Set out to try to catch the Northern Lights, see countless massive waterfalls, glaciers, glacial lagoons, geothermal areas, geysers, volcanoes, the endless ocean, mountains, beaches and also thermal pools or hot springs! If that's what appeals to you, this trip is the one for you!

Because we'll experience it all together as we explore the natural beauty of the southwest and south of the island. What's more, Iceland is one of the most photographed countries in the world, captivating everyone with its wildness and beauty in every season.

⭐On what dates will we see the Northern Lights?

The aurora borealis is observed from approximately September to April. The best chance of seeing it is from November to March. In the summer months, the polar day occurs and it is possible to experience a different phenomenon - the so-called midnight sun.

⭐Who is the journey suitable for?

This journey is suitable for everyone. Are you an avid traveler, adventurer, photographer, travel enthusiast, traveler but don't have anyone to go with or have never traveled but would like to? Younger? Older? No problem, you are welcome to join our group. Just prepare carefully and it will be the trip of your lifetime. And don't worry, this journey is not physically demanding. I'll just warn you about the longer car crossings, but we can handle that and you'll see that it really goes by fast with this landscape.

⭐Accommodation

Accommodation is provided in hotels/guesthouses in double to quadruple rooms.

⭐Transport

We fly from Prague. We travel around Iceland in rented Dacia Duster cars.

⭐Diet

Partly we have breakfast provided, otherwise everyone deals with food individually. Throughout our time in Iceland we will prepare and cook our own food in the kitchens where we will be staying. We will shop at local supermarkets. Prices of basic food are similar to those in the Czech Republic. Some foods, such as animal foods, are a little more expensive. If you are interested, we can arrange to go to a restaurant for a meal, but please note that meals in restaurants are 2 to 3 times more expensive than in the Czech Republic. Therefore, I recommend to stay in the Czech Republic for a filet mignon.

⭐Program

The program is detailed in the itinerary below. However, it must be said that the program is not fixed. It is more a matter of mutual agreement and also the current weather, as I said before, it is very changeable in Iceland. Between September and April is the best chance to see the polar lights. I can't guarantee it, of course, but we'll do our best - watch the weather, the clouds, the showers and in the evening, with a bit of luck, we'll catch the Northern Lights together 💪

Ytri Tunga beach is one of the best places to see wild seals in Iceland. The rocky coastline gives the seals a good opportunity to enjoy the land, but at the same time be in close contact with the safety of the ocean. To see them up close, we have to walk on very slippery rocks with even slipperier seaweed to reach them. So watch your step and be careful not to get wet.

Hrunalaug Hot Spring

According to several travellers, it is one of the best hot springs in Iceland. There is a small hut where you can safely change clothes and it is partially covered by a hillside, giving it a cosy atmosphere. You'll feel like a hobbit. And be warned, don't be put off by how small it is. The smaller the pool of water, the warmer the bath.

Seljalandsfoss

Seljalandsfoss is the more impressive, more stunning, more famous and more spectacular brother of Gljufrabui waterfall. One of the most visited waterfalls in Iceland, it is also the most beautiful waterfall on the Seljalands River, originating from the Eyjafjalljökull glacier. It has a drop of 60 metres and is surrounded by stunning scenery. You can also walk behind it thanks to a small cave at the back. It is best to visit it just before sunset to see the sun setting behind the water screen.

Gljúfrabúi

The Gljufrabui Waterfall or the so-called Secret Waterfall (my favourite) is a magical place and a natural beauty. It is called so because it can only be seen when you enter the cave. The entrance is somewhat narrow, so be prepared for balancing, a bit more coordination and trying not to get your shoes wet in the river, as the water from the waterfall drains through the aforementioned cave entrance.

Reynisfjara Beach

The beach of Reynisfjaraneor the beach of Black Sand Island is one of the main attractions of Iceland. What sets it apart from the rest are the remarkable basalt cliffs where puffins and seabirds nest in summer. Also in this area are the Reynisdrangar sea stacks, towering cliffs that rise almost 60 metres above the water. They remind locals of trolls.

WARNING! Be very careful of the waves here! They can pull you unexpectedly into the sea and due to the strong currents you will probably not get back. Also watch out for rocks that can break free from the rock wall and fall right next to you at any time.

The wreckage of a DC-3 aircraft is another curiosity in Iceland. This plane belonged to the US Navy and crashed on the black sand beach of Sólheimasandur in 1973. While the pilot survived, the plane could no longer be used, so it was abandoned on the beach and is now a tourist attraction. We are considering going to the plane as the round trip is 8 km long in total and there is no shelter from the wind/rain/snow.

On the morning of the last day, we will either enjoy the glacier cave (optional experience), whoever wants to, or we will make our own program in the morning. It depends on how and what we agree on. We will then drive to the capital Reykjavík, there we will enjoy the picturesque town and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere with a visit to a few sights and souvenir shops. On the last evening we will enjoy the hustle and bustle of the city in the evening, where we can go to a restaurant or bar (by appointment).

Katla Ice Cave

🔥Voluntary experience: the LED Nativity scene

After picking up from Vík at 9:00/9:30am, we will take you on a journey that will lead you to a mysterious cave. The road is bumpy and the views off the planet.

The ice cave is located in the Kötlujökull glacier, which is an outlet glacier from the Mýrdalsjökull glacier . Down below awaits the mighty Katla volcano, which names both the glacier and the ice cave.

Once you arrive at the glacier, your guide will hand you all the necessary ice cave equipment, go through a safety briefing, and tell you facts about glaciers and ice caves along the way. Before you enter the famous "dragon glass" cave, you will take a fun walk around the glacier with your experienced guide.

The view into the glacier cave is truly spectacular, a combination of ice colors we thought impossible, that's why this cave is also known as "Dragon's Ice Cave" because of Game of Thrones... Prepare to be amazed!

And don't forget, this experience won't be here forever, unfortunately, and it's possible that these beauties you see here will disappear in a few years. So think very carefully if this experience is worth it. In my opinion, and in the opinion of everyone who has visited, this is something really incredible.

Those who are not interested can indulge in a longer sleep. They don't have to get up early, afterwards we will explore the town of Vík with its adjacent beaches. Once our group is back from the cave, it's just a matter of driving to Reykjavik and exploring the beautiful capital city. Along the way we can stop at various places, I would recommend taking a break at the last wellness hot springs, Hverir, where we can take a last dip in the local hot spring bath. The rest of the day will be spent in Reykjavik, which is definitely worth a visit.
