Before you start the real adventures of ordering the island, a few organizational things need to be taken care of. Pick up your luggage and head to the car rental, where your reserved car awaits you, which will make exploring the island much easier.
Cagliari Airport, just a few kilometers from the city, is modern and clear, so it's easy to find your way around. Car rentals are located directly in the airport building and in the immediate vicinity – Hertz, Europcar, Avis, Sixt. After picking up the car, take the main road SS130, which will safely connect you to the city or the coast.
Tonight you will spend in the capital, first check in and the rest of the day you can, depending on the time, devote yourself to exploring the city or good food and relaxation.

Start your walk at the famous Bastione di Saint Remy, an impressive hillside terrace overlooking the city and harbor. It's the perfect place for a family photo and a first taste of the Sardinian sun.

Just outside the city is the unique natural park Molentargius–Saline, where you can observe flamingos in the wild. These elegant pink birds can be seen standing in the water, feeding, or resting on one leg - for children, it's like a living picture from a fairy tale!
Where to start:
The best entrance to the Parco Naturale Regionale Molentargius–Saline is from the Quartu Sant’Elena area, off Viale Colombo. This is the part of the park where there is the greatest chance of seeing flamingos right from the road.
Parking
You can park directly at the entrance to the park in the Saline di Molentargius – Quartu Sant’Elena area. Parking is free, easily accessible, and just a few steps from the trails in the park. There is no need to cross the road or search for the entrance in a complicated way.
Walking through the park:
From the parking lot, you enter a wide, flat gravel path that is also suitable for children. After about 200–500 meters, you will reach the lagoons and observation points where flamingos are most often found. The whole park is very large and you certainly won't walk through it with children. Once they start to get tired, you can return the same way.
Another option is to choose a paid sightseeing tour by mini bus, where children can save their legs and you can also learn interesting information during a guided tour, which you can book here.
TIPS:
1. Go for observation in the early evening (or early morning), when there is the greatest chance to see a large number of birds.
2. Take binoculars or a camera (ideally with a long lens).
3. Motivate children during the walk with games: How many flamingos do you see? How many are standing on one leg and how many are in flight, what color are they, etc.
Today you will visit the magical Miniature Park, where you can get acquainted with the most famous tourist places of Sardinia in their faithful small copies. But that's not all - cute animals, fascinating dinosaurs, and an observatory that will spark the imagination of young and old explorers await you. Children will pleasantly tire themselves out while discovering miniatures, playing with animals, and at interactive exhibitions, which will make the next transfer to new accommodation much more comfortable - the children will rest during the journey and you can enjoy a quiet car ride.
Sardinia in miniature - TIP FOR FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN
The kids will love today's trip. You will visit the amusement park Parco delle Miniature, which is a combination of fun and learning.
You can look forward to the island's most famous monuments in miniature, which you can view on a walk or while sailing on a boat along a cute water trail. You can also take a tourist train ride around the park. You can also use all means of transport - they are free as part of the admission fee, you just have to stand in line.
Another part of the park awaits you with a mini zoo, where you can pet an iguana or feed fish from your hand during a guided tour. There is also an observatory, which offers guided projections of the starry sky, and last but not least, a dinosaur park with moving exhibitions of dinosaurs and prehistoric animals awaits you.

In the morning you will be greeted by Bosa, a town spread out under a medieval castle, where pastel houses are reflected in the calm Temo River and narrow streets smell of history. In the afternoon, you will move to the sea, to Cane Malu, a small and authentic fishing spot with crystal clear water and a pleasantly calm atmosphere. You can look forward to swimming, snorkeling or just lazing on the beach surrounded by rocks.
If you really want to appreciate Bosa from above, you shouldn't miss Panorama di Bosa, a viewpoint overlooking the town, which offers a breathtaking view of the historical center, the Temo River, and the colorful facades of the houses. From this spot, you can best see the Castello di Serravalle and the surrounding landscape with olive groves and hills that form the typical western Sardinian landscape.
The viewpoint is accessible by foot or car.
From the historical center, it can be reached by a short walk up a winding alley, the journey takes about 10–15 minutes. If you arrive by car, it is recommended to park by the road near the top of the hill – from there it is only a few minutes to the viewpoint.
Bosa is one of the most picturesque towns in western Sardinia, located on the banks of the Temo River. The historic center is full of narrow streets, colorful houses, and charming squares where you can wander and discover the local atmosphere.
The dominant feature of the town is the medieval Castello di Serravalle, which towers over the town and offers a breathtaking view of the town, the river, and the surrounding countryside.
A walk from the castle down to the center allows you to soak up the authentic Sardinian life, peek into small shops with local products, and sit in a cafe or taste local ice cream.
Recommended route:
1. Start at Bosa Marin by the Temo River (parking) – walk along the waterfront and observe the colorful boats and local atmosphere.
2. Ponte Vecchio (Old Bridge)
You can reach the historical center via the bridge. From there, the narrow streets of the Sa Costa district await you, gradually rising towards the castle.
3. Ascent to Castello di Serravalle
The path leads through winding streets between pastel-colored houses. We recommend wearing comfortable shoes and bringing water. At the top, you can walk along the ramparts and enjoy the view of the entire city and the surrounding hills.
4. Descent back to the center
Choose a different route down to see other corners of the city. Along the way, you will come across small shops, galleries, and locals sitting in front of their houses.
5. Coffee or ice cream break
End the walk in one of the squares or by the river. Bosa is an ideal place for a quiet sit and watching life go by.
6. Return to the car
After exploring the center, we recommend a short trip to Cane Malu, a natural and magnificent rocky stretch on the coast near Bosa.
Here you can admire the smooth rock formations and smaller natural pools, where locals sometimes swim and the brave try jumping from the lower cliffs into the sea (be careful when choosing a suitable spot - this is not an official cliff jumping spot!)

In the afternoon, you will be taken to Capo Mannu, one of the wildest and most open sections of the Sardinian coast. Endless views of the sea, dramatic cliffs and a feeling of absolute freedom await you. You will have time to just stand, breathe the salty air and feel the power of nature that sets the rhythm for the whole day here.
S'Archittu is a small village on the west coast of Sardinia, famous for its impressive natural stone arch carved by marine erosion.
This arch is over 15 meters high and offers magnificent views, great photo opportunities, and for the brave, jumps from smaller rocks into the clear water.
The trip is simple and suitable for everyone. You can park by the road near the village, from where a short footpath leads to the arch and the beach. The journey takes only a few minutes and is suitable for children or a quick walk.
On the beach overlooking the spectacularly shaped cliffs, you can enjoy swimming, relaxing on the sand, or snorkeling.
I recommend bringing water shoes, a swimsuit, a towel, sunscreen, and plenty of drinks. There are no refreshment stands at the arch, so it's a good idea to bring a snack with you.
The Archaeological Area of Tharros offers breathtaking views of the stone ruins of ancient houses, temples, and street networks, transporting you back hundreds of years. A walk among the monumental remains of ancient buildings is not only educational but also visually stunning – ideal for history and photography enthusiasts.

Another stop will be Elefante Rock, an interesting rock formation that resembles an elephant in shape. It is an ideal place for a short stop, taking photos and an easy walk. The day is designed at a leisurely pace - the journey is not just a transfer, but a natural part of exploring the island. At the end, you will arrive at your new accommodation and have time to rest.
Castello dei Doria are the remains of a medieval fortress of the Doria family. Today, mainly fragments of walls and a tower stand here, but thanks to this, you can enjoy the authentic historical atmosphere while admiring the views of the surrounding landscape and the Coghinas river valley.
Admission to the site is free. The tour takes approximately 30–45 minutes, ideally set aside an hour if you want to take photos and enjoy the views. The ruins are outdoors and without infrastructure, so don't expect tourist facilities such as a café or WC here.
L'Elefante is a natural rock formation resembling an elephant, created by the erosion of volcanic rocks. You can find it by the SS134 road between Castelsardo and Sedini, so it's easy to stop here by car. It's a short stop, allow about 10–20 minutes.

The short climb from the parking lot to the rock takes approximately 10–20 minutes. If you want to enjoy the views and take photos, we recommend allowing 30–60 minutes in total.

This trip is a great combination of movement, discovery and relaxation – the children will get tired of climbing and exploring, and during the subsequent transfer to another place, they can relax in the car, while you will have time to enjoy the peaceful panorama of the northern coast of Sardinia. You can take just a short walk along the dirt roads or freely embark on a closer exploration of all sorts of boulders and crevices.
TIP:
If you are lucky, you will also meet a herd of wild goats. Although we did not track them down, we came across two grazing land tortoises :-).

Enjoy a moment of peace, turquoise water and scenery around the rocky cape, and gather strength for an evening trip to the rocky icon of northern Italy.

Your last day in Sardinia awaits. In the morning, pack your luggage and prepare everything for the journey, so you can head to the airport at a leisurely pace and without rushing. If you have time left (depending on the departure time), you can still enjoy a short stop in Isola Rossa. You can take a walk by the sea, have lunch at one of the local restaurants, or take a last swim at Spiaggia Longa beach, where you can enjoy the sea and Sardinian atmosphere one last time. Then, head to the airport, return the car, and fly home - with your head full of experiences and memories of the diverse Sardinian landscape, the sea, and the island's peaceful pace.
If you're still on time, a short stop awaits you in Isola Rossa, a small seaside town that's ideal for slowing down before heading home. You can stroll around the harbor, have coffee or lunch at one of the seaside restaurants, and enjoy the last moments of Sardinian relaxation. The place is clear, pleasant, and offers beautiful views of the sea and the surrounding coast.
Just a few steps from the center awaits Spiaggia Longa, a long sandy beach with a gentle slope into the sea. You can expect fine sand, crystal clear water, and ideal conditions for a short swim or a walk along the shore. It is a great place to enjoy the sea, sun, and peaceful atmosphere one last time before heading to the airport.

If you are lucky, you will also meet a herd of wild goats. Although we did not track them down, we came across two grazing land tortoises :-).

Check in and soak up the atmosphere of beautiful Sardinia, or if you are tired or arrived late, just go for something good and leave the discovery for tomorrow.

Before you start the real adventures of ordering the island, a few organizational things need to be taken care of. Pick up your luggage and head to the car rental, where your reserved car awaits you, which will make exploring the island much easier.
Cagliari Airport, just a few kilometers from the city, is modern and clear, so it's easy to find your way around. Car rentals are located directly in the airport building and in the immediate vicinity – Hertz, Europcar, Avis, Sixt. After picking up the car, take the main road SS130, which will safely connect you to the city or the coast.
Tonight you will spend in the capital, first check in and the rest of the day you can, depending on the time, devote yourself to exploring the city or good food and relaxation.
Do you have the time and energy to go exploring? Start with a walk through the historical center.
Start your walk at the famous Bastione di Saint Remy, an impressive hillside terrace overlooking the city and harbor. It's the perfect place for a family photo and a first taste of the Sardinian sun.
From Bastione, continue along Via Giuseppe Garibaldi to Castello – the old city center.
You can look forward to narrow cobbled streets, small squares, historic houses with colorful doors and balconies. Children can discover hidden corners and you can enjoy the atmosphere of Sardinian history.
Two iconic medieval towers – you can climb them and have a panoramic view of the city and the sea. Children often enjoy the views and the small staircase inside.
Head down Via dei Genovesi towards the harbor. Check out the docked boats, fishing boats, and small harbor marketplaces.

Right in the morning, you can look forward to relaxing with sand under your feet and the sound of the sea on the main city beach, Poetto, where the kids will build their first sandcastles while you enjoy a moment of peace in the sun with views of the Tyrrhenian Sea. Afterwards, head to the nature reserve to watch wild flamingos in their natural habitat.
What's better than starting the day with warm sand under your feet and salty water in your hair? Children certainly can't wait to have fun in the sea for the first time.
Morning time at Poetto beach is an ideal start to a family vacation. Everyone will recharge their batteries, soak up the sun and energy, which they will then use on an early evening trip to see wild flamingos. On the promenade you will find cafes, bars and ice cream parlors, so there is no need to bring large supplies of food and drinks.
TIPS:
The beach has a combination of lively tourist sections and quieter places to relax. If you want more privacy, head a few hundred meters from the main entrances to the beach, where children will have more space for free play and frolicking.
Just outside the city is the unique natural park Molentargius–Saline, where you can observe flamingos in the wild. These elegant pink birds can be seen standing in the water, feeding, or resting on one leg - for children, it's like a living picture from a fairy tale!
Where to start:
The best entrance to the Parco Naturale Regionale Molentargius–Saline is from the Quartu Sant’Elena area, off Viale Colombo. This is the part of the park where there is the greatest chance of seeing flamingos right from the road.
Parking
You can park directly at the entrance to the park in the Saline di Molentargius – Quartu Sant’Elena area. Parking is free, easily accessible, and just a few steps from the trails in the park. There is no need to cross the road or search for the entrance in a complicated way.
Walking through the park:
From the parking lot, you enter a wide, flat gravel path that is also suitable for children. After about 200–500 meters, you will reach the lagoons and observation points where flamingos are most often found. The whole park is very large and you certainly won't walk through it with children. Once they start to get tired, you can return the same way.
Another option is to choose a paid sightseeing tour by mini bus, where children can save their legs and you can also learn interesting information during a guided tour, which you can book here.
TIPS:
1. Go for observation in the early evening (or early morning), when there is the greatest chance to see a large number of birds.
2. Take binoculars or a camera (ideally with a long lens).
3. Motivate children during the walk with games: How many flamingos do you see? How many are standing on one leg and how many are in flight, what color are they, etc.
Today you will visit the magical Miniature Park, where you can get acquainted with the most famous tourist places of Sardinia in their faithful small copies. But that's not all - cute animals, fascinating dinosaurs, and an observatory that will spark the imagination of young and old explorers await you. Children will pleasantly tire themselves out while discovering miniatures, playing with animals, and at interactive exhibitions, which will make the next transfer to new accommodation much more comfortable - the children will rest during the journey and you can enjoy a quiet car ride.
Sardinia in miniature - TIP FOR FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN
The kids will love today's trip. You will visit the amusement park Parco delle Miniature, which is a combination of fun and learning.
You can look forward to the island's most famous monuments in miniature, which you can view on a walk or while sailing on a boat along a cute water trail. You can also take a tourist train ride around the park. You can also use all means of transport - they are free as part of the admission fee, you just have to stand in line.
Another part of the park awaits you with a mini zoo, where you can pet an iguana or feed fish from your hand during a guided tour. There is also an observatory, which offers guided projections of the starry sky, and last but not least, a dinosaur park with moving exhibitions of dinosaurs and prehistoric animals awaits you.

In the morning you will be greeted by Bosa, a town spread out under a medieval castle, where pastel houses are reflected in the calm Temo River and narrow streets smell of history. In the afternoon, you will move to the sea, to Cane Malu, a small and authentic fishing spot with crystal clear water and a pleasantly calm atmosphere. You can look forward to swimming, snorkeling or just lazing on the beach surrounded by rocks.
If you really want to appreciate Bosa from above, you shouldn't miss Panorama di Bosa, a viewpoint overlooking the town, which offers a breathtaking view of the historical center, the Temo River, and the colorful facades of the houses. From this spot, you can best see the Castello di Serravalle and the surrounding landscape with olive groves and hills that form the typical western Sardinian landscape.
The viewpoint is accessible by foot or car.

The path leads through winding streets between pastel-colored houses. We recommend wearing comfortable shoes and bringing water. At the top, you can walk along the ramparts and enjoy the view of the entire city and the surrounding hills.
4. Descent back to the center
Choose a different route down to see other corners of the city. Along the way, you will come across small shops, galleries, and locals sitting in front of their houses.
5. Coffee or ice cream break
End the walk in one of the squares or by the river. Bosa is an ideal place for a quiet sit and watching life go by.
6. Return to the car
After exploring the center, we recommend a short trip to Cane Malu, a natural and magnificent rocky stretch on the coast near Bosa.
Here you can admire the smooth rock formations and smaller natural pools, where locals sometimes swim and the brave try jumping from the lower cliffs into the sea (be careful when choosing a suitable spot - this is not an official cliff jumping spot!)

S'Archittu is a small village on the west coast of Sardinia, famous for its impressive natural stone arch carved by marine erosion.
This arch is over 15 meters high and offers magnificent views, great photo opportunities, and for the brave, jumps from smaller rocks into the clear water.
The trip is simple and suitable for everyone. You can park by the road near the village, from where a short footpath leads to the arch and the beach. The journey takes only a few minutes and is suitable for children or a quick walk.
On the beach overlooking the spectacularly shaped cliffs, you can enjoy swimming, relaxing on the sand, or snorkeling.
I recommend bringing water shoes, a swimsuit, a towel, sunscreen, and plenty of drinks. There are no refreshment stands at the arch, so it's a good idea to bring a snack with you.
