After arriving in Amman, the capital of Jordan, you’ll have the chance to exchange money at the airport (I recommend converting dollars to Jordanian dinars, JOD). Here, you’ll pick up your rental car and drive to the nearby picturesque town of Madaba.

Madaba is the Christian center of Jordan, home to numerous churches and historic buildings. The most visited is the Greek Orthodox Church of St. George, which you can explore as well. Inside, you’ll find the famous Madaba Map, a 6th-century mosaic and the oldest map of the Holy Land (entrance: 1 JOD). If you still have time and energy, you can also visit the Archaeological Museum, with entry included in your Jordan Pass.

Bethany (Al-Maghtas) is a site of immense historical and spiritual significance, believed to be the location where John the Baptist baptized Jesus. Visitors can explore the archaeological remains, including ancient baptismal pools, churches, and chapels, while soaking in the spiritual atmosphere of this sacred site.

After visiting Bethany, head to the Dead Sea, the lowest point on Earth and a truly unique natural wonder. Its mineral-rich waters allow you to effortlessly float, and the therapeutic mud is famous for its skin benefits. The surrounding landscape, with its dramatic cliffs and serene salt formations, offers unforgettable views and photo opportunities.

Petra, often called the “Rose-Red City,” is one of the world’s most iconic archaeological sites and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Carved directly into the rose-colored cliffs, this ancient Nabatean city dates back over 2,000 years and showcases stunning tombs, temples, and theaters.

The most famous sight is the Treasury (Al-Khazneh), revealed dramatically after walking through the narrow Siq, a winding gorge flanked by towering rock walls. Beyond the Treasury, you can explore the Monastery (Ad-Deir), the Royal Tombs, and countless other carved wonders.

You’ve already experienced some of Jordan’s most epic sights, but the adventure is far from over. Next, you’ll head to what is often called the world’s most beautiful desert - Wadi Rum. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is home to the Bedouins and a labyrinth of massive rock formations and red sand dunes.

We recommend bringing something for lunch, as shops are not guaranteed during the day. At the camp, you can arrange an optional guided afternoon tour of the desert. Your host will provide dinner and breakfast, and at night, you’ll be treated to a magical sky full of stars.

After your unforgettable desert adventure in Wadi Rum, it’s time to head back to civilization and make your way to Amman. Afternoon - Explore Amman

In the afternoon, discover the lively heart of the capital. Stroll along Rainbow Street, known for its cafés, shops, and vibrant atmosphere. Visit the impressive Roman Theatre, one of the city’s most important ancient landmarks, and step inside the beautiful Grand Hussein Mosque, a symbol of Jordan’s cultural and religious heritage.

Before departing, there’s still time to explore a few highlights of Amman. Visit Darat al Funun, a leading arts center showcasing contemporary Arab art in a beautiful historic setting. Then, stop by the Gold Market (Souk Al-Dhahab) to browse traditional jewelry and souvenirs. Finally, head up to the Amman Citadel, an ancient hilltop site offering panoramic views of the city and significant historical ruins.
