Andalusia is magical. The people, nature, atmosphere. It’s definitely worth it. And if you don’t have that much time, skip Gibraltar and visit it another time. But if you like good people, food, and peace, come on a trip with me. For us, it was clearly the nicest European trip with kids that we’ve ever taken.
As soon as you land, pick up your rental car right at the airport and head into the city to your accommodation. Adjust your plans based on your arrival time, and if you're not too tired, feel free to head out for a walk or grab a delicious local dinner.
You'll pick up the car right at the airport (following the instructions you'll get before your flight). You'll handle the formalities and get the car keys. Then, you'll head to your accommodation in the center of Seville.

Today you'll head south. Destination: Huelva, Isla Cristina. You've got a lot to look forward to! Nature, lovely people, and plenty of fun.
You are arriving at one of the most amazing places in Europe. Just a stone's throw from the Portuguese border. Get ready for paradise on earth. And that's exactly where you'll be spending the next few days ☀. The beach stretches along the entire coastline. It is endless, clean, and beautiful. Plan on doing nothing, just relax and enjoy the peace. Once you arrive, check in and take a walk around the area.
You can park anywhere and everyone will be happy to help you. You'll feel really great here. Although you'll really only be able to communicate with the locals in Spanish. You can use English with service staff, but in this case, our good "basic English" will be perfectly fine. You will definitely find a little Portuguese useful too 😊.

Enjoy a relaxing and acclimatizing day. It's ideal to combine some beach time with a visit to the town of Isla Cristina.
You can wander back and forth along the beach. It’s endless.
Be prepared for the beach to come alive on weekend evenings, turning into one big dance floor around the local bar. The atmosphere is super cool. And if you’re there in the summer and head off the beach at 9:30 PM, it will feel like 4:00 PM. In the summer, the sun doesn't set until after 10:00 PM. Conversely, the morning drags on until noon. Not that it's dark, not at all, but no one really wants to get up, and a leisurely breakfast smoothly transitions into lunch. And that's what's so great about Spain.
If you want to head over to the town of Isla Cristina, you can walk along the beach for about an hour and you're there. You can walk through the center in a few minutes and grab something good to eat. Just keep in mind that not every restaurant is open non-stop. Some observe a siesta and won't cook anything for you in the afternoon. So either arrive for lunch or dinner. In the afternoon, it's just time to relax.
Enjoy your time off to the fullest, tomorrow you're moving towards Cadiz.

After checking out, you'll head to the beautiful town of Cadiz. Some culture and civilization await you.
You'll drive into the city over a bridge. It's quite an experience. Everything is clear and matches the GPS.

Park in the underground parking. Keep in mind that underground garages in Cádiz are much smaller than the ones we're used to. This is where you'll appreciate having a tiny car. Then go check into your accommodation. After a short rest, head out for a late lunch or early dinner. Restaurants are everywhere, just take your pick. Grocery stores are on every corner, too.
Cádiz is a tiny town with a beautiful historic center, but you can walk through it in no time. So, don't rush anywhere. The city of Cádiz is gorgeous, though. Very cleverly built and lined with narrow little streets where not even a ray of sun can reach. And definitely not a car 😃. The town is small and picturesque.
Head towards the cathedral. Evening, daytime—it will always amaze you. If you're traveling with kids, be prepared for them to beg for a ride on the classic carousel. Maybe the adults will enjoy it too. Then, have a good night. You'll properly explore Cádiz tomorrow.

Many accommodations have a rooftop pool. Usually with a beautiful view of the surroundings. This will definitely make your stay more enjoyable and help you relax after an exhausting day. Keep this in mind when choosing a hotel 😉.
You'll be exploring the town, looking for some shade😊 and maybe even relaxing on the city beach.
Take a walk through the historic center, where you haven't been yet. If you've already seen the cathedral, enjoy wandering through the little side streets without a destination. It's the only way to avoid the frustration of feeling like you've been here before. The streets all look the same, they connect to each other, and it feels a bit like a maze.
Don't forget the waterfront while you still have the energy. You might find that you'd rather leave the sightseeing for the evening and head to the beach instead. It just depends on the temperatures you'll find here.
You can visit the Torre Tavira lookout tower. It dates back to the 18th century and you'll enjoy a stunning view of the city.
Not far from the lookout tower, there's a very busy market. Cafes, little shops, stalls. You can buy pretty much anything here, but you don't have to buy a thing.
Probably the last stop you'll have the energy for is the partially excavated remains of a monumental Roman theatre. It could hold 20,000 spectators.
It's probably time for some beach relaxation 😉. There are a few city beaches here. Just pick whichever is closest. There isn't much difference between them. Even though it's a city beach, it's big, clean, and the water is noticeably warmer compared to the last place. And then head home. Good night.

You're heading to Tarifa. It's a spot where you can see all the way to Morocco. It's famous for the wind, which is perfect for water sports. You're in for some amazing sights, white sand, and turquoise water.
After arriving in Tarifa, check into your accommodation and head to the beach. Tarifa is quite windy and famous for its ubiquitous kites. It's fun to watch the kitesurfing, but you can give it a try yourself. You can also try other water sports. This place is iconic for them, and the instructors are very dedicated. You don't need to book anything in advance.
If you're on the beach in the evening, you'll see lights across the water. That's Morocco. You are at the closest European point from which you can also take a boat to Morocco.
After relaxing on the beach, head back to your accommodation to rest. Tomorrow, your journey to Gibraltar awaits.

Head towards Gibraltar first thing in the morning. Park in the car park before the entrance. You can buy a parking ticket in advance, but it's quite large and you probably won't need to.
Park your car, take everything you need for the day and most importantly, your passports. Gibraltar belongs to the UK, so there will definitely be a border check. You can pay by card everywhere, so there's no need to exchange money.
Head over the border crossing on foot. It also doubles as an airplane runway, so you might have to wait a bit before being allowed through. Either way, it's quite the experience. You'll see the legendary Rock of Gibraltar right in front of you, and that's exactly where you're headed.
You can take the cable car up, but if there's a long line, you can walk. It's not far at all, and you'll waste too much time waiting for the cable car. Plus, you can start enjoying the monkeys on your way up. You can buy tickets for the rock/National Park online or at the entrance.
On your way up and around the entire national park on the Rock of Gibraltar, you'll see macaque troops. Unfortunately, tourists feed them, so they've become quite cheeky—stay alert and don't give them any food. Don't eat anything within their reach either; they might show up in an unguarded moment and startle you. Otherwise, though, they're everywhere and very cute.
This is the only European colony of Barbary macaques.
St. Michael's Cave. We definitely recommend this one. It's an amazing sight. You'll be surprised by the illuminated stalactites with musical and visual projections. It's magical.
Once you've walked through the entire reserve, you'll head down and walk back to your car through the small town.
And off we go back to the peace of Tarifa. Ocean, pool, dinner, and goodnight.

You'll head by car to the small town of Tarifa. You'll explore it and say goodbye to this southern tip of Spain.
The most interesting spot is the fortress and the road leading up to it. It actually separates the Atlantic Ocean from the Mediterranean Sea. And it really is a fascinating place. On the right, the wild and cold ocean; on the left, the calm and warm sea.
Enjoy a stroll through the town as well. You'll find plenty of souvenirs and clothes waiting for you here. The picturesque little shops won't let you pass by unnoticed. Once you've had enough, head back to your car and your accommodation.
You can also walk through the historic gate that separates the new part of the town from the ancient one.
You can also walk through the historical gate that separates the new part of the city from the old one.
You can visit the fortress that once guarded the port of Tarifa. There is a wonderful view of the whole city, the port, and the Strait of Gibraltar from here. If the weather is nice, you'll see Morocco, just 15 km away.
If you have the energy for a hike, head out from here for at least a few km there and back. The view of the open sea is definitely worth it.
From this photo point, you'll capture the exact spot where the ocean ends and the sea begins. When you've had enough, pick up your car and head home. A transfer awaits you tomorrow.

You're heading to the city of Marbella, which is on a different scale compared to the tiny towns. It's a major tourist city with everything that comes with it. This time, the beaches are lined with sunbeds, restaurants, and tourists everywhere. In short, we're approaching a world of luxury civilization.
Once you arrive in Marbella, check into your hotel and park your car (if possible). You have two days left. Use them to explore the beaches and take walks along the sea. Spanish coastal paths are famous, and you can walk for miles while enjoying the stunning flowers and sea air.

Today is your last day by the sea. Enjoy it however you like! A walk along the beach, or having fun in the waves?
What's amazing about Spain are the endless paths along the sea. And that's exactly what you'll experience in this area. Practically wherever you stop, beautiful views and coastal walks await you. Feel free to head all the way here and back again.

Today you're flying home. Depending on your flight time and when you drop off the car, you can check out Málaga city. Then, return your car at the airport and head home. Have a safe flight!
Don't forget to be at the airport at least 2-3 hours before your flight. Drop off the (refueled) car and head to your gate. Have a pleasant trip home.
Let us know how you liked Andalusia and if you plan to return there just like us. 😉.
