Sicily is the largest island in the Mediterranean Sea. It offers great beaches and swimming, but also stunning nature, including the active volcanoes Etna and Stromboli, and interesting historical sites, as many cultures have clashed here throughout the ages. Sicily has also been remembered for the Mafia, but today there is really nothing to worry about. On this self-guided tour you will explore mainly the west coast. You can take inspiration from the traditional itinerary below. However, you will have a car at your disposal throughout your trip, so it's ultimately up to you where you go 💪😎 


Accommodation

You will stay in a well-rated apartment in the picturesque town of San Vito Lo Capo. It is famous for having what is said to be the most beautiful beaches in all of Sicily. Specific information (including photos)  on the accommodation can always be found in the Purchase a Trip section for each date.


Transport

A direct flight from Bratislava takes you directly to the Sicilian city of Trapani. You will pick up your car at the airport and continue about 60 km to San Vito Lo Capo. You will also drop off your car at the same place at the end of the journey. Be prepared that even if the car is included in the price of the trip, the rental company will block a deposit (in the hundreds of euros) on your credit card, which will be released when you return the car. This is a normal process where the rental company protects itself against possible damage to the car. Don't worry though, the car is of course insured by us.

  • small luggage that must fit under the seat in front of you (larger luggage can be added during the booking process in the Purchase Travel section)
  • car for the whole stay with insurance (rental and return at Trapani airport - A credit card in the driver's name is required to rent a car, in case of a debit card extra charges may apply. A deposit of a few hundred euros will be blocked on the card by the rental company for the duration of the car rental, which will be released again within a few days after the return of the car. The car insurance is already included in the price of the trip, there is no need to purchase additional insurance on the spot.)

Trapani

Trapani is a great starting point if you want to take a ferry to the Egadi Islands. But the historic centre of the town is also worth a visit. Among the most famous sights are the Cathedral of San Lorenzo, the Basilica of Madonna di Trapani and the watchtower of Torre di Ligny.

A trip to Trapani can also be combined with a visit to the Antique town of Erice. It lies in the mountains 751 meters above sea level and is one of the most visited places on the island. Visit the Castello Pepoli or Castello di Venere, the Cathedral of the Assumption and the Cyclopean Walls from the 8th century BC.

Aegadian Islands

Ideally, leave a whole day to visit one of the islands. The largest island Favignana is ideal for lovers of great beaches. However, the stylish Faro di Punta Sottile lighthouse is worth a visit. The island of Marettimo beckons with its beautiful nature full of cliffs and perfect views. There is also the Castle of Punta Troia. On the island of Levanzo you can visit the interesting Grotta del Genovese cave with its Paleolithic paintings. If you are tempted to visit this place, wear good shoes, as you will have an 8 km hike.


The cruise to the islands takes between 30 and 60 minutes, and 60 to 90 minutes to Marettimo, which is the furthest.

Sicily is the largest island in the Mediterranean Sea. It offers great beaches and swimming, but also stunning nature, including the active volcanoes Etna and Stromboli, and interesting historical sites, as many cultures have clashed here throughout the ages. Sicily has also been remembered for the Mafia, but today there is really nothing to worry about. On this self-guided tour you will explore mainly the west coast. You can take inspiration from the traditional itinerary below. However, you will have a car at your disposal throughout your trip, so it's ultimately up to you where you go 💪😎 


Accommodation

You will stay in a well-rated apartment in the picturesque town of San Vito Lo Capo. It is famous for having what is said to be the most beautiful beaches in all of Sicily. Specific information (including photos)  on the accommodation can always be found in the Purchase a Trip section for each date.


Transport

A direct flight from Bratislava takes you directly to the Sicilian city of Trapani. You will pick up your car at the airport and continue about 60 km to San Vito Lo Capo. You will also drop off your car at the same place at the end of the journey. Be prepared that even if the car is included in the price of the trip, the rental company will block a deposit (in the hundreds of euros) on your credit card, which will be released when you return the car. This is a normal process where the rental company protects itself against possible damage to the car. Don't worry though, the car is of course insured by us.

  • small luggage that must fit under the seat in front of you (larger luggage can be added during the booking process in the Purchase Travel section)
  • car for the whole stay with insurance (rental and return at Trapani airport - A credit card in the driver's name is required to rent a car, in case of a debit card extra charges may apply. A deposit of a few hundred euros will be blocked on the card by the rental company for the duration of the car rental, which will be released again within a few days after the return of the car. The car insurance is already included in the price of the trip, there is no need to purchase additional insurance on the spot.)

Trapani

Trapani is a great starting point if you want to take a ferry to the Egadi Islands. But the historic centre of the town is also worth a visit. Among the most famous sights are the Cathedral of San Lorenzo, the Basilica of Madonna di Trapani and the watchtower of Torre di Ligny.

Erice

A trip to Trapani can also be combined with a visit to the Antique town of Erice. It lies in the mountains 751 meters above sea level and is one of the most visited places on the island. Visit the Castello Pepoli or Castello di Venere, the Cathedral of the Assumption and the Cyclopean Walls from the 8th century BC.

Aegadian Islands

Ideally, leave a whole day to visit one of the islands. The largest island Favignana is ideal for lovers of great beaches. However, the stylish Faro di Punta Sottile lighthouse is worth a visit. The island of Marettimo beckons with its beautiful nature full of cliffs and perfect views. There is also the Castle of Punta Troia. On the island of Levanzo you can visit the interesting Grotta del Genovese cave with its Paleolithic paintings. If you are tempted to visit this place, wear good shoes, as you will have an 8 km hike.


The cruise to the islands takes between 30 and 60 minutes, and 60 to 90 minutes to Marettimo, which is the furthest.
