Welcome to Namibia! After arriving in Windhoek, you'll pick up your rental car and head out on one of the most beautiful road trips in the world. You'll get your first taste of Namibian roads, a breathtaking drive through Spreetshoogte Pass, and your first glimpses of the endless Namib Desert. You'll end the day at a peaceful lodge in the heart of the African wilderness, where you can relax after your journey and, with a bit of luck, spot your first wildlife at the local waterhole. Today's itinerary depends on your arrival time.

One of the absolute highlights of the trip. Set off before sunrise to catch the golden hour among the iconic Sossusvlei dunes. You'll visit the legendary Deadvlei with its ancient acacia trees, climb the majestic Big Daddy or Dune 45, and end the day with a walk through the narrow Sesriem Canyon. In the afternoon, you'll head towards Swakopmund, enjoying more stunning scenery and a few interesting stops along the way.

After a demanding day in the desert and a long journey, a pleasant change awaits you today. Swakopmund is a city with a unique atmosphere where German colonial architecture meets the wild Atlantic coast. Take a stroll through the historical center, have a delicious lunch, walk along the beach, and enjoy a more relaxed pace. In the afternoon, I recommend heading to nearby Walvis Bay, where you can watch flamingos and stop by the iconic pink salt pans.

If you're craving one of Namibia's most iconic experiences, you can head out on an organized trip to Sandwich Harbour, where massive dunes meet the Atlantic Ocean. I highly recommend this trip, but if you'd rather just relax on the beach, you can do that too. Today is all yours.

The guides know exactly where to go and what you shouldn't miss (plus, it's a great way to support the locals). Set off for Spitzkoppe first thing in the morning to soak up the unique vibe. Wake up early for the sunrise, when the first rays light up the granite peaks in golden and orange hues. Then, head towards Etosha National Park. In this itinerary, you'll be staying in Tsumeb, which is just a short drive from the eastern gate of Etosha. This way, you'll have time for your first late-afternoon safari while enjoying more comfortable and budget-friendly accommodation than staying inside the national park itself. 

Today is the highlight of your entire trip – a full-day self-drive safari in one of Africa's best national parks. Head out as soon as the Von Lindequist Gate opens and make your way through the southern part of the park via Namutoni - Halali - Okaukuejo. Having your own car means you can set your own pace, stop at individual waterholes, and stay as long as you like. Even though Etosha looks huge on the map, with an early start, you can comfortably drive through the entire southern section of the park to Okaukuejo and return to Tsumeb before the gates close. It’s not a race. The best safari experiences happen when you stop and wait patiently. It’s up to you whether you want to cover the whole south or spend more time in a smaller area.

Your road trip is slowly coming to an end. On the way back to Windhoek, you can stop by the Cheetah Conservation Fund to learn more about protecting the world's fastest cat. In the evening, enjoy your final moments in Namibia with a good dinner and toast to a journey filled with deserts, safaris, and breathtaking sunsets.

Spend your last day exploring the capital of Namibia—this time on foot. Windhoek may be a small city, but it offers several interesting sights that reflect both the country's German colonial history and its modern development. Stroll through the center, grab a final Namibian coffee, and return your rental car at the airport before your flight. Feel free to adjust the schedule based on your departure time.
