This trip is suitable for any time of the year as it will allow you to enjoy Norway's nature both by foot and by using different means of transport where you can just chill and watch through the windows the magnificent Norwegian scenery. Special mention to the Flåm Railway that will leave nobody indifferent with the stunning views and the many salmon soups you will for sure eat during this week. From the magical atmosphere of the tiny village of Flåm to the vibrant cities of Bergen and Oslo where visitors can choose from a wide range of different activities, I really hope you guys enjoy this trip as much as we did for our honeymoon!
Let's take this first day as a first point of contact with this beautiful country. Today’s program depends on your arrival time.
Once you exit the airport, you need to follow the signs to the light rail station. Depending on where your accommodation is located, please check the most suitable line for you. Alternatively, taxis are also available at the airport.
The day you have so long been waiting for is here... welcome to Norway! It is always nice to use the first day of your holidays to smoothly settle in the new city and go explore the city center without any rush, just enjoying the vibes and that excitement of discovering a new place for the first time. It also depends on how early or late your plane arrives to Bergen but should you have any free time, I would recommend you to take a walk through Bryggen. Bryggen is a historic, UNESCO-listed harbour district in Bergen. It has iconic wooden houses that are very colourful (spoiler alert: it seems each colour used to refer to the job of the people living inside!). Dating back to the 12th century, it was once a major trading hub for the Hanseatic League.

Bergen is waiting for you! Either if you decide to take a free tour or to walk the city by yourself, I am pretty sure you'll be surprised with its beauty. The harbour, the small streets,... no more spoilers for now!
It is recommended to book a Free Tour the first day of your stay to make sure you discover the main monuments and you do not miss a thing! You can check out Civitatis' options for free and guided tours.
Guides also tend to share cultural, historical and social facts of the city and country so that's def a good way to start your city discovery! In the case of Bergen, they usually start from the Seafarer's Monument in the city center. The main places they cover are Bryggen, Byparken, the Bergenhus Fortress and the fish market (more on this to follow!).

Well-deserved lunch after the guided tour and what would be a better place than the traditional Fish Market? Here, you can find plenty of different seafood and fishes but you can also try moose or deer sausages, for instance.
Now that you have your stomachs full, it's time for a nice walk in the forest (very easy, promised!). But first, let's take the Fløibanen (or Floyen funicular) to climb to one of the seven mountains that surround Bergen. Then entrance to the funicular is literally two steps away from the fish market. On the top you'll be able to enjoy the beautiful city, the views are amazing! Once on the top, you can pet the famous goats that are just chilling around and it is also recommended to do a tiny hike of less than half an hour to go grab a coffee at Skomakerstuen café, small cabin in the goods. To go back to the city center, you have two options: you can either take the funicular down or walk all the way down. This second option is quite longer, it takes around 1 - 1h30 but the walk between all the huge trees is really nice.

It goes without saying that one of the most well-known to-do things in Norway are the fjords so time to discover one of them! No need to use a big cruise boat as we may imagine when we hear "fjord cruise", smaller and more sustainable ones are also available.
First things first, you need to take a boat. it is strongly recommended to book these types of cruises in advance, you can check out Norled's website . Your next destination is: Flåm.
Alternatively, there is a full package called "Songefjord in a Nutshell" that includes the following means of transport:
- Boat from Bergen to Flåm
- Train from Flåm to Mydral (famous Flåmsbana)
- Train from Mydral to Flam
You can book it with this link .
You will spend the morning doing a cruise through the Sognefjord, a stunning trip through a fjord. The boat will do several stops and you'll go down in the magical village of Flåm. The boat has a cafe with drinks and snacks and you can spend time both inside and outside the boat, depending on the weather.

Time to discover the tiny but magical village of Flåm. Situated in a valley and surrounded by mountains, this place will definitely leave a print on you. You can walk a bit next to the water and also visit their Flåm Railway Museum (which is free). There are also a few shops in the town, a small supermarket and several restaurants and food trucks.

Long time without superb views, right? Let's take a quick bus drive up to Stegastein Viewpoint. The drive is less than half an hour and the viewpoint is... I can't even describe it, you have to see it by yourselves!
Tickets can be purchased online (see link above) or directly at the Tourist center (very easy to find) and the bus leaves right next to this same building.

Today you will mostly spend our day in two different trains so no much walking to do but please open big your eyes, you don't want to miss any of the views!
This one hour train trip is very special: the train (whose history you can learn in the Railway museum of the village, but here is a fact, it is one of the steepest standard-gauge lines in the world, with 20 tunnels, 18 of which were excavated by hand) takes you from the fjord in Flåm to the high mountains at Myrdal station. Once there, you will take a second train to go to Oslo (5h long) but also with stunning views (shocking news in this country right?). There is a cafe at Mydral's train station where you can have some food or drinks in between trains.
Tickets are included in the "Songefjord in a Nutshell" package.

Welcome to Oslo, Norway's capital. Vibranty and lively city, there's a lot to discover so let's get to it.
This is the meeting point of one of the free tours that are organised in the city but it depends which company you choose to help you discover the city. Check out different guided and free tours here.
During this first morning in Oslo, your guide will probably show you around the city all the places that cannot be missed such as: Rådhuset, Aker Brygge district, Akershus Castle and Fortress, Oslo Cathedral, Oslo Opera House and the unmissable Oslo City Hall, the venue for the prestigious Nobel Peace Prize ceremony.

Time for some delicious indian food! Alternatively, there are plenty of restaurants in Oslo's city center, it is actually very hard to choose!
Very big park to go for a walk if you are lucky with the weather. There are more than 200 human sculptures and some of them are really big, it's quite impressive to see.

Time to visit a museum and wander a little bit in new parts of the city.
The National Museum of Oslo is a very complete museum with very well-known artists from different periods of art history and also some modern art. There is a room dedicated to Munch's work where you can see the famous final version of "The Scream". It also contains a rich collection of Norwegian Masters, as well as, international artists such as Vincent van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, Paul Gauguin or Claude Monet. You can easily spend the whole morning discovering all the rooms. There is also a cafeteria for sweet and savoury snacks and a water fountain.
Tickets can be purchased directly at the museum, more information can be found here.

The last stop would be the famous waterfront district of Aker Brygge. It used to be a shipyard and it was transformed into a combination of places where you can eat traditional Norwegian food, have a drink or even go shopping in the big shopping center. Lovely place to have a coffee with a nice view!
It is five minutes far from the museum by foot.

Time to say goodbye to this beautiful country, hope you really enjoyed the experience! Adjust the plan to fit your departure time.
Depending on where your accomodation is located, you may take a taxi or public transportation to get to the airport. Be sure to arrive at the airport at least 2/3 hours before your flight.
