Shortly after landing and driving our rental car to our first accommodation, we realized how vibrant and wild Iceland really is. A more impressive start to our 10-day road trip could hardly have been possible: an almost unreal scenery unfolded before us – endless lava fields, partly still covered with snow, from whose crevices clouds of steam rose again and again. A moment that immediately immersed us in the untamed beauty of this island.

Our route initially led us through the area around the Blue Lagoon – a region that has recently made headlines repeatedly: Grindavík and the Reykjanes Peninsula, where a volcano erupted again just last year.

After a leisurely breakfast, we set off for the coastal village of Stokkseyri – another worthwhile stop on our 10-day tour of Iceland. The place exudes a raw, original charm and provides exciting insights into the long tradition of fishing. Even today, there are old stone houses with grass-covered roofs that used to serve as natural insulation.

Particularly noteworthy is the Þuríðarbúð – a carefully restored fisherman's hut in honor of Þuríður Einarsdóttir, one of the few known women in the fishing industry of the 18th century.

The townscape is also characterized by colorful wooden fishing houses, which impressively reflect Stokkseyri's maritime past. A small place that leaves a lasting impression with its blend of history, nature and Nordic coastal flair.

The day began with a moment of pure tranquility. Even before breakfast, we took a dip with our daughter in the warm hot pot right in front of the Sigló Hotel. Surrounded by the morning silence, rising steam, and the sight of snow-covered mountains, it felt as if time stood still for a moment.

Afterward, a rich breakfast buffet awaited us in the hotel, along with freshly brewed coffee – accompanied by a view that could hardly be more beautiful. A perfect start to the day, in the middle of the peaceful atmosphere of the North.

We spent the morning in Reykjavík, the charming capital of Iceland. I enjoy strolling through the small souvenir shops every time and discovering all the detailed things – each piece carries a bit of Iceland within it.

This time, however, I was particularly impressed by the second-hand shops. The selection is diverse, tasteful, and often surprisingly original. I found a fantastic Icelandic sweater for our daughter – soft, warm, and absolutely timeless. And for myself? A new (old) jacket as a souvenir of this trip. Sustainable, unique – and full of stories.
