town with a lively promenade and many restaurants offering, of course, mainly fresh seafood. However, there are other goodies on offer, such as the country's popular and widespread bakeries. You can taste the local famous snack pastizzi or some of the many tempting sweets. In the picturesque harbor, you will not miss the traditional colorful boats "luzzu". If you want to enjoy nature trails along the rugged coastline, just go a little outside the city and enjoy the local white rocks and cliffs contrasting with the beautifully blue sea.
TIP: Not far from the city (approx. 3 km) lies one of the most beautiful natural bays on the island - St. Peter's Pool. The sea is really very clean here and the water is deep. The entrance to the water is rocky and you can jump in. The place is also suitable for snorkeling. Unfortunately, no bus goes here, so you have to walk, take a taxi or try to hitchhike. Maybe you will meet some tourists or locals who will have a ride and a place in the car :) The location is here.

Follow in the footsteps of Popeye the Sailor and see the sets built to film the popular comic about this strong sailor. Later, head out to sea on the nearby long beach and relax your body before the subsequent march. During it, you will walk around the most remote tip of the island, where you will be greeted by breathtaking natural scenery offered by the local rugged coastline with sea caves, secluded bays and white cliffs. If you have snorkeling gear with you, this place is the right one. Then end the evening where you spent the whole day, by the sea. While strolling along the pleasant promenade, enjoy the coastal breeze and soak up the vibrant evening atmosphere.

The village of Popeye the Sailor, the legendary comic book character, provided the backdrop for the film adaptation of this spinach lover. Today it is used as an attraction especially for children, but adults, especially fans of this comic, will also appreciate it. It serves as an amusement park with film sets. Locally known as Ghadira Bay, it is a long sandy beach with a gentle entry into the sea. Add to this good accessibility directly along the main road on the bus route to the port of Cirkewwa and the necessary facilities (showers, toilets, restaurants, sunbeds...), it is not surprising that it is popular with locals and tourists alike. However, you can definitely find nicer beaches, like the next one :)

No buses go directly to Armier Bay. From the nearest stop, Ahrax, on the main road near the roundabout, head east along the coast following this route.
This more remote beach (or rather two interconnected beaches) is more secluded compared to Ghadira Bay, and you have to walk or drive to it without a car. However, this means it is not as popular and is therefore more natural and, above all, emptier. However, the necessary facilities are available. In addition to swimming in the clear sea with a beautiful sandy beach, you can also enjoy views of the nearby islands of Comino and Gozo. The surrounding rugged coastline is also ideal for snorkeling. You can walk to the next place according to this route.
The location refers to the northernmost tip of the island of Malta with the Dragonara Cave. Exploring the entire eastern coast of the promontory with Għar iċ-Ċomb bay, another cave or church, and a Madonna statue is a wonderful experience and an ideal place to explore the beautiful coastal formations or snorkel in the local lagoons. You can reach the stop following this route.

Whether you have snorkeling gear with you on the island or not, it would definitely be a shame not to get acquainted with the local underwater world. The local aquarium allows you to do this comfortably, where, in addition to Mediterranean species, you can also admire exotic species, not only fish. After getting acquainted with the marine fauna, it's time for a bit of history and culture. The picturesque royal town surrounded by walls with winding stone streets, churches and palaces is the perfect place for this. You will then spend the end of the day walking along the picturesque steep cliffs, from which you can observe not only the endless surface of the Mediterranean Sea, but also the sunset. You will have it there as if it were in the palm of your hand.

In the inland town of Mosta, the local Mosta Dome rotunda (official name Santa Marija Assunta), inspired by the Roman Pantheon, is worth at least a short visit. The basilica is the largest sacred building in Malta and impresses especially with its decorated interior with a magnificent dome without supporting pillars. This can best be admired from the inner balcony, which is accessed by stairs from the church. Inside you will also find a replica of a bomb that passed through the dome during mass during World War II and miraculously did not explode, and an underground shelter used as a shelter during the war bombing.

The beautiful historical town standing on an elevated hill and surrounded by ramparts served as the island's capital for centuries. It will take you through the history of the Maltese Knights, Phoenicians, and Arabs - all of whom left their mark on the town. After entering through the bridge arching over the moat, you will be immersed in history in the local narrow cobbled streets and baroque aristocratic residences. The town is also very pedestrian-friendly, as car transport is prohibited here. This is why it has earned the nickname "Silent City".

Formerly a suburb of the royal capital Mdina, Rabat is now one of the largest inland centers in Malta. It is not as picturesque as neighboring Mdina, but given their proximity, it is worth visiting. Compared to Mdina, it is a more vibrant town with many bars and restaurants, but you will also find interesting sights, such as the St. Paul's Catacombs complex, St. Paul's Church with the famous St. Paul's Grotto, and St. Agatha's Church with other catacombs.

Lovers of sea views and sunsets will love this place. The vertical white cliffs stretching along the coast are the highest in Malta (the highest peak of Malta - Ta' Dmejrek is also located here). Walk along the cliffs to the church of St. Mary Magdalene (here) and ideally further southeast to the ruins of a Bronze Age settlement, where there is a viewpoint offering perhaps the most beautiful view of the cliffs. Sunbathing on golden sandy beaches, swimming in the clear sea or snorkeling - simply a typical summer idyll. However, if you are on the island outside the swimming season or you are not built for long lazing and lounging, the surrounding rocky coast with cliffs will surely keep you entertained. You can climb along the loose paths and crawl between the rock formations while enjoying views of the beaches and the sea below. Then all that remains is to explore the nearby archaeological sites with Neolithic temples and head to the hustle and bustle of the "big city" to experience the nightlife, so you can get to know another side of the country - an island of endless parties and entertainment.

A large part of Malta's coastline is rocky, so today will be appreciated by lovers of beaches with fine sand. The first of the trio of nearby sandy beaches, Golden Bay, is the most popular (also thanks to good accessibility and quality facilities). It is crowded in summer, it is recommended to arrive early. Your stay on the beach will be made more pleasant by the surrounding restaurants, sunshade and deckchair rental, WC, showers and changing room. You can reach the next place according to this route.

The location is Ghajn Tuffieha Bay. It has a popular beach with fine sand and a gentle entry into the sea. The area is popular with surfers due to the relatively larger waves. At the same time, it is noticeably quieter than the popular Golden Bay, but it has the necessary facilities (WC, showers, sunbeds...). The rocky area between Ghajn Tuffieha and Gnejna Bay is an excellent place for hiking and will be appreciated especially by climbing enthusiasts and photo hunters. On the way along one of the paths, you will crawl around rock formations and be rewarded with beautiful views of the bay with the beach. Near the beach on the cliff you will find the bunker and the It-Torri ta' Għajn Tuffieħa watchtower (here). You can reach the next place according to this route.
I recommend extending the trip to the next bay with a circuit along the rocks on the small peninsula.
Another bay with a beach of fine golden sand is hidden between rocky limestone cliffs. Even with more difficult access, it is a less visited beach compared to the previous two. This means you will have greater comfort and privacy here. In addition to swimming in the clear sea with a gradual entry, there are also good conditions for snorkeling thanks to the rugged terrain. Necessary facilities are also available. Near the beach, you can explore the Lippia Tower defense tower.
Enough of swimming and sea views. It's time to continue exploring the island's historical gems. Another of the many archaeological sites will serve this purpose, specifically a pair of megalithic temples built from limestone coral shells, inscribed (like other monuments of this type in Malta) on the UNESCO list. Compared to the previously visited Hagar Qim or Tarxien, this is a smaller and lesser-known complex. More information here

Just nearby, you'll find another megalithic monument (also a UNESCO World Heritage site). The ruins of Skorba village, in addition to the remains of temples, also contain folk houses and are an interesting example of what life was like on the island in prehistoric times, including insights into the customs and traditions of the local people. So get up early - you have a lot to look forward to. After disembarking, move to the most beautiful beach on the island and perhaps the whole country with golden sand and the surrounding rugged terrain with mysterious caves. Before moving on to other natural beauties on the west coast - today's ruined Azure Window and a lagoon separated by a cave from the surrounding sea, it would be a shame not to explore the sights in the interior, led by the imposing megalithic temple and massive fortress. Whether you prefer lazing on sandy beaches, exploring natural beauties or historical monuments, the island of Gozo will surely enchant you.

One of the most beautiful beaches not only in Gozo but in Malta in general is located in a beautiful bay hidden between rocky peaks with various colorful shades thanks to the diverse geological subsoil. The surrounding table mountains and rock formations are worth visiting in themselves due to the views and mysterious caves. The beach itself offers fine golden sand with a gradual entry into the water and the necessary facilities (refreshments, toilets, showers, sunbeds and umbrellas for rent).
One of the stops while wandering around the rocky surroundings of the beach offers a cave with a beautiful view of the sea and the golden sand of the local beach. You can reach it via an easy (albeit unpaved) path up directly from the beach from its eastern part, or a longer but less steep path that will take you above the cave, from which you then descend via stairs.
The place is meant to be Calypso Cave, associated with Homer's epic about Odysseus, who was held captive here by the nymph Calypso for seven years. The cave offers beautiful views of the sea and the beach.
!!ATTENTION!! At the time of writing the itinerary, the cave was closed for safety reasons. However, the surrounding view is still worth it, and the cave is located along the route to the Ggantija Temple, so you'll be passing by anyway :)
From Calypso's Cave, continue on foot along the Gozo coastal walk, then turn towards the town of Xaghra and continue to the Ggantija Temple. The entire route from the beach through the cave to the temple is here.
Another of Malta's megalithic temples (and certainly one of the most interesting and extensive) is among the oldest structures on the planet. These UNESCO-listed temple ruins get their name from the legend of the giants who supposedly built them. More information can be found here. The dominant structure of the city of Rabat (also Victoria), the capital of the island of Gozo, is this vast fortress with ramparts towering on a hill inside the city, strategically located almost in the center of the island. Its function is therefore clear - a defensive fortress with a prison. Thanks to its central location on a raised site, the citadel offers a beautiful view of all sides of the island and the sea. In addition to the fortress and ramparts themselves, you can also see the cathedral near the entrance and several museums.

The basilica is particularly interesting due to its unusual isolated location on elevated terrain without surrounding buildings. It is also notable for the space in front of the entrance to the temple, with its colourfully decorated ground bordered by walls with mosaic decorations and statues of saints. The church has become an important pilgrimage site, and a Stations of the Cross leads from it to a nearby hill.

One of the most beautiful and sought-after places in Gozo, and indeed all of Malta, is this picturesque bay surrounded by azure blue sea, steep cliffs, and a rocky, erosion-carved coastline with lagoons. The place is a paradise for adventurers, photographers, romantics, and, thanks to the rich system of underwater caves and rock formations, also for divers.
What to see here:
Fungus Rock - a distinctive rock formation emerging from the sea, separating the bay from the surrounding sea.
Dwejra Inland Sea - a lagoon connected to the surrounding sea by a cave tunnel, the main attraction of the bay after the collapse of the Azure Window. You can swim and dive in the natural saltwater lake, or sail by boat through the cave to the surrounding sea and see, among other things, the site of the collapsed Azure Window.
Collapsed Azure Window - until 2017 (when it was destroyed by erosion combined with a strong storm) there was an imposing rock arch stretching from the surrounding rocks into the sea. It is no longer there, but the place is still interesting, especially for divers exploring its remains hidden under the sea surface.
Blue Hole - a small sea "pool" near the shore created by protruding circular rock formations that separated it from the surrounding sea. In good weather you can swim here, but be careful during rough seas.

The place is meant to be the rugged coast in the narrow bay near the town of Xlendi, where you can admire the beautiful views of the rocky coast, the endless sea, and peek into the Carolina grotto cave. The bay and the area around the cave are popular diving and snorkeling locations. The surrounding Xlendi Valley is known for the occurrence of freshwater crabs. You can also relax on the local small beach nestled by the coast.
When visiting Xlendi Bay, be sure to take a walk along the south side of the bay along the cliffs on the pleasant Gozo coastal walk. This will take you to the tip of a small peninsula, where you will have wonderful views from the local watchtower surrounded by beautifully eroded rock formations. In the vicinity of the tower you will find salt pans, where salt is traditionally extracted for Malta (by evaporating sea water captured in shallow stone tanks).
Continue along the Gozo coastal walk and enjoy the views along the way.
These stunning cliffs rising vertically from the sea and stretching for several kilometers along the south coast will prepare you for a wonderful farewell to the island of Gozo and the whole of Malta. Today is reserved for the departure home, so it's time to say goodbye to this sunny country. Depending on your departure time and preference, you can use any time to visit places in Valletta or the Three Cities that you didn't manage to visit on the day of arrival, or return to where you felt good. The island is really small and nowhere is far.
In the Three Cities area, located on the south side of the bay on two distinct peninsulas, walk through the narrow stone streets and coastal promenades, or visit some churches (e.g. St. Lawrence Cathedral). Beautiful views of the bay are offered by the fortresses Ricasoli and Saint Angelo. From here you have the capital Valletta at your fingertips. If you didn't manage to walk through Valletta on the day of arrival, you can set off to explore the other side of Grand Harbour Bay, where this city lies.
However you decide to spend your last time in Malta, thanks to the proximity of the airport and frequent connections, you can enjoy the atmosphere of the island until the last moment.

Despite its miniature size (smaller than Prague, for example), this Mediterranean dwarf offers a lot and you can easily have fun here for several weeks. Families with children and beach lovers will appreciate the pleasant, accessible beaches with a gradual entry into the crystal clear sea. Adventurers and photo hunters will appreciate the rugged coastline with white cliffs and hidden lagoons. History and archeology lovers will be in seventh heaven from the artifacts of ancient times and the legacy of the Knights of Malta. Couples in love will be thrilled by the romantic towns with promenades and sunsets over the coast. In the evening, you can shake your hips in a music club or sit over a drink in one of the many bars. The Grand Harbour used to be an important trading center, so it is no wonder that great emphasis was placed on its protection. This is evidenced by several fortresses that guard it. One of the island's most popular natural attractions is located not far from the megalithic temples, creating a unique combination of cultural experience and stunning natural scenery. The complex of cliffs, sea caves and rock arches with blue hues caused by the surrounding sea can be viewed from several viewpoints, or you can wander around the surrounding cliffs or take a boat trip directly to the cave. The area is also popular with divers who, in addition to the rich underwater flora, also explore the sunken shipwreck.
Boat trip: from the nearby village of Wied iż-Zurrieq, you can buy a ticket at the ticket office in the harbor (cash only), the length of the cruise is approx. 20 minutes, please note - in summer you may have to wait for a place on the boat for up to an hour

Enjoy the setting sun and pleasant evening atmosphere in a charming fishing town with a lively promenade and many restaurants offering, of course, mainly fresh seafood. However, there are other goodies on offer, such as the country's popular and widespread bakeries. You can taste the local famous snack pastizzi or some of the many tempting sweets. In the picturesque harbor, you will not miss the traditional colorful boats "luzzu". If you want to enjoy nature trails along the rugged coastline, just go a little outside the city and enjoy the local white rocks and cliffs contrasting with the beautifully blue sea.
TIP: Not far from the city (approx. 3 km) lies one of the most beautiful natural bays on the island - St. Peter's Pool. The sea is really very clean here and the water is deep. The entrance to the water is rocky and you can jump in. The place is also suitable for snorkeling. Unfortunately, no bus goes here, so you have to walk, take a taxi or try to hitchhike. Maybe you will meet some tourists or locals who will have a ride and a place in the car :) The location is here.

Later, head out to sea on the nearby long beach and relax your body before the subsequent march. During it, you will walk around the most remote tip of the island, where you will be greeted by breathtaking natural scenery offered by the local rugged coastline with sea caves, secluded bays and white cliffs. If you have snorkeling gear with you, this place is the right one. Then end the evening where you spent the whole day, by the sea. While strolling along the pleasant promenade, enjoy the coastal breeze and soak up the vibrant evening atmosphere.

The village of Popeye the Sailor, the legendary comic book character, provided the backdrop for the film adaptation of this spinach lover. Locally known as Ghadira Bay, it is a long sandy beach with a gentle entry into the sea. Add to this good accessibility directly along the main road on the bus route to the port of Cirkewwa and the necessary facilities (showers, toilets, restaurants, sunbeds...), it is not surprising that it is popular with locals and tourists alike. However, you can definitely find nicer beaches, like the next one :)

No buses go directly to Armier Bay. From the nearest stop, Ahrax, on the main road near the roundabout, head east along the coast following this route.
This more remote beach (or rather two interconnected beaches) is more secluded compared to Ghadira Bay, and you have to walk or drive to it without a car. However, this means it is not as popular and is therefore more natural and, above all, emptier. However, the necessary facilities are available. In addition to swimming in the clear sea with a beautiful sandy beach, you can also enjoy views of the nearby islands of Comino and Gozo. The surrounding rugged coastline is also ideal for snorkeling. You can walk to the next place according to this route.
The location refers to the northernmost tip of the island of Malta with the Dragonara Cave. Exploring the entire eastern coast of the promontory with Għar iċ-Ċomb bay, another cave or church, and a Madonna statue is a wonderful experience and an ideal place to explore the beautiful coastal formations or snorkel in the local lagoons. The local aquarium allows you to do this comfortably, where, in addition to Mediterranean species, you can also admire exotic species, not only fish. The picturesque royal town surrounded by walls with winding stone streets, churches and palaces is the perfect place for this. In the inland town of Mosta, the local Mosta Dome rotunda (official name Santa Marija Assunta), inspired by the Roman Pantheon, is worth at least a short visit. The basilica is the largest sacred building in Malta and impresses especially with its decorated interior with a magnificent dome without supporting pillars. This can best be admired from the inner balcony, which is accessed by stairs from the church. Inside you will also find a replica of a bomb that passed through the dome during mass during World War II and miraculously did not explode, and an underground shelter used as a shelter during the war bombing.

The beautiful historical town standing on an elevated hill and surrounded by ramparts served as the island's capital for centuries. It will take you through the history of the Maltese Knights, Phoenicians, and Arabs - all of whom left their mark on the town. After entering through the bridge arching over the moat, you will be immersed in history in the local narrow cobbled streets and baroque aristocratic residences. The town is also very pedestrian-friendly, as car transport is prohibited here. This is why it has earned the nickname "Silent City".

Formerly a suburb of the royal capital Mdina, Rabat is now one of the largest inland centers in Malta. It is not as picturesque as neighboring Mdina, but given their proximity, it is worth visiting. Compared to Mdina, it is a more vibrant town with many bars and restaurants, but you will also find interesting sights, such as the St. Paul's Catacombs complex, St. Paul's Church with the famous St. Paul's Grotto, and St. Agatha's Church with other catacombs.

Lovers of sea views and sunsets will love this place. The vertical white cliffs stretching along the coast are the highest in Malta (the highest peak of Malta - Ta' Dmejrek is also located here). Walk along the cliffs to the church of St. Mary Magdalene (here) and ideally further southeast to the ruins of a Bronze Age settlement, where there is a viewpoint offering perhaps the most beautiful view of the cliffs. Sunbathing on golden sandy beaches, swimming in the clear sea or snorkeling - simply a typical summer idyll. However, if you are on the island outside the swimming season or you are not built for long lazing and lounging, the surrounding rocky coast with cliffs will surely keep you entertained. You can climb along the loose paths and crawl between the rock formations while enjoying views of the beaches and the sea below. Then all that remains is to explore the nearby archaeological sites with Neolithic temples and head to the hustle and bustle of the "big city" to experience the nightlife, so you can get to know another side of the country - an island of endless parties and entertainment.

A large part of Malta's coastline is rocky, so today will be appreciated by lovers of beaches with fine sand. The first of the trio of nearby sandy beaches, Golden Bay, is the most popular (also thanks to good accessibility and quality facilities). It is crowded in summer, it is recommended to arrive early. Your stay on the beach will be made more pleasant by the surrounding restaurants, sunshade and deckchair rental, WC, showers and changing room. You can reach the next place according to this route.

The location is Ghajn Tuffieha Bay. It has a popular beach with fine sand and a gentle entry into the sea. The area is popular with surfers due to the relatively larger waves. At the same time, it is noticeably quieter than the popular Golden Bay, but it has the necessary facilities (WC, showers, sunbeds...). The rocky area between Ghajn Tuffieha and Gnejna Bay is an excellent place for hiking and will be appreciated especially by climbing enthusiasts and photo hunters. On the way along one of the paths, you will crawl around rock formations and be rewarded with beautiful views of the bay with the beach. Near the beach on the cliff you will find the bunker and the It-Torri ta' Għajn Tuffieħa watchtower (here). You can reach the next place according to this route.
I recommend extending the trip to the next bay with a circuit along the rocks on the small peninsula.
Another bay with a beach of fine golden sand is hidden between rocky limestone cliffs. Even with more difficult access, it is a less visited beach compared to the previous two. This means you will have greater comfort and privacy here. In addition to swimming in the clear sea with a gradual entry, there are also good conditions for snorkeling thanks to the rugged terrain. Necessary facilities are also available. Near the beach, you can explore the Lippia Tower defense tower.
Enough of swimming and sea views. It's time to continue exploring the island's historical gems. Another of the many archaeological sites will serve this purpose, specifically a pair of megalithic temples built from limestone coral shells, inscribed (like other monuments of this type in Malta) on the UNESCO list. Compared to the previously visited Hagar Qim or Tarxien, this is a smaller and lesser-known complex. More information here

Before moving on to other natural beauties on the west coast - today's ruined Azure Window and a lagoon separated by a cave from the surrounding sea, it would be a shame not to explore the sights in the interior, led by the imposing megalithic temple and massive fortress. Whether you prefer lazing on sandy beaches, exploring natural beauties or historical monuments, the island of Gozo will surely enchant you.

One of the most beautiful beaches not only in Gozo but in Malta in general is located in a beautiful bay hidden between rocky peaks with various colorful shades thanks to the diverse geological subsoil. The surrounding table mountains and rock formations are worth visiting in themselves due to the views and mysterious caves. The beach itself offers fine golden sand with a gradual entry into the water and the necessary facilities (refreshments, toilets, showers, sunbeds and umbrellas for rent).
One of the stops while wandering around the rocky surroundings of the beach offers a cave with a beautiful view of the sea and the golden sand of the local beach. You can reach it via an easy (albeit unpaved) path up directly from the beach from its eastern part, or a longer but less steep path that will take you above the cave, from which you then descend via stairs.
The place is meant to be Calypso Cave, associated with Homer's epic about Odysseus, who was held captive here by the nymph Calypso for seven years. The cave offers beautiful views of the sea and the beach.
!!ATTENTION!! At the time of writing the itinerary, the cave was closed for safety reasons. However, the surrounding view is still worth it, and the cave is located along the route to the Ggantija Temple, so you'll be passing by anyway :)
From Calypso's Cave, continue on foot along the Gozo coastal walk, then turn towards the town of Xaghra and continue to the Ggantija Temple. The entire route from the beach through the cave to the temple is here.
Another of Malta's megalithic temples (and certainly one of the most interesting and extensive) is among the oldest structures on the planet. These UNESCO-listed temple ruins get their name from the legend of the giants who supposedly built them. More information can be found here. The dominant structure of the city of Rabat (also Victoria), the capital of the island of Gozo, is this vast fortress with ramparts towering on a hill inside the city, strategically located almost in the center of the island. Its function is therefore clear - a defensive fortress with a prison. Thanks to its central location on a raised site, the citadel offers a beautiful view of all sides of the island and the sea. In addition to the fortress and ramparts themselves, you can also see the cathedral near the entrance and several museums.

One of the most beautiful and sought-after places in Gozo, and indeed all of Malta, is this picturesque bay surrounded by azure blue sea, steep cliffs, and a rocky, erosion-carved coastline with lagoons. The place is a paradise for adventurers, photographers, romantics, and, thanks to the rich system of underwater caves and rock formations, also for divers.
What to see here:
Fungus Rock - a distinctive rock formation emerging from the sea, separating the bay from the surrounding sea.
Dwejra Inland Sea - a lagoon connected to the surrounding sea by a cave tunnel, the main attraction of the bay after the collapse of the Azure Window. You can swim and dive in the natural saltwater lake, or sail by boat through the cave to the surrounding sea and see, among other things, the site of the collapsed Azure Window.
Collapsed Azure Window - until 2017 (when it was destroyed by erosion combined with a strong storm) there was an imposing rock arch stretching from the surrounding rocks into the sea. It is no longer there, but the place is still interesting, especially for divers exploring its remains hidden under the sea surface.
Blue Hole - a small sea "pool" near the shore created by protruding circular rock formations that separated it from the surrounding sea. In good weather you can swim here, but be careful during rough seas.

The place is meant to be the rugged coast in the narrow bay near the town of Xlendi, where you can admire the beautiful views of the rocky coast, the endless sea, and peek into the Carolina grotto cave. The bay and the area around the cave are popular diving and snorkeling locations. The surrounding Xlendi Valley is known for the occurrence of freshwater crabs. You can also relax on the local small beach nestled by the coast.
When visiting Xlendi Bay, be sure to take a walk along the south side of the bay along the cliffs on the pleasant Gozo coastal walk. This will take you to the tip of a small peninsula, where you will have wonderful views from the local watchtower surrounded by beautifully eroded rock formations. In the vicinity of the tower you will find salt pans, where salt is traditionally extracted for Malta (by evaporating sea water captured in shallow stone tanks).

Today is reserved for the departure home, so it's time to say goodbye to this sunny country. Depending on your departure time and preference, you can use any time to visit places in Valletta or the Three Cities that you didn't manage to visit on the day of arrival, or return to where you felt good. The island is really small and nowhere is far.
In the Three Cities area, located on the south side of the bay on two distinct peninsulas, walk through the narrow stone streets and coastal promenades, or visit some churches (e.g. St. Lawrence Cathedral). Beautiful views of the bay are offered by the fortresses Ricasoli and Saint Angelo. From here you have the capital Valletta at your fingertips. If you didn't manage to walk through Valletta on the day of arrival, you can set off to explore the other side of Grand Harbour Bay, where this city lies.
However you decide to spend your last time in Malta, thanks to the proximity of the airport and frequent connections, you can enjoy the atmosphere of the island until the last moment.

In the small center of the capital city of Valletta (mostly built in the 16th century by the Order of the Knights of Malta), a UNESCO World Heritage Site surrounded by walls, you will find a pleasant atmosphere of a small coastal town with many sights. The Grand Harbour used to be an important trading center, so it is no wonder that great emphasis was placed on its protection. This is evidenced by several fortresses that guard it. One of them, Fort Saint Elmo (details on the visit here), stands on the western side of the harbor in the capital Valletta. One of the island's most popular natural attractions is located not far from the megalithic temples, creating a unique combination of cultural experience and stunning natural scenery. The complex of cliffs, sea caves and rock arches with blue hues caused by the surrounding sea can be viewed from several viewpoints, or you can wander around the surrounding cliffs or take a boat trip directly to the cave. The area is also popular with divers who, in addition to the rich underwater flora, also explore the sunken shipwreck.

Enjoy the setting sun and pleasant evening atmosphere in a charming fishing town with a lively promenade and many restaurants offering, of course, mainly fresh seafood. However, there are other goodies on offer, such as the country's popular and widespread bakeries. You can taste the local famous snack pastizzi or some of the many tempting sweets. In the picturesque harbor, you will not miss the traditional colorful boats "luzzu". If you want to enjoy nature trails along the rugged coastline, just go a little outside the city and enjoy the local white rocks and cliffs contrasting with the beautifully blue sea.
TIP: Not far from the city (approx. 3 km) lies one of the most beautiful natural bays on the island - St. Peter's Pool. The sea is really very clean here and the water is deep. The entrance to the water is rocky and you can jump in. The place is also suitable for snorkeling. Unfortunately, no bus goes here, so you have to walk, take a taxi or try to hitchhike. Maybe you will meet some tourists or locals who will have a ride and a place in the car :) The location is here.

Follow in the footsteps of Popeye the Sailor and see the sets built to film the popular comic about this strong sailor. Later, head out to sea on the nearby long beach and relax your body before the subsequent march. During it, you will walk around the most remote tip of the island, where you will be greeted by breathtaking natural scenery offered by the local rugged coastline with sea caves, secluded bays and white cliffs. If you have snorkeling gear with you, this place is the right one. Then end the evening where you spent the whole day, by the sea. While strolling along the pleasant promenade, enjoy the coastal breeze and soak up the vibrant evening atmosphere.

The village of Popeye the Sailor, the legendary comic book character, provided the backdrop for the film adaptation of this spinach lover. Today it is used as an attraction especially for children, but adults, especially fans of this comic, will also appreciate it. It serves as an amusement park with film sets. Locally known as Ghadira Bay, it is a long sandy beach with a gentle entry into the sea. Add to this good accessibility directly along the main road on the bus route to the port of Cirkewwa and the necessary facilities (showers, toilets, restaurants, sunbeds...), it is not surprising that it is popular with locals and tourists alike. However, you can definitely find nicer beaches, like the next one :)

No buses go directly to Armier Bay. From the nearest stop, Ahrax, on the main road near the roundabout, head east along the coast following this route.
This more remote beach (or rather two interconnected beaches) is more secluded compared to Ghadira Bay, and you have to walk or drive to it without a car. However, this means it is not as popular and is therefore more natural and, above all, emptier. However, the necessary facilities are available. In addition to swimming in the clear sea with a beautiful sandy beach, you can also enjoy views of the nearby islands of Comino and Gozo. The surrounding rugged coastline is also ideal for snorkeling. You can walk to the next place according to this route.
The location refers to the northernmost tip of the island of Malta with the Dragonara Cave. Exploring the entire eastern coast of the promontory with Għar iċ-Ċomb bay, another cave or church, and a Madonna statue is a wonderful experience and an ideal place to explore the beautiful coastal formations or snorkel in the local lagoons. Whether you have snorkeling gear with you on the island or not, it would definitely be a shame not to get acquainted with the local underwater world. The local aquarium allows you to do this comfortably, where, in addition to Mediterranean species, you can also admire exotic species, not only fish. After getting acquainted with the marine fauna, it's time for a bit of history and culture. The picturesque royal town surrounded by walls with winding stone streets, churches and palaces is the perfect place for this. You will then spend the end of the day walking along the picturesque steep cliffs, from which you can observe not only the endless surface of the Mediterranean Sea, but also the sunset. You will have it there as if it were in the palm of your hand.

In the inland town of Mosta, the local Mosta Dome rotunda (official name Santa Marija Assunta), inspired by the Roman Pantheon, is worth at least a short visit. The basilica is the largest sacred building in Malta and impresses especially with its decorated interior with a magnificent dome without supporting pillars. This can best be admired from the inner balcony, which is accessed by stairs from the church. Inside you will also find a replica of a bomb that passed through the dome during mass during World War II and miraculously did not explode, and an underground shelter used as a shelter during the war bombing.

The beautiful historical town standing on an elevated hill and surrounded by ramparts served as the island's capital for centuries. It will take you through the history of the Maltese Knights, Phoenicians, and Arabs - all of whom left their mark on the town. After entering through the bridge arching over the moat, you will be immersed in history in the local narrow cobbled streets and baroque aristocratic residences. The town is also very pedestrian-friendly, as car transport is prohibited here. This is why it has earned the nickname "Silent City".

Formerly a suburb of the royal capital Mdina, Rabat is now one of the largest inland centers in Malta. It is not as picturesque as neighboring Mdina, but given their proximity, it is worth visiting. Compared to Mdina, it is a more vibrant town with many bars and restaurants, but you will also find interesting sights, such as the St. Paul's Catacombs complex, St. Paul's Church with the famous St. Paul's Grotto, and St. Agatha's Church with other catacombs.

Lovers of sea views and sunsets will love this place. The vertical white cliffs stretching along the coast are the highest in Malta (the highest peak of Malta - Ta' Dmejrek is also located here). Walk along the cliffs to the church of St. Mary Magdalene (here) and ideally further southeast to the ruins of a Bronze Age settlement, where there is a viewpoint offering perhaps the most beautiful view of the cliffs. Sunbathing on golden sandy beaches, swimming in the clear sea or snorkeling - simply a typical summer idyll. However, if you are on the island outside the swimming season or you are not built for long lazing and lounging, the surrounding rocky coast with cliffs will surely keep you entertained. You can climb along the loose paths and crawl between the rock formations while enjoying views of the beaches and the sea below. Then all that remains is to explore the nearby archaeological sites with Neolithic temples and head to the hustle and bustle of the "big city" to experience the nightlife, so you can get to know another side of the country - an island of endless parties and entertainment.

A large part of Malta's coastline is rocky, so today will be appreciated by lovers of beaches with fine sand. The first of the trio of nearby sandy beaches, Golden Bay, is the most popular (also thanks to good accessibility and quality facilities). It is crowded in summer, it is recommended to arrive early. Your stay on the beach will be made more pleasant by the surrounding restaurants, sunshade and deckchair rental, WC, showers and changing room. You can reach the next place according to this route.

The location is Ghajn Tuffieha Bay. It has a popular beach with fine sand and a gentle entry into the sea. The area is popular with surfers due to the relatively larger waves. At the same time, it is noticeably quieter than the popular Golden Bay, but it has the necessary facilities (WC, showers, sunbeds...). The rocky area between Ghajn Tuffieha and Gnejna Bay is an excellent place for hiking and will be appreciated especially by climbing enthusiasts and photo hunters. On the way along one of the paths, you will crawl around rock formations and be rewarded with beautiful views of the bay with the beach. Near the beach on the cliff you will find the bunker and the It-Torri ta' Għajn Tuffieħa watchtower (here). You can reach the next place according to this route.
I recommend extending the trip to the next bay with a circuit along the rocks on the small peninsula.
Another bay with a beach of fine golden sand is hidden between rocky limestone cliffs. Even with more difficult access, it is a less visited beach compared to the previous two. This means you will have greater comfort and privacy here. In addition to swimming in the clear sea with a gradual entry, there are also good conditions for snorkeling thanks to the rugged terrain. Necessary facilities are also available. Near the beach, you can explore the Lippia Tower defense tower.
Enough of swimming and sea views. It's time to continue exploring the island's historical gems. Another of the many archaeological sites will serve this purpose, specifically a pair of megalithic temples built from limestone coral shells, inscribed (like other monuments of this type in Malta) on the UNESCO list. Just nearby, you'll find another megalithic monument (also a UNESCO World Heritage site). The ruins of Skorba village, in addition to the remains of temples, also contain folk houses and are an interesting example of what life was like on the island in prehistoric times, including insights into the customs and traditions of the local people. The town of San Giljan is the main nightlife center on the island. Especially its northern part, Paceville, is a hub of entertainment and luxury. From the main Maltese island by ferry to the neighboring island of Gozo, which is noticeably smaller, but incredibly packed with interesting places. So get up early - you have a lot to look forward to. After disembarking, move to the most beautiful beach on the island and perhaps the whole country with golden sand and the surrounding rugged terrain with mysterious caves. Before moving on to other natural beauties on the west coast - today's ruined Azure Window and a lagoon separated by a cave from the surrounding sea, it would be a shame not to explore the sights in the interior, led by the imposing megalithic temple and massive fortress. Whether you prefer lazing on sandy beaches, exploring natural beauties or historical monuments, the island of Gozo will surely enchant you.

One of the most beautiful beaches not only in Gozo but in Malta in general is located in a beautiful bay hidden between rocky peaks with various colorful shades thanks to the diverse geological subsoil. The surrounding table mountains and rock formations are worth visiting in themselves due to the views and mysterious caves. The beach itself offers fine golden sand with a gradual entry into the water and the necessary facilities (refreshments, toilets, showers, sunbeds and umbrellas for rent).
One of the stops while wandering around the rocky surroundings of the beach offers a cave with a beautiful view of the sea and the golden sand of the local beach. You can reach it via an easy (albeit unpaved) path up directly from the beach from its eastern part, or a longer but less steep path that will take you above the cave, from which you then descend via stairs.
The place is meant to be Calypso Cave, associated with Homer's epic about Odysseus, who was held captive here by the nymph Calypso for seven years. The cave offers beautiful views of the sea and the beach.
!!ATTENTION!! At the time of writing the itinerary, the cave was closed for safety reasons. However, the surrounding view is still worth it, and the cave is located along the route to the Ggantija Temple, so you'll be passing by anyway :)
From Calypso's Cave, continue on foot along the Gozo coastal walk, then turn towards the town of Xaghra and continue to the Ggantija Temple. The entire route from the beach through the cave to the temple is here.
Another of Malta's megalithic temples (and certainly one of the most interesting and extensive) is among the oldest structures on the planet. These UNESCO-listed temple ruins get their name from the legend of the giants who supposedly built them. More information can be found here. The dominant structure of the city of Rabat (also Victoria), the capital of the island of Gozo, is this vast fortress with ramparts towering on a hill inside the city, strategically located almost in the center of the island. Its function is therefore clear - a defensive fortress with a prison. Thanks to its central location on a raised site, the citadel offers a beautiful view of all sides of the island and the sea. In addition to the fortress and ramparts themselves, you can also see the cathedral near the entrance and several museums.

The basilica is particularly interesting due to its unusual isolated location on elevated terrain without surrounding buildings. It is also notable for the space in front of the entrance to the temple, with its colourfully decorated ground bordered by walls with mosaic decorations and statues of saints. The church has become an important pilgrimage site, and a Stations of the Cross leads from it to a nearby hill.

One of the most beautiful and sought-after places in Gozo, and indeed all of Malta, is this picturesque bay surrounded by azure blue sea, steep cliffs, and a rocky, erosion-carved coastline with lagoons. The place is a paradise for adventurers, photographers, romantics, and, thanks to the rich system of underwater caves and rock formations, also for divers.
What to see here:
Fungus Rock - a distinctive rock formation emerging from the sea, separating the bay from the surrounding sea.
Dwejra Inland Sea - a lagoon connected to the surrounding sea by a cave tunnel, the main attraction of the bay after the collapse of the Azure Window. You can swim and dive in the natural saltwater lake, or sail by boat through the cave to the surrounding sea and see, among other things, the site of the collapsed Azure Window.
Collapsed Azure Window - until 2017 (when it was destroyed by erosion combined with a strong storm) there was an imposing rock arch stretching from the surrounding rocks into the sea. It is no longer there, but the place is still interesting, especially for divers exploring its remains hidden under the sea surface.
Blue Hole - a small sea "pool" near the shore created by protruding circular rock formations that separated it from the surrounding sea. In good weather you can swim here, but be careful during rough seas.

The place is meant to be the rugged coast in the narrow bay near the town of Xlendi, where you can admire the beautiful views of the rocky coast, the endless sea, and peek into the Carolina grotto cave. The bay and the area around the cave are popular diving and snorkeling locations. The surrounding Xlendi Valley is known for the occurrence of freshwater crabs. You can also relax on the local small beach nestled by the coast.
When visiting Xlendi Bay, be sure to take a walk along the south side of the bay along the cliffs on the pleasant Gozo coastal walk. This will take you to the tip of a small peninsula, where you will have wonderful views from the local watchtower surrounded by beautifully eroded rock formations. In the vicinity of the tower you will find salt pans, where salt is traditionally extracted for Malta (by evaporating sea water captured in shallow stone tanks).
Continue along the Gozo coastal walk and enjoy the views along the way.
These stunning cliffs rising vertically from the sea and stretching for several kilometers along the south coast will prepare you for a wonderful farewell to the island of Gozo and the whole of Malta. They offer incredible views of the sea and the nearby island of Malta, where you are headed. But first, enjoy a walk through this beautiful natural creation. Continue along the stunning Gozo coastal walk and enjoy the views. After about 1.5 km of road following the coast, the route turns into the town of Sannat. In it, go to the Saguna stop and wait for the bus.

Today is reserved for the departure home, so it's time to say goodbye to this sunny country. Depending on your departure time and preference, you can use any time to visit places in Valletta or the Three Cities that you didn't manage to visit on the day of arrival, or return to where you felt good. The island is really small and nowhere is far.
In the Three Cities area, located on the south side of the bay on two distinct peninsulas, walk through the narrow stone streets and coastal promenades, or visit some churches (e.g. St. Lawrence Cathedral). Beautiful views of the bay are offered by the fortresses Ricasoli and Saint Angelo. From here you have the capital Valletta at your fingertips. If you didn't manage to walk through Valletta on the day of arrival, you can set off to explore the other side of Grand Harbour Bay, where this city lies.
However you decide to spend your last time in Malta, thanks to the proximity of the airport and frequent connections, you can enjoy the atmosphere of the island until the last moment.
