It starts with a blue bubble and then, to the cheers of onlookers, shoots boiling water up to 20-35 meters in the air. While waiting for this spectacular natural show, we must be careful about where we stand. If the wind blows in our direction, we might get soaked like drowned rats 😄🐭🚿.
In the morning, after breakfast, we will hike through the colourful mountains before visiting the geothermal area of Hveradalir, known for its fumaroles and hot springs. The enchanting volcanic range of Kerlingarfjöll is located in the central and more remote part of Iceland, offering a tranquil escape from the crowds. We will spend several hours here 🥾, soaking in the breathtaking scenery 📷. It isundoubtedly one of the most beautiful spots in Iceland.
After the trek, we will move to our accommodation to rest and recharge for the next adventure.
The main activity in the Rainbow Mountains 🌈 of Landmannalaugar, which are formed by colorful obsidian and rhyolite peaks, is hiking through this idyllic landscape. One of the most popular treks 🥾 in Iceland takes us to the summit of Bláhnúkur, which stands at 945 meters and offers stunning views of the entire Landmannalaugar region. The trail involves a significant elevation gain but is manageable for any reasonably fit person, with no dangerous sections. The hike is approximately 6.5 km (about 3 hours) long.
All marked trails begin at the large Landmannalaugar campsite, which features public restrooms, a small shop, and parking facilities. For those who prefer not to hike, you can wait here or take a shorter walk around the Laugahraun lava field. This easy trail is 4.3 km (about 1 hour and 45 minutes) long and has gentle elevation changes, leading predominantly through a landscape of dried lava 🌋, small ravines, and undulating colorful hills.
We will have a short hike to the colourful crater Stútur 🌋.
The Sigöldugljúfur canyon is also called the Valley of Tears, which is formed by the Lekafossar Falls. From the nearby car park we are there on foot in about 10 minutes.
Háifoss is Iceland's fourth highest waterfall at 122 metres and is located in a relatively remote area of Iceland, near the Hekla volcano. On the way back to our accommodation we stop here for a few photos 📷.
After a very long day, we are taking a well-deserved rest.
After breakfast, we will head to the airport ✈️, and if time permits, we will stop briefly at interesting places along the way.
