Do you love traveling and discovering new places? Head to Lithuania, a country that will surprise you not only with its cleanliness and tidiness, but also with its abundance of natural attractions, architecture, and historical sites. During your trip, you won't encounter crowds of tourists or stand in lines at the ticket office or on the ferry. You will experience a peaceful vacation and have a much greater experience from each place you visit. You will be enchanted by the beautiful green landscape, visit UNESCO monuments, a national park, sand dunes, and have the opportunity to spend romantic moments by the Baltic Sea at sunset.
Your journey begins with arrival in Vilnius. Pick up your car and transfer to the hotel. If you have time left, go for your first acquaintance with the metropolis. Start by exploring the historical center, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You can visit local restaurants to taste Lithuanian specialties. The national dish of Lithuania is cepelinai, large potato dumplings filled with minced meat, curd or mushrooms, served with cream and cracklings. I can also recommend bulviniai blynai, traditional Lithuanian potato pancakes, which are very similar to Czech bramborák.
Upon arrival, collect your luggage and head to the car rental (according to the instructions you will receive before departure). The journey from the airport to the hotel will be short.

In the capital of Lithuania. You will walk through the historical center (in 1994 inscribed on the UNESCO list) and visit a number of monuments. I was absolutely thrilled with Vilnius. The city is beautiful, clean and without the pressure of tourists.
Today, you'll start your city tour right next to the hotel at the Gate of Dawn (or Sharp Gate), one of Vilnius's most important historical, cultural, and religious monuments. Then, you'll walk past the town hall, located on Town Hall Square. Today, the town hall serves as a representative space and is used during visits by foreign dignitaries, including George Walker Bush and Queen Elizabeth II.

Your steps continue towards the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania and St. Stanislaus Cathedral. It is located in the historical city center near Cathedral Square. Many important figures are buried inside the cathedral. You can also visit the National Museum near the square.

Just a few steps from the Cathedral Square, you can visit Gediminas' Tower. The castle is one of the most important historical monuments of Lithuania. It was built in the 15th century and served as a royal residence and defensive fortress. Its most prominent part is Gediminas' Tower, which is a symbol of the city. Go up the stairs, or use the elevator, and you will have a wonderful view of Vilnius and its surroundings. Across the river, you will see the modern part of Vilnius with high-rise buildings.

Walk along the river and you will reach the White Bridge, a pedestrian bridge over the Neris River. It connects the historical center of the city with the modern part. The bridge offers a wonderful view of the surrounding landscape and the historical center. Your journey will continue to the Presidential Palace, to the University, which is one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in Lithuania and is even one of the oldest universities in Eastern Europe. During your travels, you can see many churches and walk through the park. Interestingly, you will find a large outdoor sports field in the city center.

You will travel to Kaunas, the second largest city in Lithuania. The journey to Kaunas will take approximately 1.5 hours. If you feel like it, I recommend stopping in Rumšiškės on the way and visiting the open-air museum. On the shores of the Kaunas Reservoir (Kauno Marios), you will see original wooden buildings and learn how people lived in Lithuania in the past. In Kaunas, it is best to park directly at the castle, where there is a large parking lot. You pay for parking at the machine. Finally, allow approximately 2.5 hours at the end of the day to travel to Klaipeda on the coast.
First, you will take a walk through the historical center. The city is beautifully clean, and you will surely be thrilled again by a city without tourists. In Kaunas, I recommend visiting Kaunas Castle, St. Peter and Paul Cathedral in Town Hall Square, and the town hall itself. I also recommend stopping at one of the local cafes or restaurants. If you are a fan of sports, you will definitely be captivated by the Lithuanian Sports Museum in the Old Town. Lithuania is home to globally successful basketball teams. Basketball is considered a national sport here. While walking around the city, you will come across several outdoor sports grounds.

After a long day, you arrive in Klaipeda and check into your accommodation. If you have time, I recommend taking a walk around the historic city. Klaipeda is the oldest city in Lithuania and is home to the largest Lithuanian port.

In the morning, head to the ferry (New Ferry Terminal) where you can buy a ticket right before boarding. It is automatically purchased as a round trip. The ferry runs every 20 minutes during the season (spring - autumn) and is in operation constantly, 24/7. The journey takes approximately 5 minutes. The Curonian Spit peninsula with its sand dunes is often called the "Baltic Sahara" and you will visit the national park here. The Curonian Spit is rightfully a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is one of the places in Lithuania that you must see. If you have time left, you can stop at the aquarium / dolphinarium, which is located at the very end of the spit not far from the ferry. And if you get sunny hot weather, don't forget to refresh yourself in the Baltic Sea.
From this place, you will take a ferry.
First, you will visit the fishing village of Nida at the very end of the Lithuanian part of the Curonian Spit. Afterwards, after a short walk through the forest, you will reach the impressive large dune mountain, Parnidis Dune, one of the most famous natural attractions of the Curonian Spit. At the top of the dune, there is a breathtaking panoramic view of the Baltic Sea. There is no admission fee here.

On the west side of the spit are wide sandy beaches. If the weather is good, be sure to stop for a pleasant refreshment. You can park along the access road, or you can leave the car in the parking lot from the previous stop and walk. It's not far to the beach :).

The national park has an admission fee, tickets are bought directly at the entrance. The path to the dunes leads along wooden walkways. After a while, the wooden walkways end and you will walk only in the sand :). Set aside at least an hour for this walk. A great view will be waiting for you at the end. There is a really small parking lot in front of the park, it is difficult to park there. But it is possible to park along the road.

Take the ferry back to Klaipeda. If you still have the desire and time in the evening, stop near Klaipeda on the beach and enjoy the beautiful sunset. It's later in Lithuania than in the Czech Republic :). We experienced it at 10:15 PM.

Return to Vilnius. On the way, you will stop at the Hill of Crosses and the stunning Trakai Island Castle.
It will only be a short stop, but it's definitely worth it. The Hill of Crosses is a pilgrimage site and a symbol of resistance against communist totalitarianism and the Soviet regime. It is located near the city of Šiauliai. You will see several million crosses from pilgrims from all over the world. This place has a unique atmosphere. Nearby you will find an accessible Franciscan monastery and an information center.

Trakai Island Castle is one of the most popular places in Lithuania. It is a beautiful castle in the middle of lakes. It was built on one of 21 islands. Previously, the castle was the seat of kings. There are many stalls in front of the castle where you can buy souvenirs and amber. You can also rent boats or pedal boats and take a ride around the castle and see it from the water. If you feel like it, you can go inside the castle. There are few tourists here and you can easily buy tickets at the entrance.

Before heading to the airport, you can still visit places you didn't manage to see in the first few days (if you have time before your departure).
Take one last trip to the center of Vilnius and explore the places you didn't see on the first day.

At the airport, be sure to arrive at least 2 hours before departure. Return the car and head to your gate. I wish you a safe journey home!
