In Cape Town, it is not recommended for foreigners to wander around the city, and it is always better to use taxi services for longer distances. We had the Uber app installed, which is widely available here, and we used it to get around, even for the trip to Boulders Beach. However, it depends on your comfort level whether you prefer taxis or organized tours through various companies with other tourists. Remember that South Africa, and Cape Town in particular, is a destination where you need to be extra cautious. Petty theft can occur in the city, and some neighborhoods are not safe, especially after dark. We recommend moving around primarily during daylight hours, using verified taxi services in the evening, and not visibly carrying valuables, documents, or large amounts of cash. Just as in other large cities, it is good to always keep an eye on your belongings and avoid isolated areas!
