You'll experience life-size dinosaurs, walk through the Cave of Evolution, and visit the Mammoth Museum. Today, relax on the endless beach of Epanomi, where crystal-clear waters and panoramic views of majestic Mount Olympus await you. If you enjoy exploring the underwater world, don't miss the shipwreck near the coast – an ideal spot for snorkeling!
The asphalt road ends at the Potamos bus stop, where there is also a large parking lot. You can park your car there and go to the beach from this point, or walk along the beach to the cape.
Further towards Cape Epanomi, a sandy but relatively solid road continues (you need to drive slowly and watch out for holes). Park near the small chapel, but be careful to stay on the paved surface with your car and not get stuck in the sand.
At the end, Epanomi beach forms a kind of horn from which you can enjoy a wonderful view of the Olympus Mountains. If a sailboat happens to be sailing around and the sun is setting, you have a picture for Instagram like it was embroidered.
Epanomi beach is long, and in October we met about 20 people here, so we had absolute privacy. But there is no shade here, and in October there were no facilities in the form of toilets or restaurants.
The water is crystal clear and was quite pleasant for swimming even at the end of October.
Near the cape is the wreck of a shipwreck - if you are a fan of snorkeling and discovering life under the sea, you must not miss this.

And if you want to go for a hike, head to Lake Mavrobara, where you will find water turtles and perhaps a magical sunset among the olive trees.
Pefkochori is a resort in the south of the Kassandra peninsula and a pleasant place if you want to go for a coffee, lunch or just stroll around the shops. In October there wasn't much tourist infrastructure here, but you'll get a more authentic impression as you walk around. Parking was free along the main street in the off-season. If you need to drive somewhere with a stroller for a while, we recommend the promenade around the sea.
Do you have older children? If they need to let off steam on some water attractions, you'll appreciate a visit to Crazyland Water Park in Pefkochori. The water park is suitable for children from 6 years old. Check their website for current opening hours and prices.
I chose this beach as the best-rated in the area, and you definitely won't be disappointed. Paliouri beach is a sandy beach and is located in a beautiful bay. Whether you're digging in the sand on the beach or diving into the waves, you'll always have a monumental panorama of Mount Athos, which rises up on the third peninsula, before your eyes. There is easy access to the beach by car and a large car park. In season, there are restaurants and bars, but everything was closed in October.
Want to go on a trip to nature as well? We recommend a walk to Mavrobara Lake (Turtle Lake), where you will find water turtles. But if you get lost like we did, don't despair, because you might instead enjoy a beautiful sunset in an olive grove overlooking Mount Athos, which will be your companion for the next few days.
The route to the lake is well described here. It leads uphill from the parking lot to the lake and should take you about 1 hour. It is not entirely suitable for strollers.
In the morning, you'll enjoy the authentic atmosphere of the fishing harbor in Neos Marmaras, where you can watch the fishing boats come in and enjoy a coffee overlooking the bay. After lunch, head to the wild beaches of southern Sithonia – Tigania Beach will captivate you with its remoteness, while Kriaritsi Beach offers dramatic waves and panoramic views of Mount Athos. End the day with a visit to the tranquil village of Porto Koufo, with its picturesque beach hidden in a bay and excellent taverns by the harbor.
Use the morning to explore the town of Neos Marmaras. Go early in the morning to see the small harbor, where boats have just arrived with fresh catch, fishermen hang clothes on lines and clean fish, greedy cats run around trying to catch something. Buy coffee and breakfast on the way and enjoy it on a bench above the harbor with a beautiful view of the bay. The town has a church, a pharmacy, a few bars, cafes and restaurants, and we also saw (fortunately did not use) an English-speaking pediatrician's office.
Out of season, you can park in the parking lots right down by the sea, in season use one of the larger parking lots right by the main road, the center to the sea is a 5-minute walk down the hill. Parking is free.
In Neos Marmaras (near the football field) there is also a nice, long beach if you would like to stay here.
Near the beach is a pleasant restaurant Kiani akti - great mousaka and seafood pasta, white chairs and blue tablecloth, sea view.

Be sure to enter Tigania Beach into your navigation - when you turn off the main road, you'll first come to a stretch of sandy but firm road, which turns into asphalt after a few hundred meters. Then you'll find yourself in a strange maze of asphalt roads that lead nowhere, but the way to the beach is marked with arrows painted on the road.
We mainly enjoyed the beautiful view from above; the path to the beach was too steep for us, which may not be a complication for you.
If the wind at Tigania Beach feels too strong, move to Kriaritsi Beach, which is a bit more sheltered in the bay. The beach is wild, with waves, stray (but easy-going) dogs, and almost no infrastructure (in October) or shade. You'll have Mount Athos right in front of you, and you'll wonder again where it suddenly appeared in this landscape of small hills.
Again, enter this beach into your navigation so you don't get lost in the maze of asphalt roads (like one Greek couple we met along the way who may still be wandering there). Parking is free right by the beach.

If you happen to be staying on October 28th, that means two things - the shops will be closed and you will be part of the Ochi Day celebrations. The holiday commemorates the day (October 28, 1940) when Greek Prime Minister Ioannis Metaxas answered Mussolini's ultimatum with Ochi (No).
As the locals told us, the celebrations in Thessaloniki are truly impressive, including a large military parade. But you can also enjoy them in a small town like Neos Marmaras, where everyone from the near and far surroundings comes, children go to the parade, adults greet and hug each other, sitting in all the cafes, where bottles for toasts are already prepared on the table. You will be surprised how a sleepy town suddenly comes to life and the locals will draw you into their merriment.
If you would like to take away some quality local product, we can recommend a small shop in Neos Marmaras near the harbor - the owner can talk about olive oil for a really long time :-)

We discovered this beach completely by chance and must recommend it to you as the most beautiful one we've been to (and we certainly haven't seen everything!).
You'll find the beach at the end of the road where there's an inconspicuous hotel resort. Park along the road. Directly on the beach, there's a shower (not working in October), also a tall tree that provides shade. Refreshments are possibly available in the resort - we brought gyros from Neos Marmaras.
Would you also like a tip for a beach where you can enjoy a beautiful sunset? Then Lagomadra Beach is the place! A beautiful, long beach with a view of the neighboring Kassandra peninsula. Park in the pine grove, which provides shade during the day if needed. The place is also popular among camper van owners.

After returning, enjoy a walk through the picturesque town of Ouranoupoli and taste local specialties. During the season, you can choose from a combination of different boat trips - some depart directly from Sithonia, we recommend exploring the internet or local travel agencies and choosing the option that suits you best. At the end of October, we only came across one cruise and it departed from Ouranoupoli at 10:30 - it was operated by Athos Sea Cruises. It takes 3 hours in total, during the cruise to Mount Athos they play commentary in about 5 languages on the boat, the return journey is without it.
Don't forget to pack a jacket and hat on the boat - it was quite windy. We didn't take a stroller on the boat, but it wouldn't be a problem. There was even a larger area with a mattress to sit on where two babies were playing on their stomachs.
Arrive in Ouranoupoli well in advance, even at the end of October we found it difficult to find a parking space (even the paid parking lots were full). We didn't expect that and barely made the boat.
Ouranoupoli is a nice place for a walk or lunch. Along the main road there are many shops with souvenirs, icons and products made directly by monks in the monasteries on Athos.
On this cruise, you'll feel like you're in the Da Vinci Code! The monastic state of Athos (Agion Oros - Holy Mountain) has a very mystical atmosphere; only males (and animals) are allowed to enter, and you need a special permit to enter, which takes six months to process. There are several monasteries on the peninsula clinging to the rock like birds' nests, many of which hide ancient Byzantine treasures such as manuscripts and icons.
According to current laws, the ship must stay at least 500 m from the coast, but you will still see the monasteries relatively closely.
And on the way back, you might see dolphins.
On the way back, stop at Trypiti beach. You can park comfortably by the road, the beach is beautiful with clear water. In the summer, there is an open bar with umbrellas and sunbeds, and there is a volleyball court next to it.
You will enjoy a beautiful sunset and a view of Ouranopoli and Mount Athos.
Today will also be a bit about education - first you will visit Aristotle's Park, where you will learn something about how the inventions that Aristotle helped develop work. You will walk to a small waterfall and in the town of Olympiada you will visit the archaeological site, the birthplace of Aristotle. You will end the day on one of the quiet beaches of eastern Halkidiki.

The birthplace of Aristotle, at the southern end of the town of Olympiada, you will find an archaeological site that is free. An ideal place to get acquainted with a bit of history!
Olympiada is a pleasant town that offers various kinds of refreshments - have lunch here, or take it to the beach with you, the beaches around Olympiada are often without infrastructure.
A sandy beach with a gentle entry into the water will be ideal for smaller children as well. You can spend the rest of the day here!
Use this day to buy quality olive oil, wine, or other souvenirs, or to visit Thessaloniki and the nearby water park. Then just return the car and wait for your flight home.
Tip for a trip with kids: Need to cool off somewhere before your flight? Kids can have a blast at Waterland aquapark in Thessaloniki! The largest aquapark in Greece offers plenty of attractions for both young and old and is located in Thessaloniki near the airport. Open from June 1st to September 30th, but I recommend checking the current opening hours here.
Now just hand over the car and wave goodbye to Halkidiki! Don't forget to be at the airport at least 2/3 hours before departure.

The largest aquapark in Greece offers plenty of attractions for both young and old and is located in Thessaloniki near the airport. Open from June 1st to September 30th, but I recommend checking the current opening hours here.
Now just hand over the car and wave goodbye to Halkidiki! Don't forget to be at the airport at least 2/3 hours before departure.

Dedicate today to arriving at your destination. Pick up your car at the airport, and if you have time, you can go for a tour of Thessaloniki or visit the largest dinosaur park in Europe.

You'll experience life-size dinosaurs, walk through the Cave of Evolution, and visit the Mammoth Museum. Today, relax on the endless beach of Epanomi, where crystal-clear waters and panoramic views of majestic Mount Olympus await you. If you enjoy exploring the underwater world, don't miss the shipwreck near the coast – an ideal spot for snorkeling!
The asphalt road ends at the Potamos bus stop, where there is also a large parking lot. You can park your car there and go to the beach from this point, or walk along the beach to the cape.
Further towards Cape Epanomi, a sandy but relatively solid road continues (you need to drive slowly and watch out for holes). Park near the small chapel, but be careful to stay on the paved surface with your car and not get stuck in the sand.
At the end, Epanomi beach forms a kind of horn from which you can enjoy a wonderful view of the Olympus Mountains. If a sailboat happens to be sailing around and the sun is setting, you have a picture for Instagram like it was embroidered.
Epanomi beach is long, and in October we met about 20 people here, so we had absolute privacy. But there is no shade here, and in October there were no facilities in the form of toilets or restaurants.
The water is crystal clear and was quite pleasant for swimming even at the end of October.
Near the cape is the wreck of a shipwreck - if you are a fan of snorkeling and discovering life under the sea, you must not miss this.
You will stroll through the picturesque resort of Pefkochori, where you can enjoy a coffee by the sea or visit local shops. In the afternoon, Paliouri Beach awaits you - one of the most beautiful beaches on the peninsula with fine sand, turquoise water and a view of Mount Athos. Traveling with children? They will be thrilled by Crazyland Water Park full of water attractions. And if you want to go for a hike, head to Lake Mavrobara, where you will find water turtles and perhaps a magical sunset among the olive trees.
Pefkochori is a resort in the south of the Kassandra peninsula and a pleasant place if you want to go for a coffee, lunch or just stroll around the shops. In October there wasn't much tourist infrastructure here, but you'll get a more authentic impression as you walk around. Parking was free along the main street in the off-season. If you need to drive somewhere with a stroller for a while, we recommend the promenade around the sea.
Do you have older children? If they need to let off steam on some water attractions, you'll appreciate a visit to Crazyland Water Park in Pefkochori. The water park is suitable for children from 6 years old. Check their website for current opening hours and prices.
I chose this beach as the best-rated in the area, and you definitely won't be disappointed. Paliouri beach is a sandy beach and is located in a beautiful bay. Whether you're digging in the sand on the beach or diving into the waves, you'll always have a monumental panorama of Mount Athos, which rises up on the third peninsula, before your eyes. There is easy access to the beach by car and a large car park. In season, there are restaurants and bars, but everything was closed in October.
Want to go on a trip to nature as well? We recommend a walk to Mavrobara Lake (Turtle Lake), where you will find water turtles. But if you get lost like we did, don't despair, because you might instead enjoy a beautiful sunset in an olive grove overlooking Mount Athos, which will be your companion for the next few days.
The route to the lake is well described here. It leads uphill from the parking lot to the lake and should take you about 1 hour. It is not entirely suitable for strollers.
In the morning, you'll enjoy the authentic atmosphere of the fishing harbor in Neos Marmaras, where you can watch the fishing boats come in and enjoy a coffee overlooking the bay. After lunch, head to the wild beaches of southern Sithonia – Tigania Beach will captivate you with its remoteness, while Kriaritsi Beach offers dramatic waves and panoramic views of Mount Athos. End the day with a visit to the tranquil village of Porto Koufo, with its picturesque beach hidden in a bay and excellent taverns by the harbor.
Use the morning to explore the town of Neos Marmaras. Go early in the morning to see the small harbor, where boats have just arrived with fresh catch, fishermen hang clothes on lines and clean fish, greedy cats run around trying to catch something. Buy coffee and breakfast on the way and enjoy it on a bench above the harbor with a beautiful view of the bay. The town has a church, a pharmacy, a few bars, cafes and restaurants, and we also saw (fortunately did not use) an English-speaking pediatrician's office.
Out of season, you can park in the parking lots right down by the sea, in season use one of the larger parking lots right by the main road, the center to the sea is a 5-minute walk down the hill. Parking is free.
In Neos Marmaras (near the football field) there is also a nice, long beach if you would like to stay here.
Near the beach is a pleasant restaurant Kiani akti - great mousaka and seafood pasta, white chairs and blue tablecloth, sea view.
After lunch, you'll explore the southern part of the Sithonia peninsula. First, you'll head to the wild beaches near the town of Kalamitsi. Don't forget to enjoy the beautiful views of the surrounding landscape along the way and watch out for a herd of goats crossing your path.
Be sure to enter Tigania Beach into your navigation - when you turn off the main road, you'll first come to a stretch of sandy but firm road, which turns into asphalt after a few hundred meters. Then you'll find yourself in a strange maze of asphalt roads that lead nowhere, but the way to the beach is marked with arrows painted on the road.
We mainly enjoyed the beautiful view from above; the path to the beach was too steep for us, which may not be a complication for you.
If the wind at Tigania Beach feels too strong, move to Kriaritsi Beach, which is a bit more sheltered in the bay. The beach is wild, with waves, stray (but easy-going) dogs, and almost no infrastructure (in October) or shade. You'll have Mount Athos right in front of you, and you'll wonder again where it suddenly appeared in this landscape of small hills.
Again, enter this beach into your navigation so you don't get lost in the maze of asphalt roads (like one Greek couple we met along the way who may still be wandering there). Parking is free right by the beach.

Neos Marmaras is a popular resort on the Sithonia peninsula in Halkidiki, Greece. It offers beautiful beaches with clear water, green hills and a pleasant promenade full of taverns and cafes. Many beaches have a gentle entry into the sea, making the place suitable for families with children. At the same time, you will find quieter areas and a livelier part for evening walks.
If you happen to be staying on October 28th, that means two things - the shops will be closed and you will be part of the Ochi Day celebrations. The holiday commemorates the day (October 28, 1940) when Greek Prime Minister Ioannis Metaxas answered Mussolini's ultimatum with Ochi (No).
As the locals told us, the celebrations in Thessaloniki are truly impressive, including a large military parade. But you can also enjoy them in a small town like Neos Marmaras, where everyone from the near and far surroundings comes, children go to the parade, adults greet and hug each other, sitting in all the cafes, where bottles for toasts are already prepared on the table. You will be surprised how a sleepy town suddenly comes to life and the locals will draw you into their merriment.
If you would like to take away some quality local product, we can recommend a small shop in Neos Marmaras near the harbor - the owner can talk about olive oil for a really long time :-)
After a somewhat busy morning in town, you'll surely want to relax somewhere quiet - Azapiko Beach will be just the thing for you.
We discovered this beach completely by chance and must recommend it to you as the most beautiful one we've been to (and we certainly haven't seen everything!).
You'll find the beach at the end of the road where there's an inconspicuous hotel resort. Park along the road. Directly on the beach, there's a shower (not working in October), also a tall tree that provides shade. Refreshments are possibly available in the resort - we brought gyros from Neos Marmaras.
Would you also like a tip for a beach where you can enjoy a beautiful sunset? Then Lagomadra Beach is the place! A beautiful, long beach with a view of the neighboring Kassandra peninsula. Park in the pine grove, which provides shade during the day if needed. The place is also popular among camper van owners.
Embark on an unforgettable cruise around the mysterious monastic state of Athos, where majestic monasteries rise from the rocks like eagles' nests. After returning, enjoy a walk through the picturesque town of Ouranoupoli and taste local specialties. On the way back, stop at the magical Trypiti Beach, where crystal clear water and a magnificent view of the sunset and Mount Athos await you.

During the season, you can choose from a combination of different boat trips - some depart directly from Sithonia, we recommend exploring the internet or local travel agencies and choosing the option that suits you best. At the end of October, we only came across one cruise and it departed from Ouranoupoli at 10:30 - it was operated by Athos Sea Cruises. It takes 3 hours in total, during the cruise to Mount Athos they play commentary in about 5 languages on the boat, the return journey is without it.
Don't forget to pack a jacket and hat on the boat - it was quite windy. We didn't take a stroller on the boat, but it wouldn't be a problem. There was even a larger area with a mattress to sit on where two babies were playing on their stomachs.
Arrive in Ouranoupoli well in advance, even at the end of October we found it difficult to find a parking space (even the paid parking lots were full). We didn't expect that and barely made the boat.
Ouranoupoli is a nice place for a walk or lunch. Along the main road there are many shops with souvenirs, icons and products made directly by monks in the monasteries on Athos.
On this cruise, you'll feel like you're in the Da Vinci Code! The monastic state of Athos (Agion Oros - Holy Mountain) has a very mystical atmosphere; only males (and animals) are allowed to enter, and you need a special permit to enter, which takes six months to process. There are several monasteries on the peninsula clinging to the rock like birds' nests, many of which hide ancient Byzantine treasures such as manuscripts and icons.
According to current laws, the ship must stay at least 500 m from the coast, but you will still see the monasteries relatively closely.
And on the way back, you might see dolphins.
On the way back, stop at Trypiti beach. You can park comfortably by the road, the beach is beautiful with clear water. In the summer, there is an open bar with umbrellas and sunbeds, and there is a volleyball court next to it.
You will enjoy a beautiful sunset and a view of Ouranopoli and Mount Athos.
Today will also be a bit about education - first you will visit Aristotle's Park, where you will learn something about how the inventions that Aristotle helped develop work. You will walk to a small waterfall and in the town of Olympiada you will visit the archaeological site, the birthplace of Aristotle. You will end the day on one of the quiet beaches of eastern Halkidiki.

The birthplace of Aristotle, at the southern end of the town of Olympiada, you will find an archaeological site that is free. An ideal place to get acquainted with a bit of history!
Olympiada is a pleasant town that offers various kinds of refreshments - have lunch here, or take it to the beach with you, the beaches around Olympiada are often without infrastructure.
A sandy beach with a gentle entry into the water will be ideal for smaller children as well. You can spend the rest of the day here!

The birthplace of Aristotle, at the southern end of the town of Olympiada, you will find an archaeological site that is free. An ideal place to get acquainted with a bit of history!
Olympiada is a pleasant town that offers various kinds of refreshments - have lunch here, or take it to the beach with you, the beaches around Olympiada are often without infrastructure.
A sandy beach with a gentle entry into the water will be ideal for smaller children as well. You can spend the rest of the day here!
Use this day to buy quality olive oil, wine, or other souvenirs, or to visit Thessaloniki and the nearby water park. Then just return the car and wait for your flight home.
Tip for a trip with kids: Need to cool off somewhere before your flight? Kids can have a blast at Waterland aquapark in Thessaloniki! The largest aquapark in Greece offers plenty of attractions for both young and old and is located in Thessaloniki near the airport. Open from June 1st to September 30th, but I recommend checking the current opening hours here.
Now just hand over the car and wave goodbye to Halkidiki! Don't forget to be at the airport at least 2/3 hours before departure.
