Once you arrive at the airport, it's best to take the City Airport Train (CAT). It will take you to the city center, and from there you can easily take public transport to your accommodation. It's a good idea to download the "Wien Mobil" app so you can easily navigate the city by bus and train.
After arriving at your accommodation, start the evening with a visit to the festively illuminated Christmas market at Rathausplatz. Book a tram ticket for the entire weekend on the Vienna transport association website (this is the cheapest option). Afterwards, enjoy a leisurely stroll along the Ringstraße, where the City Hall, Parliament, and other magnificent buildings shine in Christmas splendor. If you like, you can also check out the big red bow on Kärntner Straße. You can wind down the day in a bar or simply back at your Airbnb.
The day starts with breakfast at Café Landtmann (reservations recommended). Afterwards, a visit to the Hofburg Palace is on the agenda, followed by the impressive State Hall of the Austrian National Library. Get the combination ticket for the Hofburg Palace and Schönbrunn Palace (approx. €50 per person). For lunch, head to the Naschmarkt to enjoy the culinary diversity. In the afternoon, visit the baroque Karlskirche, take a look inside the Vienna State Opera (optional), explore St. Stephen's Cathedral and the Jesuit Church. Enjoy dinner at Meissl & Schadn (they have the best Wiener Schnitzel in town - reservations highly recommended!). I recommend walking as much as possible to soak up the city's atmosphere. There are great buildings and culinary delights around every corner.
After breakfast (at your breakfast spot of choice), head to the magnificent Schönbrunn Palace (by tram), where you'll visit the state rooms and stroll through the palace gardens. Afterwards, enjoy the wonderful atmosphere and delicious cake at Café Gerstner. In the afternoon, visit the Kunsthistorisches Museum (tickets available on site) and the MuseumsQuartier, before admiring the magnificent Palais Kinsky and Palais Liechtenstein (optional). Then enjoy a light snack at the famous Café Central or Kaiserschmarrn at Demel, before ending the day with a magical experience at the "Potions" bar (Harry Potter vibes - be sure to book in advance).
