Island - an island that captivates everyone with its wildness and beauty. Endless plains, countless waterfalls,  wind in your hair, thermal springs, unquenchable volcanoes and endless ocean, we will experience it all together on this journey to discover the best of the south of the island :)


While the autumn date offers shorter days, it gives us a great chance to see the Northern Lights, which we will be watching for during the night :) 


We will be adjusting the programme according to the weather and the mood of the group, there are plenty of other beautiful places in my pocket that I haven't included in the itinerary, so it's going to be a really busy week!!!

 

Accommodation:  arranged in hostels/guesthouses/garden houses/tourist hostels ( it is possible to be in a hostel with other people in separate cubicles) 


Transport: by air from Vienna or Prague and then travelling around Iceland by car


Catering: individual - takeaway tater tots:) each accommodation has a kitchen.


Some parking is not included in the price of the trip and is then allocated among the participants :)

Thingvellir National Park

Thingvellir National Park is located about 40 kilometres northeast of Reykjavík. It lies in a furrowed valley that marks the boundary between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. The more than 16,000 km long rift between the plates is crisscrossed with paths. We can also reach the Öxarárfoss waterfall about 10 minutes from the car park. We will also get to see the Silfra Canyon.

Skógafoss

Kvernufoss

Kvernufoss, also Kvarnarhólsárfoss, is a lesser-known Icelandic waterfall on the Kverna River. It drops down from a height of 40m and is located in a beautiful gorge about 10 minutes walk from the car park. Kvernufoss is overshadowed by the glory of the nearby Skógafoss waterfall,. Unlike Skógafoss, which is constantly under siege by thousands of people, you can still enjoy (unexpected) solitude here for the time being. And like Seljalandsfoss, for example, you can walk right up to the waterfall and enjoy the interesting views. Plus, right in the parking lot, hidden in an industrial building, is one of the most stylish and delicious restaurants I've visited in Iceland :)

Reynisfjara is perhaps Iceland's most famous beach, with its deep black volcanic sand and impressive backdrop of basalt cliffs, caves, rocks and lush green meadows. According to many rankings, Reynisfjara is even considered the most beautiful beach in the world. Because of its shape, it is also known as Black Sand Beach. The sunrises here are magical. We can also go to the cliff above the stretching beach, the walk up and back takes about 3 hours.

Svartifoss Trail
Physical difficulty: Easy

One of the most interesting waterfalls in Iceland is Svartifoss Waterfall, located in Skaftafell National Park. The Stórilækur River falls 'only' 20 metres, which isn't much for Iceland, but the cheddar hexagons, resembling the pipes of an organ, give the place its charm and attract crowds of tourists. The waterfall is surrounded by a fence, so you won't be able to take pictures under the waterfall, but it's still a very nice place to visit. We will walk up to the glacier overlook, the whole trip takes about 3-4 hours.

You know the series Katla ? Then you'll definitely recognize a few places from this town. The village of Vík lies on the very edge of the Mýrdalssandur glacier, which covers the crater of Katla, Iceland's most active volcano. The volcano has been dormant since 1918, the last time it erupted so far, leading to discussions about its imminent awakening and potential danger. The village, abbreviated as Vík, is the southernmost human settlement in Iceland and extends about 180 kilometres from Reykjavik. Despite its relatively small population (less than 300), it is the largest inhabited area within a 70-kilometre radius.

Seljalandsfoss

Seljalandsfoss is an iconic (perhaps like everything in Iceland) waterfall with opening hours :-D 

It's located a few metres from the car park, and if we arrive early in the morning we'll have it all to ourselves, although the passageway won't be open yet, so we'll head further along the cliff to another hidden waterfall, Gljúfrabui, (which is actually not so hidden anymore thanks to social media).

Gljufrabui

A previously hidden, unvisited, forgotten  and shaded waterfall hidden in a cave. On my first visit we were the only ones to go there to see it, two years later there are lines out of the cave for a chance to take pictures of the rock in front of the waterfall.

Thingvellir National Park

Thingvellir National Park is located about 40 kilometres northeast of Reykjavík. It lies in a furrowed valley that marks the boundary between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. The more than 16,000 km long rift between the plates is crisscrossed with paths. We can also reach the Öxarárfoss waterfall about 10 minutes from the car park. We will also get to see the Silfra Canyon.

Kvernufoss

Kvernufoss, also Kvarnarhólsárfoss, is a lesser-known Icelandic waterfall on the Kverna River. It drops down from a height of 40m and is located in a beautiful gorge about 10 minutes walk from the car park. Kvernufoss is overshadowed by the glory of the nearby Skógafoss waterfall,. Unlike Skógafoss, which is constantly under siege by thousands of people, you can still enjoy (unexpected) solitude here for the time being. And like Seljalandsfoss, for example, you can walk right up to the waterfall and enjoy the interesting views. Plus, right in the parking lot, hidden in an industrial building, is one of the most stylish and delicious restaurants I've visited in Iceland :)

Reynisfjara is perhaps Iceland's most famous beach, with its deep black volcanic sand and impressive backdrop of basalt cliffs, caves, rocks and lush green meadows. According to many rankings, Reynisfjara is even considered the most beautiful beach in the world. Because of its shape, it is also known as Black Sand Beach. The sunrises here are magical. We can also go to the cliff above the stretching beach, the walk up and back takes about 3 hours.

Svartifoss Trail
Physical difficulty: Easy

One of the most interesting waterfalls in Iceland is Svartifoss Waterfall, located in Skaftafell National Park. The Stórilækur River falls 'only' 20 metres, which isn't much for Iceland, but the cheddar hexagons, resembling the pipes of an organ, give the place its charm and attract crowds of tourists. The waterfall is surrounded by a fence, so you won't be able to take pictures under the waterfall, but it's still a very nice place to visit. We will walk up to the glacier overlook, the whole trip takes about 3-4 hours.

You know the series Katla ? Then you'll definitely recognize a few places from this town. The village of Vík lies on the very edge of the Mýrdalssandur glacier, which covers the crater of Katla, Iceland's most active volcano. The volcano has been dormant since 1918, the last time it erupted so far, leading to discussions about its imminent awakening and potential danger. The village, abbreviated as Vík, is the southernmost human settlement in Iceland and extends about 180 kilometres from Reykjavik. Despite its relatively small population (less than 300), it is the largest inhabited area within a 70-kilometre radius.

Seljalandsfoss is an iconic (perhaps like everything in Iceland) waterfall with opening hours :-D 

It's located a few metres from the car park, and if we arrive early in the morning we'll have it all to ourselves, although the passageway won't be open yet, so we'll head further along the cliff to another hidden waterfall, Gljúfrabui, (which is actually not so hidden anymore thanks to social media).

A previously hidden, unvisited, forgotten  and shaded waterfall hidden in a cave. On my first visit we were the only ones to go there to see it, two years later there are lines out of the cave for a chance to take pictures of the rock in front of the waterfall.

Kvernufoss

Kvernufoss, also Kvarnarhólsárfoss, is a lesser-known Icelandic waterfall on the Kverna River. It drops down from a height of 40m and is located in a beautiful gorge about 10 minutes walk from the car park. Kvernufoss is overshadowed by the glory of the nearby Skógafoss waterfall,. Unlike Skógafoss, which is constantly under siege by thousands of people, you can still enjoy (unexpected) solitude here for the time being. And like Seljalandsfoss, for example, you can walk right up to the waterfall and enjoy the interesting views. Plus, right in the parking lot, hidden in an industrial building, is one of the most stylish and delicious restaurants I've visited in Iceland :)

Reynisfjara Beach

Reynisfjara is perhaps Iceland's most famous beach, with its deep black volcanic sand and impressive backdrop of basalt cliffs, caves, rocks and lush green meadows. According to many rankings, Reynisfjara is even considered the most beautiful beach in the world. Because of its shape, it is also known as Black Sand Beach. The sunrises here are magical. We can also go to the cliff above the stretching beach, the walk up and back takes about 3 hours.

Svartifoss Trail
Physical difficulty: Easy

One of the most interesting waterfalls in Iceland is Svartifoss Waterfall, located in Skaftafell National Park. The Stórilækur River falls 'only' 20 metres, which isn't much for Iceland, but the cheddar hexagons, resembling the pipes of an organ, give the place its charm and attract crowds of tourists. The waterfall is surrounded by a fence, so you won't be able to take pictures under the waterfall, but it's still a very nice place to visit. We will walk up to the glacier overlook, the whole trip takes about 3-4 hours.

You know the series Katla ? Then you'll definitely recognize a few places from this town. The village of Vík lies on the very edge of the Mýrdalssandur glacier, which covers the crater of Katla, Iceland's most active volcano. The volcano has been dormant since 1918, the last time it erupted so far, leading to discussions about its imminent awakening and potential danger. The village, abbreviated as Vík, is the southernmost human settlement in Iceland and extends about 180 kilometres from Reykjavik. Despite its relatively small population (less than 300), it is the largest inhabited area within a 70-kilometre radius.

Seljalandsfoss

Seljalandsfoss is an iconic (perhaps like everything in Iceland) waterfall with opening hours :-D 

It's located a few metres from the car park, and if we arrive early in the morning we'll have it all to ourselves, although the passageway won't be open yet, so we'll head further along the cliff to another hidden waterfall, Gljúfrabui, (which is actually not so hidden anymore thanks to social media).

Gljufrabui

A previously hidden, unvisited, forgotten  and shaded waterfall hidden in a cave. On my first visit we were the only ones to go there to see it, two years later there are lines out of the cave for a chance to take pictures of the rock in front of the waterfall.

While the autumn date offers shorter days, it gives us a great chance to see the Northern Lights, which we will be watching for during the night :)

Reynisfjara Beach

Reynisfjara is perhaps Iceland's most famous beach, with its deep black volcanic sand and impressive backdrop of basalt cliffs, caves, rocks and lush green meadows. According to many rankings, Reynisfjara is even considered the most beautiful beach in the world. Because of its shape, it is also known as Black Sand Beach. The sunrises here are magical. We can also go to the cliff above the stretching beach, the walk up and back takes about 3 hours.

Svartifoss Trail
Physical difficulty: Easy

One of the most interesting waterfalls in Iceland is Svartifoss Waterfall, located in Skaftafell National Park. The Stórilækur River falls 'only' 20 metres, which isn't much for Iceland, but the cheddar hexagons, resembling the pipes of an organ, give the place its charm and attract crowds of tourists. The waterfall is surrounded by a fence, so you won't be able to take pictures under the waterfall, but it's still a very nice place to visit. We will walk up to the glacier overlook, the whole trip takes about 3-4 hours.

You know the series Katla ? Then you'll definitely recognize a few places from this town. The village of Vík lies on the very edge of the Mýrdalssandur glacier, which covers the crater of Katla, Iceland's most active volcano. The volcano has been dormant since 1918, the last time it erupted so far, leading to discussions about its imminent awakening and potential danger. The village, abbreviated as Vík, is the southernmost human settlement in Iceland and extends about 180 kilometres from Reykjavik. Despite its relatively small population (less than 300), it is the largest inhabited area within a 70-kilometre radius.

Seljalandsfoss

Seljalandsfoss is an iconic (perhaps like everything in Iceland) waterfall with opening hours :-D 

It's located a few metres from the car park, and if we arrive early in the morning we'll have it all to ourselves, although the passageway won't be open yet, so we'll head further along the cliff to another hidden waterfall, Gljúfrabui, (which is actually not so hidden anymore thanks to social media).

Gljufrabui

A previously hidden, unvisited, forgotten  and shaded waterfall hidden in a cave. On my first visit we were the only ones to go there to see it, two years later there are lines out of the cave for a chance to take pictures of the rock in front of the waterfall.
