Take a journey that will take you beyond your everyday holidays. It all starts where history meets the modern rhythm of the city - at the majestic Akershus Castle and the bustling Aker Brygge promenade overlooking the calm waters of the Oslofjord. Then slow your pace at Lake Sognsvann, where the forest whispers its secrets to the water, before heading across the Mjøsa Bridge with views that are unforgettable. And the best is yet to come - the Gudbrandsdalen valley and Rondane and Jotunheimen national parks. Here you'll touch the true Nordic wilderness, walk through a landscape dotted with glaciers and mountains, and maybe even climb Galdhøpiggen itself - Norway's highest peak. And when you crave a little adrenaline? Holmenkollen's Zipline and Skisimulator are guaranteed to get your blood pumping.
Upon arrival, pick up your car at the airport and travel comfortably to the hotel. Relax after your journey and get ready for the upcoming adventure. If you have time left, you can go to the city for some fun in the evening or just explore the surroundings.
When renting, take enough photos and videos regarding the condition of the car! - all scratches and abrasions, so that you have proof upon return that the car was already in that condition.
Discovering Oslo and its most interesting places. You will start at Akershus Fortress – a place that has retained its dignity even after centuries. In addition to history, it also offers a view of the fjord, which you will probably want to enjoy in peace for a while. Then you will move to Aker Brygge – a port district that is proof that Oslo can also be very contemporary. Modern architecture, galleries, cafes, boats... and an atmosphere that may surprise you with how casual and pleasant it can be.
For lunch, you will stop at Osteria della Nonna. A small Italian restaurant that focuses on honest flavors rather than effects. A great place to sit down and slow down for a while.
And you will end the day with a walk around Lake Sognsvann. It is a favorite place for locals – and no wonder. Forest, water, clean air, and peace that seems so natural that you don't even have to explain it.
Akershus Castle offers the chance to explore mysterious underground passages, admire historic weapons and learn about the brave Norwegian heroes who protected their country. And if you're lucky, you might bump into soldiers at the changing of the guard, which is always a great attraction.
Aker Brygge is one of Oslo's top destinations if you want to enjoy a modern urban environment by the water. It is located just a few minutes walk from the centre and is easily accessible on foot and by public transport. The district was created by the redevelopment of the old ship port and today you will find a mix of office buildings, apartments, shops and restaurants. The waterfront is ideal for a stroll - there's plenty of space, benches and views of the Oslofjord and harbour bustle. In the summer you can sit on the terrace of one of the many restaurants and cafes, while in the winter Aker Brygge is again pleasantly quieter but still lively. Here you'll find clothing boutiques, designer shops, galleries and a supermarket. If you're looking for a place to eat comfortably, relax or just take a stroll along the water, Aker Brygge is a good choice at any time of year.
Go to this Italian restaurant for lunch. Their homemade pasta with seafood is definitely worth a try.
After lunch, take a walk back to the car and head to Lake Sognsvann.
A walk around Lake Sognsvann is the perfect opportunity to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and immerse yourself in nature while staying close to Oslo. The crystal clear water, surrounded by forests and hills, offers not only beautiful scenery but also a peaceful atmosphere for relaxation. The trails around the lake are ideal for hiking and cross-country skiing, either in summer when you can enjoy the sunshine or in winter when the lake is frozen and covered in snow.
During today you will have a longer drive to the north of Norway to Rondane National Park, which you will pass today. Or at least you can try to, it's a huge park with lots of trails and paths. So whether you take the trail we recommend or head in another direction, you'll find beautiful, breathtaking nature in Rondane.
Rondane National Park is a paradise for nature lovers and outdoor activities. With its dramatic mountain scenery, deep valleys and diverse fauna, it is ideal for hiking, climbing or wildlife watching, including the majestic reindeer. Whether you are looking for tranquillity in the wild Norwegian countryside or adventure on the mountaintops, Rondane offers unforgettable experiences and breathtaking views at every turn.
I recommend the route from Smuksjøseter Fjellstue mountain hut to Peer Gynt-hut. It is a popular route that offers beautiful views and a pleasant walk in the Norwegian countryside. Here is some practical information about this route:
Route length: Approximately 8.1 km (circuit)
Elevation: Approximately 230 m
Walking time: 2 hours 20 minutes on average
Difficulty: Moderate - suitable for those in good physical condition
Starting point: Smuksjøseter Fjellstue (approx. 1,130 m above sea level)
The route starts at Smuksjøseter Fjellstue and runs along Lake Høvringsvatnet towards Peer Gynt-hut. On the way you pass two more lakes with the same name. The first five kilometres are relatively easy and flat. When you reach the third lake, views of the peaks of Bråkdalsbelgen and other mountains in the national park open up. In front of the hut, you cross the river on a small bridge, where you can enjoy the view of the water flowing from the mountains.

An amazing adrenaline day is ahead of you! Head to Jotunheimen National Park, where, exceptionally, no hikes await you today. That is, unless you decide to do it yourself. But if you let us convince you, you will experience a fast zipline ride. See for yourself.
The zipline Lom runs across the river in the village of Lom, which is part of the Jotunheimen National Park. The zipline also passes through a waterfall, which you can fly under and not worry about coming out dry.

Wow. This experience must have taken your breath away. I hope not literally. However, if you haven't had enough for today and want to make the most of today's discoveries, who's stopping you? You are in the heart of one of the most beautiful national parks in Norway! Go for a hike, rent a mountain bike or kayak at Aktivity park Lom and show what you've got!
The Jotunheimen National Park is a true paradise for nature lovers and adventurers. With its majestic mountains, glaciers and deep valleys, it offers incredible views that you will fall in love with. Jotunheimen will enchant you with its wild nature and unforgettable experiences. Its name means "Home of the Giants". You will definitely appreciate this name when you learn that the highest mountain massif in Norway and Scandinavia is located in the park, with Mount Galdhøpiggen (2 469 m).
Today you're in for a day of breathtaking natural beauty and adventure! After yesterday's adrenaline and nature experience, today we will take you to Dovrefjell-Sunndalsfjella Park, where you will immerse yourself in the wild Norwegian nature and maybe even spot rare musk oxen or wild reindeer. If so, send us a photo!
Dovrefjell-Sunndalsfjella National Park is one of the most unique parts of Norway, where wildlife and rare fauna meet. The park is home to wild reindeer, musk deer and rare bird species, making it an ideal place for nature lovers and animal watchers. With its mountain scenery, vast plateaus and clear lakes, Dovrefjell offers unforgettable hiking and outdoor experiences.
We (and Lonely Planet) recommend the hike to the Romsdalseggen ridge.
In 2011, Lonely Planet named a hike up the Romsdalseggen Ridge as one of the world's most beautiful mountain hikes - and for good reason. Visitors can experience this phenomenal but unrelenting landscape and the spectacular views of Trollveggen and several other famous mountain classics. To the southeast, it is possible to see the Dalsida Protected Landscape Area, which extends to Dovrefjell and Sunndalsfjell.
The trip starts by bus from Åndalsnes town centre to Venjedalssetra. From there the trail is well marked and well maintained. The initial climb is tiring and steep and there are sections along the ridge where easy climbing is required - don't worry, there are well secured chains. After a while the ridge widens and there is a pleasant descent down to Nesaksla. There is only one last section left, down from Romsdalstrappa to Åndalsnes, with the obligatory stop at Rampestreken.
Bus tickets to the starting point in the valleyVengedalen must be booked in advance.
