To the center, you can take the Bybanen light rail from Bergen Airport, the journey takes about 45 minutes and currently costs 51 NOK, children are free. It goes in the direction of Byparken.

Flam is a small picturesque village at the end of one of the most beautiful fjords in Norway. It is quite busy in the summer and offers plenty of sports activities that you can try. Settle in and go explore the surrounding area.

If you fancy an afternoon activity, let yourself be rocked on a sea kayak on a short trip organized from the beach in Flam. I recommend wool clothing for your comfort in the kayak (wet cotton is cold, wool is warm even when wet), but otherwise everyone can handle it. More info here - according to the current listed times, you can take a ride on the fjord in the afternoon, or in the morning another day.

Brekkefossen

Run to the waterfall, you will have a great view of Flam and the fjord. It is about an hour from the center of Flam to the waterfall, half of it is on a flat asphalt road, then it goes steeply uphill. The path is clearly marked, so you won't get lost.

Today, the famous Rallarvegen awaits you. First, you'll take a train to Finse on the plateau (1222 m above sea level), then you'll cycle the same route back to Flåm by the sea. The cycle route is 55 km long and not very challenging, but you'll definitely spend a lot of time stopping for photos.

You have a long day ahead, so take the first train from Flam to Myrdal, then change at Myrdal to the train to Finse (towards Oslo S). The journey will take about an hour and a half in total. Find the train departure time on vy.no and buy a ticket right away. The train from Flam to Myrdal is often sold out in season - it's the famous Flamsbana!

Get off at the station in the middle of the plateau. Enjoy the view of Lake Finsevatnet and the Hardangerjøkulen glacier. You can take advantage of the refreshment options, as there will be nothing available along the way - the next one is at the Vatnahalsen hotel.

Pick up your bike at the rental shop, you can book it here or here. Be sure to book your bike in advance! Check when you have to return the bike in Flam at the station.

Flåm Zipline

Embark on the second part of the cycling route. The initial section of the Vatnahalsen - Kardal route consists of relatively steep switchbacks, which are safer to walk down while leading the bike. If you want to spice up the journey a bit, you can choose an alternative to Kardal - take a zip line; your bike will also be transported for free. It is the longest zip line in Scandinavia, with a total length of 1381 m. It starts at the Vatnahalsen Hotel and ends down in the valley in Kårdal. More info here.

In Kardal, get on your bike and you can ride down along the river to Flam. Here, you might occasionally encounter a car, and the road is busier, so be extra careful. Watch out for the Flamsbana train going up towards Myrdal. Seeing this old train winding through the valley is quite an experience.

Stegastein- LOOKOUT

The iconic Stegastein viewpoint is 3 km uphill, and it will take you about 2 hours to get there. 

If you want to extend it into a challenging full-day trip, you can continue to the highest point in the area, Mount Prest (1478 m). It is 7.5 km from the sea and about 5 hours walk to the top. 

The advantage is that Stegastein is very popular and can be easily reached by car, whereas Prest is mostly visited by locals and offers even more beautiful views of the fjord than Stegastein.

Alternatively, you can skip the steep climb to Stegastein and book a bus to the parking lot below Prest directly from Flam. More info here. From the parking lot, it is approximately 2 hours back up to Prest.

Watch waterfalls, mountain peaks and dwellings that are scattered around the hills and can only be reached by sea. Viking Valley

In Gudvangen, you can visit the Viking Valley, which isn't exactly a museum, but rather a private initiative by several enthusiasts who have strived to build a replica of a Viking settlement and demonstrate how people lived in early medieval Scandinavia. In the afternoon, you'll arrive in Voss, the adrenaline sports center of western Norway. Take a walk around the center; at the end of Vangsgata, there's a relatively inexpensive outlet with Norwegian sports brands. The library on the shore of the lake is also a lovely place to sit, with a huge glass wall offering beautiful views of the water and the surrounding mountains. If you don't want to take the gondola to Hanguren the next day, you can go this evening – on some days in the summer, it runs until 9:30 PM.

If you just want to take a regular hike, take the gondola up to Hangurstoppen and head to Lonahorgi.

There's a cable car going to the hill above the city, but you can also easily walk up in about an hour. You'll enjoy a beautiful view of Bergen, but also wander among the white wooden houses, which is personally my favorite part of Bergen.

Fantoft Stave Church

If you want to make a stop on the way to the airport, I recommend this wooden church, one of the famous stave churches with dragon heads. However, this is just a replica; the original was burned down in 1992 by members of a Norwegian metal band. It's quite a walk to the church from the Bybanen Fantoft stop, so consider the stop if you have a heavy suitcase.

If you fancy an afternoon activity, let yourself be rocked on a sea kayak on a short trip organized from the beach in Flam. I recommend wool clothing for your comfort in the kayak (wet cotton is cold, wool is warm even when wet), but otherwise everyone can handle it. Brekkefossen

Run to the waterfall, you will have a great view of Flam and the fjord. It is about an hour from the center of Flam to the waterfall, half of it is on a flat asphalt road, then it goes steeply uphill. The path is clearly marked, so you won't get lost.

You have a long day ahead, so take the first train from Flam to Myrdal, then change at Myrdal to the train to Finse (towards Oslo S). The journey will take about an hour and a half in total. Find the train departure time on vy.no and buy a ticket right away. The train from Flam to Myrdal is often sold out in season - it's the famous Flamsbana!

Get off at the station in the middle of the plateau. Enjoy the view of Lake Finsevatnet and the Hardangerjøkulen glacier. You can take advantage of the refreshment options, as there will be nothing available along the way - the next one is at the Vatnahalsen hotel.

Flåm Zipline

Embark on the second part of the cycling route. The initial section of the Vatnahalsen - Kardal route consists of relatively steep switchbacks, which are safer to walk down while leading the bike. If you want to spice up the journey a bit, you can choose an alternative to Kardal - take a zip line; your bike will also be transported for free. It is the longest zip line in Scandinavia, with a total length of 1381 m. It starts at the Vatnahalsen Hotel and ends down in the valley in Kårdal. More info here.

In Kardal, get on your bike and you can ride down along the river to Flam. Here, you might occasionally encounter a car, and the road is busier, so be extra careful. Watch out for the Flamsbana train going up towards Myrdal. Seeing this old train winding through the valley is quite an experience.

Stegastein- LOOKOUT

The iconic Stegastein viewpoint is 3 km uphill, and it will take you about 2 hours to get there. 

If you want to extend it into a challenging full-day trip, you can continue to the highest point in the area, Mount Prest (1478 m). It is 7.5 km from the sea and about 5 hours walk to the top. 

The advantage is that Stegastein is very popular and can be easily reached by car, whereas Prest is mostly visited by locals and offers even more beautiful views of the fjord than Stegastein.

Alternatively, you can skip the steep climb to Stegastein and book a bus to the parking lot below Prest directly from Flam. More info here. From the parking lot, it is approximately 2 hours back up to Prest.

Viking Valley

In Gudvangen, you can visit the Viking Valley, which isn't exactly a museum, but rather a private initiative by several enthusiasts who have strived to build a replica of a Viking settlement and demonstrate how people lived in early medieval Scandinavia. In the afternoon, you'll arrive in Voss, the adrenaline sports center of western Norway. Take a walk around the center; at the end of Vangsgata, there's a relatively inexpensive outlet with Norwegian sports brands. The library on the shore of the lake is also a lovely place to sit, with a huge glass wall offering beautiful views of the water and the surrounding mountains. If you don't want to take the gondola to Hanguren the next day, you can go this evening – on some days in the summer, it runs until 9:30 PM.

There's a cable car going to the hill above the city, but you can also easily walk up in about an hour. You'll enjoy a beautiful view of Bergen, but also wander among the white wooden houses, which is personally my favorite part of Bergen.

From Fløyen, head back to the center and walk across the square (pedestrian zone with shops) to the red Protestant church on the hill. Next to it is the modern library and the University of Bergen. Stroll through the alleys around, for example, in the area of Sydneskleiven, there are charming colorful houses.

Fantoft Stave Church

If you want to make a stop on the way to the airport, I recommend this wooden church, one of the famous stave churches with dragon heads. However, this is just a replica; the original was burned down in 1992 by members of a Norwegian metal band. It's quite a walk to the church from the Bybanen Fantoft stop, so consider the stop if you have a heavy suitcase.

If you fancy an afternoon activity, let yourself be rocked on a sea kayak on a short trip organized from the beach in Flam. I recommend wool clothing for your comfort in the kayak (wet cotton is cold, wool is warm even when wet), but otherwise everyone can handle it. More info here - according to the current listed times, you can take a ride on the fjord in the afternoon, or in the morning another day.

Brekkefossen

Run to the waterfall, you will have a great view of Flam and the fjord. It is about an hour from the center of Flam to the waterfall, half of it is on a flat asphalt road, then it goes steeply uphill. The path is clearly marked, so you won't get lost.

Today, the famous Rallarvegen awaits you. First, you'll take a train to Finse on the plateau (1222 m above sea level), then you'll cycle the same route back to Flåm by the sea. The cycle route is 55 km long and not very challenging, but you'll definitely spend a lot of time stopping for photos.

You have a long day ahead, so take the first train from Flam to Myrdal, then change at Myrdal to the train to Finse (towards Oslo S). The journey will take about an hour and a half in total. Find the train departure time on vy.no and buy a ticket right away. The train from Flam to Myrdal is often sold out in season - it's the famous Flamsbana!

Get off at the station in the middle of the plateau. Enjoy the view of Lake Finsevatnet and the Hardangerjøkulen glacier. You can take advantage of the refreshment options, as there will be nothing available along the way - the next one is at the Vatnahalsen hotel.

Pick up your bike at the rental shop, you can book it here or here. Be sure to book your bike in advance! Check when you have to return the bike in Flam at the station.

Flåm Zipline

Embark on the second part of the cycling route. The initial section of the Vatnahalsen - Kardal route consists of relatively steep switchbacks, which are safer to walk down while leading the bike. If you want to spice up the journey a bit, you can choose an alternative to Kardal - take a zip line; your bike will also be transported for free. It is the longest zip line in Scandinavia, with a total length of 1381 m. It starts at the Vatnahalsen Hotel and ends down in the valley in Kårdal. More info here.

In Kardal, get on your bike and you can ride down along the river to Flam. Here, you might occasionally encounter a car, and the road is busier, so be extra careful. Watch out for the Flamsbana train going up towards Myrdal. Seeing this old train winding through the valley is quite an experience.

Stegastein- LOOKOUT

The iconic Stegastein viewpoint is 3 km uphill, and it will take you about 2 hours to get there. 

If you want to extend it into a challenging full-day trip, you can continue to the highest point in the area, Mount Prest (1478 m). It is 7.5 km from the sea and about 5 hours walk to the top. 

The advantage is that Stegastein is very popular and can be easily reached by car, whereas Prest is mostly visited by locals and offers even more beautiful views of the fjord than Stegastein.

Alternatively, you can skip the steep climb to Stegastein and book a bus to the parking lot below Prest directly from Flam. More info here. From the parking lot, it is approximately 2 hours back up to Prest.

Sightseeing cruise on the most beautiful Norwegian fjord, which has been inscribed on the UNESCO list. Watch waterfalls, mountain peaks and dwellings that are scattered around the hills and can only be reached by sea. You will definitely be accompanied by seagulls and other birds, but you may also be lucky enough to see seals or dolphins.

Viking Valley

In Gudvangen, you can visit the Viking Valley, which isn't exactly a museum, but rather a private initiative by several enthusiasts who have strived to build a replica of a Viking settlement and demonstrate how people lived in early medieval Scandinavia. In the afternoon, you'll arrive in Voss, the adrenaline sports center of western Norway. Take a walk around the center; at the end of Vangsgata, there's a relatively inexpensive outlet with Norwegian sports brands. The library on the shore of the lake is also a lovely place to sit, with a huge glass wall offering beautiful views of the water and the surrounding mountains. If you don't want to take the gondola to Hanguren the next day, you can go this evening – on some days in the summer, it runs until 9:30 PM.

If you just want to take a regular hike, take the gondola up to Hangurstoppen and head to Lonahorgi.

Håkonshallen - Bymuseet i Bergen

Remnants of a medieval castle, today it is the reconstructed Hakonshallen - the hall of King Hakon. There's not much else inside, so if you're not a complete history buff, the entrance fee is not worth it.

Fantoft Stave Church

If you want to make a stop on the way to the airport, I recommend this wooden church, one of the famous stave churches with dragon heads. However, this is just a replica; the original was burned down in 1992 by members of a Norwegian metal band. It's quite a walk to the church from the Bybanen Fantoft stop, so consider the stop if you have a heavy suitcase.

If you fancy an afternoon activity, let yourself be rocked on a sea kayak on a short trip organized from the beach in Flam. I recommend wool clothing for your comfort in the kayak (wet cotton is cold, wool is warm even when wet), but otherwise everyone can handle it. Brekkefossen

Run to the waterfall, you will have a great view of Flam and the fjord. It is about an hour from the center of Flam to the waterfall, half of it is on a flat asphalt road, then it goes steeply uphill. The path is clearly marked, so you won't get lost.

You have a long day ahead, so take the first train from Flam to Myrdal, then change at Myrdal to the train to Finse (towards Oslo S). The journey will take about an hour and a half in total. Find the train departure time on vy.no and buy a ticket right away. The train from Flam to Myrdal is often sold out in season - it's the famous Flamsbana!

Get off at the station in the middle of the plateau. Enjoy the view of Lake Finsevatnet and the Hardangerjøkulen glacier. You can take advantage of the refreshment options, as there will be nothing available along the way - the next one is at the Vatnahalsen hotel.

Pick up your bike at the rental shop, you can book it here or here. Be sure to book your bike in advance! Check when you have to return the bike in Flam at the station.

Flåm Zipline

Embark on the second part of the cycling route. The initial section of the Vatnahalsen - Kardal route consists of relatively steep switchbacks, which are safer to walk down while leading the bike. If you want to spice up the journey a bit, you can choose an alternative to Kardal - take a zip line; your bike will also be transported for free. It is the longest zip line in Scandinavia, with a total length of 1381 m. It starts at the Vatnahalsen Hotel and ends down in the valley in Kårdal. More info here.

In Kardal, get on your bike and you can ride down along the river to Flam. Here, you might occasionally encounter a car, and the road is busier, so be extra careful. Watch out for the Flamsbana train going up towards Myrdal. Seeing this old train winding through the valley is quite an experience.

Stegastein- LOOKOUT

The iconic Stegastein viewpoint is 3 km uphill, and it will take you about 2 hours to get there. 

If you want to extend it into a challenging full-day trip, you can continue to the highest point in the area, Mount Prest (1478 m). It is 7.5 km from the sea and about 5 hours walk to the top. 

The advantage is that Stegastein is very popular and can be easily reached by car, whereas Prest is mostly visited by locals and offers even more beautiful views of the fjord than Stegastein.

Alternatively, you can skip the steep climb to Stegastein and book a bus to the parking lot below Prest directly from Flam. More info here. From the parking lot, it is approximately 2 hours back up to Prest.

Viking Valley

In Gudvangen, you can visit the Viking Valley, which isn't exactly a museum, but rather a private initiative by several enthusiasts who have strived to build a replica of a Viking settlement and demonstrate how people lived in early medieval Scandinavia. In the afternoon, you'll arrive in Voss, the adrenaline sports center of western Norway. Take a walk around the center; at the end of Vangsgata, there's a relatively inexpensive outlet with Norwegian sports brands. The library on the shore of the lake is also a lovely place to sit, with a huge glass wall offering beautiful views of the water and the surrounding mountains. If you don't want to take the gondola to Hanguren the next day, you can go this evening – on some days in the summer, it runs until 9:30 PM.

Voss Gondol

If you just want to take a regular hike, take the gondola up to Hangurstoppen and head to Lonahorgi.

You can also hike up Hanguren. In that case, you'll pass by the Voss Folkemuseum open-air museum, where you should definitely stop.

Håkonshallen - Bymuseet i Bergen

Remnants of a medieval castle, today it is the reconstructed Hakonshallen - the hall of King Hakon. There's not much else inside, so if you're not a complete history buff, the entrance fee is not worth it.

Fløyen

There's a cable car going to the hill above the city, but you can also easily walk up in about an hour. You'll enjoy a beautiful view of Bergen, but also wander among the white wooden houses, which is personally my favorite part of Bergen.

From Fløyen, head back to the center and walk across the square (pedestrian zone with shops) to the red Protestant church on the hill. Next to it is the modern library and the University of Bergen. Stroll through the alleys around, for example, in the area of Sydneskleiven, there are charming colorful houses.

Fantoft Stave Church

If you want to make a stop on the way to the airport, I recommend this wooden church, one of the famous stave churches with dragon heads. However, this is just a replica; the original was burned down in 1992 by members of a Norwegian metal band. It's quite a walk to the church from the Bybanen Fantoft stop, so consider the stop if you have a heavy suitcase.
