Are you interested in learning to surf? Have you been putting it off for a long time because you don't have anyone to go with, you have a language barrier, or you just don't know how to do it? Or have you ever surfed before and want to hone your skills, plus spend a week with a like-minded group and clear your head? Then come with me to Portugal!
I'm Dencha, I tried surfing for the first time two years ago and I can't stop! I'm still a beginner, so I won't teach you, but I'll explain the technique, tell you what to look out for so you feel safe in the water and I'll make sure you have a great time too!
All lessons will be with experienced surf instructors who will provide all the equipment (transport to the spot, boards, wetsuits).
Yoga classes (optional) will be held at the amazing Alma studio https://www.almaportugal.pt/ which is about a 10 minute walk from our accommodation. There will also be surf skating lessons to help us better understand how the body works when surfing and it's also tremendous fun. And being by the ocean also means seafood, fresh fruit and vegetables and a week of sunshine and active relaxation.
Arrive in Lisbon and go straight to the bus station from where we take a bus (about 1.5 hours drive) to the town of Peniche and then a short drive to the town of Baleal where we spend the whole week.
On arrival we will settle in, grab a bite to eat and take a walk around the area. In the evening we'll go to one of the local bars for a few drinks to get acquainted.

Baleal is a picturesque village and popular destination on the west coast of Portugal. It is known for its beautiful beaches, great surfing conditions and relaxed atmosphere. This peninsula is made up of two main beaches, Praia do Baleal Sul and Praia do Baleal Norte, which are surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean. Baleal is one of the best surfing destinations in Portugal and attracts surfers from all over the world. Its diverse waves make it suitable for beginners and advanced surfers alike. The beaches in Baleal are known for their fine sand and clear water. In and around the village you will find many restaurants, cafes and bars where you can taste local cuisine and fresh seafood.

We have a week full of surfing, yoga, surf scat and relaxation. We'll be in the ocean for a few hours each day, working on theory, developing technique, stretching tight muscles and definitely talking about surfing all the time. We'll also find time to relax on the beach, take walks around the neighborhood, and eat good food.
We'll adjust our surf times to the wave conditions and the time we go to the amazing Alma studio for yoga accordingly.

Today we are going to have a surfing lesson and surf skating lesson - we are going to practice our technique on land and understand better the movement in the water. In the evening, we'll throw some goodies on the grill or go out for a meal at one of the local restaurants.

Depending on conditions, we will go raw (morning or afternoon) and yoga. In the evening, we will take a ride to a picturesque village on an island where we will have dinner at one of the local restaurants and taste sangria or the famous Portuguese wine.

We will visit the place with the biggest waves in Europe. Don't worry, we won't surf them, but if we are lucky we will see some really big waves. We will look at Sitio, which is a historic part of town on top of a cliff that offers spectacular views of the ocean and the city below. There is the chapel of Nossa Senhora da Nazaré, which is just beautiful. We take a cable car ride up to the top, which gives us beautiful views. Nazaré is famous for its excellent seafood cuisine. Fresh fish and seafood are a staple of the local cuisine. A typical dish is, for example, the "caldeirada", a fish stew that can be enjoyed in one of the local restaurants.
Nazaré is a picturesque seaside town on the west coast of Portugal, famous for its gigantic waves. These waves can reach heights of up to 30 metres. Surfers from all over the world come here to ride these waves. Garrett McNamara broke the world record here in 2011 when he rode a wave 23.8 metres high.

Next day, another surfing and surf skating lesson - we will be experienced already 🏄 In the evening we will go to taste the nightlife that happens here on the street. There might even be some dancing, but watch out for hangovers, we're going surfing the next day!

Depending on conditions, we will go surfing and do some yoga (wishing the waves were in the afternoon so we could sleep in after the previous party). Activity possible, but I see it more like relaxing on the beach.

Last day of surfing and yoga stretches, so we're going all out! In the evening we'll have a sunset walk on the cliffs. We'll take a beer with us and enjoy the beautiful scenery.

Almagreira is known for its dramatic landscape with high cliffs, rocky outcrops and golden sand. The beach is surrounded by wildlife and offers beautiful views and sunsets.

A final surf session and appreciation of all we've learned. We'll give it our all and maybe come up with something original. Like surfing in "what house next" costumes or going surfing without a wetsuit 😁.
Towards the evening we will move to Lisbon where we have accommodation near the airport, as we have an early flight.

Farewell, exchange of contacts, photos and maybe a few tears and departure
